Playstation 4 Games Catch-All

Yup. I got it a couple of days ago. It's making it harder not to buy Ghosts of Tsushima.

I haven't got it yet either. I swear, if they don't give me this ten dollars I'm buying a new Xbox. That'll show 'em.

I can't find it right now, but I read an interview article over the weekend in which Sony confirmed it is giving the $10 voucher to a limited number of players and would not reveal how they are deciding upon recipients.

Might want to go ahead and pre-order that Xbox, Ken.

That seems like a weird PR move that can only backfire. You are bound to disappoint more people than you make happy.

I should have mentioned the reason why. They mentioned it was "10 for 10" or something like that. $10 for 10 years of PS Plus. I guess I've been subscribed for a while.

I don't know, I'm pretty sure I didn't even own a PS3 until 2011 and I got the $10.

No £10.00 bonus for me either. I'll be getting an Xbox as well.

Spoiler:

Ha!

Sony, you know you're pulling at my gaming heart strings with those exclusives. An Xbox fake out is weak with this Returnal and Spider-Man: Miles Morales hopeful.

Out today:

I thought they said it was never going to happen, but I'm glad they changed their minds. I'm sure I'll get it but won't be able to finish it because it's too hard, but it is soooo pretty. Like Hollow Knight...

Downloading now. Can’t wait to break a controller or two.

The fact that I recognized most of those bosses makes me hopeful that I am approaching the end-game. Not that I am not having a great time with it. But my nerves and frustration can only take so much.

I hear people talk about hating boss battles and I've never understood that. Bosses are like an epitome of video games to me, so a game where you are boss battling non-stop is up my alley.

Usually boss battles change the rules on you, taking away the skills and techniques you've used all throughout the game and locking you in a closed room with an enemy where you just have to recognize their patterns and figure ways around them (times three). So while they most often come at the end of a section, they're not so much a culmination as pulling the rug out from under you, and a singular aberration from the game as a whole.

Right now I'm playing Ghost Of Tsushima, and I've occasionally run into "mini-bosses" that do exactly that - suddenly I'm in a closed off space (with no explanation, because I walked into it from an open world and no gates closed, I just can't leave at all), and all I can use is my sword and dodging, even though nothing took away my throwing knives, smoke bombs, etc. I can try doing the button presses for all my "ninja" skills that I've been using throughout the rest of the game, but nothing happens. For no reason that the game gives.

I don't think I've ever enjoyed a boss battle where it's distinct from the rest of the game; if I'm enjoying the rest of the game, why should you take away the things that I enjoy? On the other hand, if I'm not enjoying the rest of the game...well, if I actually get to the boss battle, that mistake is on me. The exception to that is Shadow of the Colossus, where the game is boss battles and getting to them. From what I've read, the same could be said of Cuphead.

I (and I think that is the case for many) dislike boss battles in story-focused games. Because they have to come of with weird reasons for why there is some superstrong boss all of a sudden. So you end up with ME2s human reaper. Or the weird super-zombie in TLOU2. As well as breaking the pace of the game for it.

Boss battles in Dark Souls, Cuphead etc. No problem! (well, not true, *@$% Cuphead boss battles, damn that game made me want to throw my monitor at someone)

Okay, that gives me some real insight. Thanks! Makes a lot of sense.

Those that pre-ordered Marvel's Avengers on PS4 get access to its Beta on August 7th, according to the War Table.

I feel like this game should probably get its own thread but I'm way too on the fence about it. I ended up pre-ordering it just so I could test it out in Beta but am fully prepared to cancel that pre-order and put it to something else.

There's definitely some elements in there that feel as if they've observed and learned from Destiny, and perhaps one of the highlights for many is the ability to do "multiplayer" missions with A.I. Companions based on how you've customized their appearance, skills, and equipment. It's like having a save file with one of every class in Destiny 2, but when you decide to do a Strike with your Warlock, your Hunter and Titan join in as A.I. companions.

That's not a bad idea at all.

The first DLC character announced (and if I recall additional content is aiming to be free?) is Hawkeye, and he's largely based on the Life as a Weapon comic line, which I recall being popular among comic reading GWJers.

The character designs are just so boring. The most generic, focus-tested version possible, it seems.

PS4 will also have free open betas the following two weekends. I generally like these types of games, but I never get too deep into them. I'm interested in trying it out.

I'm still not super interested in the game, but that looks significantly better than what was shown a year ago. I mean, just compare it to this footage of Black Widow fighting Taskmaster.

It looks like August is going to be a pretty great month for PS+ with Modern Warfare 2 Remastered and Fall Guys. Fall Guys is a new battle royale game from Devolver Digital. From Polygon:

Fall Guys is a battle royale game that pits you against 59 other players on a huge colorful obstacle course. Some courses might have you dodging moving blocks while avoiding lava. Other courses might have you team up with other players to try to end up with the most chicken eggs before time runs out. On each course, only a certain number of players qualify, narrowing down the pool until you get to the final stage. Only one jelly bean-shaped guy can win the crown.

It looks like they're releasing this first on PS+, Rocket League style. I've seen nothing but praise for this game since people started previewing. I'm eager to try it.

Fall Guys looks a blast. The idea of a ninja warrior style battle royal game, playing with friends should be a laugh. I wonder how hard the courses get & if you can bump into others? It be great to send people flying off balance beams & other obstacles.

Fall Guys looks great! Very happy it's probably coming to all platforms.

I watched nearly a two hour stream. We’ll have to give it a go.

New State of Play Thursday, August 6th at 1pm PT/4pm ET. It will largely cover PS4 and PSVR games, with a minor touch on some 3rd party and indie games revealed during the PS5 showcase. I doubt there will be much in the way of 1st party titles.

Apparently the new PS Plus games are available to download. Fall Guys here I come.

Edit: In other news SuperHOT’s free MIND CONTROL DELETE dlc has been added to my library (I checked a little while ago and it hadn’t appeared) for anyone who was, like me, looking forward to it’s arrival.

Mind Control Delete is not DLC. It’s a new game.

Oh. Fantastic.

Weird, Fall Guys didn't show up in the list of free games on the PS+ store page for me, but if I searched for the game, it was free.

Similar.
I saw it pop up on that slideshow for PSPlus.

Even weirder: it's now Wednesday, the day after new PS+ free games launch, and the Free PS+ Games page is still showing all of last month's offerings for me: CoD 2, NBA 2K20, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Erica.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is an August game - they just made it available a few days early. Fall Guys is the other August PS+ game, and it's showing as available for me now.

If Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2019 didn't take up so much space with all their constant updates didn't fill up my 2TB with the quickness, I'd be able to download both of those. But CoD: MW is a monster of a space hog. I need to just beat the single player and delete that thing so my hard drive isn't pushed to its last megabyte
