PS+ Plus General PSN Game Talk

Yeah, everyone should have Journey. If PSN had a gifting option like Steam... Also, everyone should play Papa & Yo. It's excellent.

If you need further enabling, I started talking about it here in the thread.

I heard a rumor that Mortal Kombat will be a freebie for PS+ soon, has anyone else heard this? Am I imagining things?

It was the free game on EU PSN about a month ago, so that's probably the source of the rumor.

Is Journey on regular sale or PS+ only?

EDIT: Never mind, found it in the general video game deals thread. $10. Might be good enough to grab it finally.

Well, Mortal Kombat shows up in the US store under my instant game collection for the Vita now. Though it still shows the 30 dollar price. Hopefully it'll get updated soon.

Good that it's coming for others. Still, that campaign was tough and I don't see myself playing through it again. Nor do I see myself playing it online when I could just do so on my 360. Is there any Vita exclusive content? I think the DLC characters are included, yeah? I could finally give them a look I guess.

So, how do you gift something on PSN? Buy credit and hope they buy what you "bought" for them? Journey is a fantastic gift, but I'd want to give it to my cousin who really only plays the known quantities without him knowing. :\

Retro City Rampage is pretty fun on the Vita. If you grew up on the NES, definately check it out.

Bought Journey this morning. Hope to get to it sometime this week.

Sorry, I am sure this is well covered. Trying PS+ for a month (thought the system came with 3 months for some reason but don't see a code) and will 100% be subbing. Some Q's, though:

How ofter do months/year go on sale? Curious if it's worth 3 monthing until there is a sale or just ponying up. It should be known I really like a good deal

How do I enable updates when it is turned off?

Will games DL if turned off, or do I need to leave them turned on?

Can I select to DL more than one game at a time? Should I?

1 - Not sure, I haven't seen a sale for PS+ myself yet.
2 - On PS3 it'll prompt you when you start a game to enable automatic updates/cloud saves. On Vita you have to turn it on yourself in Settings.
3 - I don't know for sure, but I don't think so. Even with PS+ I've had to set them downloading, and turn on power saving for the system.
4 - Nope.

I think the only real deal on getting PS+ for, say a year, has been when you spend $100 bucks during a specific month, you get a $20 credit the next month. That has happened a couple times so far. A lot of people bought a couple games and a year's subscription. It's not the best deal, but you might keep an eye out for that.

Games will update automatically, but the saves won't go cloud unless you manually tell them too. Whenever you start a game that hasn't been played before with PS+, it ask if you want to enable cloud saving. If you are wanting to backup all your old saves, you need to go through all the games, hit triangle IIRC, and enable cloud saving. That's a good idea in case your PS goes kaput at random. Even if you have a backup, you can't use the backup without ruining your trophy progress. PS+ Cloud Saves get rid of that issue.

You will have the option to have your PS update at say, 3 a.m. every day. I can't recall where that setting is. It's somewhere in settings.

I don't believe PS+ memberships ever go on sale. If they do, it so rare, I can't recall it ever happening.

You will be prompted about automatic updates and save uploads when you subscribe, I believe. Otherwise, it's in the settings -> system settings -> automatic menu. It's the first thing under system settings and the big yellow plus makes it nearly impossible to miss. I look forward to hearing that you couldn't find it later.

Games can DL in the background and the system will auto shut-down when done. You can schedule a time for auto-updates and save uploads where the system will automatically turn on and do the data transfers for you.

You can use the download all button, or add to a queue 1 by 1 to make a big list of games to DL (prioritizes the most recent add, and I don't think you can change it other than pausing everything else after that)

Games that have been downloaded but not yet installed will auto-install during that "3AM trophy/cloud/update window". This almost makes the download and install process tolerable...

I have that set up, but every times try to play a new game from PS+, it's like a 45 minute download. I must be doing it wrong.

PS+ memberships were on sale for EU customers as part of their winter sale. Sony EU apparently has to work a lot harder to entice European customers to sign up.

I need to re-sub for at least a month to backup my saves again. It's been what, 18 months since that free month we all got? That long since I backed up RB3 saves, and the others that won't backup to USB. Hm...

Once a game is downloaded, installed, and launched once, all subsequent updates should happen during that 3AM auto-update window. Like I said... almost tolerable.

Oh ok. It's that 1st update that is killing me.

To add to that, I think it will only keep updating the last 10 games played (not ALL games ever played). Also, ps+ was discounted in the US, but that was 2 years ago when the service still mostly sucked d/t a lack of good freebies. I get the yearly sub since you get so much that $50.

Great info, thanks. Even though I joined for the free month it won't let me set up the free month because it tells me to join. It then tries to take me to the store, an error occurs, and I'm asked to select quit. Best I try to set that up tomorrow. So that's the auto update part. Where do you select for it to be 3am- that's just what it is when you tell it to auto update? Also, is there a separate setting for auto installing a dl?

Also, in order to get in on a window I don't actually have to download in that month- I just have to purchase it for free, correct?

Also, thanks a lot for the help.

As to the get in on a window thing, all you have to do is "purchase" it from the store. No download is required. It's yours forever as long as you happen to be a PS+ member at whatever point you decide you would like to play it.

demonbox wrote:

Just go through the auto-update setup and it will ask you what time frame and specific things to enable. The time is listed as like 00:00 - 02:00, 02:00 - 04:00 and so on.

I was auto-prompted this morning when I went in to finish Journey with my kids. The PS3 servers were just being hammered last night, I'm sure. Also, really surprised- considering the complaints- that the update downloads haven't taken that long at all. Maybe things have simply improved over the years. Thanks again for all the help.

Next question- how often do you want to talk to people on your PS3? My dad got me some good PC headphones (Logitech G930) but they apparently don't work with PS3. Curious how much that will even be a factor. Going in with the belief that I will continue to default to PC for multiplayer games (for the most part).

Also, can someone point me to where I can enter my PS3 id for friendsmanship?

I think DL speeds may have been improved in newer revisions on the system. I've only thought of using voice once on the PS3. Just tell us what you PSN id is we can add you, or you can click the link(s) in my profile to see mine if you like.

Here's the basic GWJ Google Doc. You can put your PSN, XBL, Steam, Origin, etc into there on the Logins Per Platform tab. I have went through there and added Origin and PS3 people before. Or you could put some specific PS3 games that you want to play in that section.

At one point Killzone 3 had a bunch of us playing. Also Dark Souls and Demon's Souls have a bunch, but it doesn't look like there's a game column for those. A lot of us end up adding each other in specific game threads.

I updated the google doc with my stuff as well as added a raptr column so please feel free to add me everyone.

How often do you check to see what free games and discounts have been updated? Once a month or so? Also, what the heck is a time trial and how is it different than a demo?

The store is updated weekly, usually on Tuesday. I usually check the "expiring soon" section once a week to see if there is something I want to get (like a free game that I may play later).

A time trial gives you one hour of the full game. The timer starts as soon as you begin, and does not pause. I used it recently to see if I would like Need for Speed: Most Wanted. I enjoyed my time, and picked up the game a few days later. I was able to start up right where I left off. You earn trophies (if that's your thing) during the trial as well.

Is it one hour of game time or one hour total? Could this be stretched out over a couple of days or only to be used all at once? Weird questions, I know- but just curious. And, thanks.

One hour of real-world time, starting from the time you launch the game. If you quit out of the game, the timer continues ticking. And you cannot redownload the game once it's expired.
