Steam Winter Sale 2012 - Seriously Guys, It Was Over Two Months Ago! Move Along!

Ditto on the Civ V "meh". It looked like it could be good and the interface is just fantastic, but I kept wondering where all my fun Civ IV mechanics went.

I haven't finished a G&K game yet, but my overall impression is quite positive. It seems like they fixed most of the stuff that was dumb in vanilla, plus added a bunch of new stuff. Examining the tech tree, it looks like the post-WW2 era should last a fair bit longer. It seems like the religion system is particularly well thought-out.

Again, I can't be sure this soon, but I think this version could be, overall, better than Civ 4. I was really rather disappointed in the base game, and I think I would have been much, much more enthusiastic if G&K had been the version that originally shipped.

I paid $10... I was unwilling to spend $40 for what I saw as an expansion, but $10 seemed fair, and I'm happy with the purchase. I'm slightly annoyed by the fact that it's under $4 less than a week later, but while I lost big in percentage terms, in real money, it's only $6, not exactly a thing to be upset about.

I really didn't like Civ5 on release. I missed my Stacks of Doom, my squares, my micromanaging, etc.
G&K feels like a much different game, and religion really adds a lot.

I think that a lot of times, Civ5 gets compared to Civ4, but unfairly. It gets compared to what Civ4 was when Civ5 released, which was actually Civ4 + 2(or3?) expansions and a lot of patches. As it is now, with Civ5+G&K, it's a tossup whether I'll want to launch Civ4+BtS or Civ5+G&K. They really are very, very different games with some very similar mechanics/themes(tech trees, vast time scale, building an empire, etc).

Wow, this thread is really slow when the US is asleep! I just got around to launching Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble which Peedmyself was kind to gift me, and it really fun, fresh, different. Having tons of fun with it!!

Off to an evening with friends for the new year, so happy new year, goodjers! May 2013 be kind to you all!!!

Well, Dantooine is too remote to make an effective Steam location. But don't worry. We'll deal with your gifting friends soon enough.

(Just barely works there)

Endless Space and Sins:Rebellion back on sale in the flash deals.

Also Sins:Trinity, which I need enabling on.

Don't. Rebellion has the best of Trinity.

Just got Rebellion, and already had Trinity. Do I need both active on Steam, can you tell me, or just Rebellion at this point?

2013 resolution: I am going top learn Sins: Rebellion and Crusader Kings 2 even if I have to hire at Goodjer to guide me through both games.

You only need Rebellion. Trinity, at this point, is just limiting your options. And most Saturdays around 12-1 central time, if you hop on vent, you'll see some people milling around the Sins channel. Even if we can't get a VS. or a compstomp going, you could definitely get someone 2v1 the AI to help you get your bearings.

Whenever I see the name of that I think of the movie "Kentucky Fried Movie" which:
"The Kentucky Fried Movie consists of largely unconnected sketches that parody various film genres, including exploitation films. The film’s longest segment spoofs early kung-fu films, primarily Enter the Dragon; its title, A Fistful of Yen, refers to A Fistful of Dollars. Parodies of disaster films (That's Armageddon), blaxplotation (Cleopatra Schwartz) and softcore porn/women-in-prison films (Catholic High School Girls in Trouble) are presented as "Coming Attraction" trailers."

I strongly urge you to both watch it and avoid it at the same time.

Frozen Synapse and its DLC are 80% off on an unlisted flash sale right now. Not sure why it's unlisted, but I am sure that it's a great game!

Hmm. May have to see if I can do some shopping with the iOS steam app this morning. Haven't played all the way through the main game yet, but I do have the DLC on my list.

So, to start the sale Ahrezmendi gifted me a copy of Renegade Ops. Since then, I've put about 4 hours into the game, completed the single player, and still have the itch to play it. I hope the DLC goes on flash sale, because I want more levels to play!

Thanks again, sir!

Has anyone played Shattered Horizon on an older machine? I have a nearly 5-yr-old laptop that will run most things on low to mid settings, but SH looks like it might be a beast according to the specs. My rig is dx10 so it should run it, but I just want to know if it will be playable.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a demo available.

Thanks to Falchion for Mark of the Ninja!

Shattered Horizon is made by Futuremark (the benchmark software company) and it shows. It's a gorgeous game, and actually quite fun, but I wouldn't want to try to run it on an old laptop.

I kind of figured as much. Thanks, Elycion.

What a truly awesome way to kick off the new year!

12.01 on the dot I received an email in my inbox...

NSMike has just gifted me the Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet. Many thanks, on many levels Mike.

Happy 2013 Goodjers. A message from the future, it's looking bright, and full of gaming goodness!

New flash sales up

Chivalry: Modern Warfare $12.49
Castle Crashers $5.09
Train Simulator 2013 $13.74

Well Civ just got it's hooks into me again. Stated playing last year and looky looky, it's now the new year! Happy New Year everyone!

I don't yet own Thief Gold so I shall be hoping it tops this community vote. I have only ever played a few minutes of the entire Thief franchise - the original offering back in my youth - and I'm told this needs to be remedied!

I have the DVD. It's an excellent movie with a lot of really funny people in it.

I have also read it as Catholic High School Girls In Trouble every time someone posts about it.

Did I miss a flash sale on that game? It's been on my wishlist for a while.

This is getting silly. Every time a great game goes on sale, I look at it, and see somewhere between 100-250 friends that already own it, and 0 with it on their wishlist. Been through too many sales with you people. :p

In this case, Terraria, that just went on sale.

I own Fable III, though haven't played it yet (surprise, surprise). The franchise is part of today's sale and I was wondering if any of the DLC was worth picking up?

The other stuff on sale is Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Formula 1 - 2012, Alan Wake Franchise, The Binding of Isaac, and Terraria

Disappointing sales on Bonding of Isaac and Terreria; both have been 75% off repeatedly.

What is the consensus on the DLC for Deus Ex? Is it worth picking up?

Unfortunatly, Fable III itself wasn't worth playing, so I doubt the dlc is worth it.

LOL - so I guess I was ahead of the curve Though I will probably end up playing it someday, at least enough to let my sister ( the person that gifted it to me a year ago ) know that I actually did try it

The Missing Link is a good chunk of extra content. You play through it after the main game though, as it fills in a section of the game.

The other two are nothing much, but that's why they're priced at under a buck each

Many thanks to Grumpicus for the gift of The Binding of Isaac.

WizKid wrote:

I thought Missing Link was kind of forgettable and unnecessary. Which is a shame really because I loved Deus Ex.

So, Terraria... How kid friendly is it? I'm tempted to buy 3 licenses and setup extra Steam accounts for my kids to play with me but it looks a bit more combat heavy than I'd like. Plus huge flying skull monster things in the trailer. Any thoughts on this? My 4 & 6 year old love Minecraft and we play together nicely. I thought Terraria might be a bit easier for us to stay together and explore though (something that's kind of hard to explain to kids not used to moving around 3D terrain).

Have people been talking about the dark mod in conjunction with Doom 3 being on Steam sale? I didn't check here for 2 days and there's 200+ new posts :p

Anyhow, for $3.24 you get the doom 3 pack, which will let you play this.. I've been meaning to get back to it but I can't find my doom 3 discs since my move, but there was a recent release (Dark mod 1.08) that looks like its worth tracking it down for.

It's not terrible, but a huge step back from Fable II. I think if you played and enjoyed Fable II, it makes it hard to enjoy Fable III.

There are zombies in Minecraft, right? I do agree they seem less scary and threatening than some of the stuff you see in Terraria.

There are a lot of zombies, and they make grunting and groaning sounds. Then there are some weird huge eye bosses you fight. Oh, and if you dig deep enough... you get to the underworld and all that entails.

It's great fun, but I don't know how your kids would feel about it.
