Steam Winter Sale 2012 - Seriously Guys, It Was Over Two Months Ago! Move Along!

No comment on the Heist, don't own, don't want.

Portal 2 is great. All quality, fun puzzles, and awesome characters. You won't regret spending some time with that.

That being said, Deus Ex is also a strong contender. Still polished, though not as much as Portal 2. There's a lot more game to play though, and it does have that dark cyberpunk theme that is fun to get involved with.

Guess it depends what you're feeling more, but both are must haves IMO

What GWJ customs govern gifting? I've got a bunch of GWJ friends but have neither received nor sent a gift. Should I just browse friends' wishlists and spurge without provocation, or try to follow the discussion in here?

I don't know that any real customs have arisen out of the Winter Steam Sale Giftstravaganza. The whole thing rose organically out of the altruism of this community. Part of what makes GWJ so awesome.

What I do is look in my friends wishlists, look at my wish list, look at my bank account, then try to keep myself out of trouble with my CFO. It's a delicate balance, and most years, I end up wishing I could do more.

Quick, between Portal 2, Payday the Heist and Deus EX HR providing they are at the same price (lets say 5$) which one would you pick? Payday seems fun to play coop ala L4D2, Portal 2 is a must play and DXHR tickles my cyberpunk senses in a sexy way, so I'm really torn between these 3 options. This will be my last dip this sale so i've been saving it for the last days, but I'm worried payday won't be around with this discount at the end. Feel free to PM if you don't want to derail the thread. Thanks in advance!

I have DXHR, and Portal 2. Portal 2 is a must play. DXHR isn't. Haven't played Payday, so can't opine. Did I mention Portal 2 was a must play?

I voted for Sleeping Dogs because someone described it as Shenmue 3.

Really? My interest just rose exponentially. I loved the Shenmue games. Yes, even driving a forklift around.

Of the three I have only played Portal 2 (I did install DXHR this morning though!), but I second what mateo said, Portal 2 is a must play.

Thank you MrDevil909 for Awesomenauts :) I'm a LoL fanatic, so this should be right up my alley.

So I'm flying home from a long visit with the family, stagger in to my place after midnight, and what do I find, but that Growat gifted me Transformers: War For Cybertron! Thank you so much! I will be attempting to make the transforming noise with my mouth and/or whatever non-mouth body parts are necessary while playing this game.

Can't remember who told me. There's a parody out there that makes the point, but it's still an open world crime sim.

Haven't played Payday. I would say DXHR. I really enjoyed that game. In fact, I bought it during this steam sale to replay it. There is some replayablity if you are interested in trying to be stealth or going in guns blazing, or somewhere in between. It's much longer. Probably 20-30 hours if you do all the side quests. Portal 2 is also excellent, but is much shorter and felt a little forced. The gameplay was great, but it kind of felt like an unnecessary sequel. Like they were surprised at how successful Portal was and decided to expand it. I'm not saying it's not an excellent game and it's well worth $5, but I had more fun with DXHR.

I want Lucius but that's more like a $5 buy at best, not a $12.50 buy. See you next Christmas sale, Lucius.

I haven't heard of this game before, so is this Hit Man featuring a 1st grade antichrist?

Sure looks creepy from what I saw.

Thank you guys! I think I'll pass on Payday then and narrow down my choice for Portal2 or DXHR, it's a tough one for sure.

Then answer is both, definitely both. But yeah another vote against Payday, it was on a free weekend once and I got everything I needed from the game in that weekend.

I think their was a rock paper shotgun review of, and it wasn't exactly glowing. It is quite dark though from what i remember.

Also, a GB quick look:

Big thanks to RoughneckGeek and Malor for Mark of the Ninja, the latter of which was passed along to Phoenix Rev ([GWJ]Phoenix Rev for those of you keeping score *ahem*). Back stabbing ahoy!

Do the Heroes of Might and Magic games ever get a significant discount? I feel like I have been waiting a while to get Heroes VI but $20 still seems a bit high.

And big thanks to Mogg for Botanicula!

Just went up in a Flash Sale! $15 by itself, or in a franchise pack for $30.

Just saw that! And purchased. I think that will be it for me for the sale then.

Woohoo! Woke up this morning to a gift from oldmud of Botanicula! I must now pay it forward ten-fold! Or five-fold! Payday is tomorrow, maybe I shouldn't get ahead of myself

Edit: Hey oldmud, no wishlist? Really?!

Big thanks to Superbeard, who besides sponsoring the goddamn GWJ podcast gifted me Beat Hazard at some point while I was asleep.

I have so much music to get through from end of year lists and this looks perfect, thanks!

(This was also the first Steam sale gift I've ever received, so congratulations on popping my cherry there)

Thank you, DocJoe for the gift of Heroes 5!! I'd been wanting to complete my HoMM collection!!
Edit: How is it that no one has KotOR on their wishlisht?! Inconceivable!

What does everyone want to see for the next vote? I don't really have a dog in this race...

I voted the Sims 3, but in reality, I'm completely apathetic about the next vote. Oh wait, sorry, I'm not helping...

I usually just go with the most % off, but Serious Sam? I think everyone who wants that one already has it.

So is HOMM6 and the associated add-ons worth it? I've played 5 and enjoyed it. The franchise pack is whispering to me....

If anyone's interested in the new Painkiller HD remake (which is apparently pretty decent) for less than $5, Totalbiscuit posted this today. You just sign up for a free account and if you do it before the 18th, you get a 50% off code for Painkiller HD that you can use on Steam anytime. If you use it today, the deal stacks on top of the already discounted sale price and you can get Painkiller HD for $4.99. I just did it, it totally works.

Thanks for the head's up but are the games really that bad? Overall (outside of Black Edition) they scored really low. I like FPS games but kinda question these based on the reviews.

This deal is only for Painkiller HD, the latest version. It's a retooled, prettier remake of the original Painkiller and I've heard it's pretty good. If you're looking at the Painkiller pack, anything but Painkiller Black and Painkiller HD are largely considered crappy, though I haven't played them.

I started totalling things up for this sale (slow first day back at work).. As the magic 8-ball used to say, "Outlook not so good"...

I'm at the same time glad nothing has grabbed me in the sale over the last few days, and likewise disappointed. Am I doing it right?

Any dedicated flight junkies out there?

I bought A10C Warthog for my dad, but apparently my brother had the same idea and gifted it to him before I could. So, that means I now have a copy of A10-C Warthog that I can give to one of the awesome flight junkies that visit here.

Prove you are the biggest flight junkie and it is yours. No coffee grinders though.

I was thinking about trying Warthog, but the reviews intimidated the hell out of me. Good luck, whoever winds up with it

Yea; I feel the same. I think I've just gone so crazy on prior Steam sales that most of these aren't doing it for me. However; I go to other sites like Amazon, Good Old Games, or Green Man Gaming for either a better price point or some variety. I have lately rediscovered a joy of old DOS PC games playing with DosBox on my Asus Tablet.

Touch screen Master of Orion 2 anywhere I want... hard to argue with that kind of portable gaming.

Thank you MrAndrewJ!!! Was intrigued by Hotline Miami from what I heard of it. Just not sure to get it or not.

Does anyone know if there are going to be new dailies on 1/5, or does the sale end at 10AM PST on 1/5? I'm trying to figure out if I need to buy the things I wanted that never went on a daily or flash sale on Friday or if I can wait until Saturday.

So far I've seen posts elsewhere that seem to indicate 1/4 is the last actual full day of the sale.
