Destiny Catch-All

I gotta say I'm pretty annoyed at the refer a friend program. I just got my friend into the game like a month ago so that means we don't qualify for the cool new stuff. Really I wouldn't care normally but it all looks so cool. :(

My roommate went out and bought an Xbox copy of TTK for a mutual friend last month, who had done all of Y1 on Playstation. I honestly don't have any more real-world friends left that a) want to play Destiny and b) aren't already playing Destiny.

With me being super compulsive and not being able to wait for the Black Friday deals, in the span of a couple of weeks, I have picked up a new PS4 (uncharted bundle w/ free FO4) and just today bought Destiny TTK.

I am starting my character from scratch (not doing the instant bump to level 25). I have read a couple of articles that recommend going through the story missions solo the first time to learn the basics and ensure that I don't get carried too much. I am competent with fps games, but never got into Halo much. Is this a generally agreed-upon strategy?

Also, if there are some GWJ'ers out there that are willing to add me to their friend's list, I would love to start building my Destiny friend network

My PSN id is: dragos-gwj

Thanks!

Solo is pretty good for most of it. There's a few strikes and tougher missions, so feel free ask for help whenever. Plus I just like running missions, despite levels. I have to get some XP on my raid drops anyways.

Had good fun with a nice random grouping of 5-6 of us for Iron banner last night. So much nicer without rando's. We pulled out allot of close ones at the very end.

Hah, that was a pretty rowdy group by the end. My ears are still hurting. It was a good time though. After you and Crinks left, I got a shotgun out and grabbed my "best around" medal for the weekly. Sniping just wasn't gonna work.

It's amazing how often you can pull out those last second victories when you don't have your .07 kd blueberry suicide rushing at the end of the game.

Someday that strategy will actually work and everyone I'm running at will be too intimidated/confused to shoot me.

I just bought destiny and activated it yesterday. So if someone wants to send me a pm with a refer-a-friend link for the ps4, I play around ~8-10pm (MST). Thanks.
Edit Got one thanks

I had a decent first Iron Banner run and I learned a lot about pick up group dynamics. I found with clash that if I stayed in a group and played smart I could get fairly good results (lots of assists and useful supers).

Now today I played a few control matches and my team mates are running all over the place. So many guys run into a zone kill all the dudes and then run off without capturing it. I try to stick with them and capture zones when I can but I feel way more helpless. Gonna have to relearn how to be useful.

In regular crucible, I've found the best results coming from "just play the objective".

For Control and Zone Control, you want to be the team "owning" two of the three points closest together, so it's easy to support each zone and clear out capture attempts. At the same time, the LAST thing you want to do is control all 3 zones. It sounds counter-intuitive, but there's solid reasoning behind it - if you own all 3, you're spread too thin, you've pushed so far into the map that the other team will begin spawning just about anywhere that you aren't, and make it very hard to "control" where they are.

Even if you're playing with a team of rando muppets, being "that one guy always defending" can get you a lot of points.

Of course, I throw this out the window if I've got quests I'm trying to clear out. I'm kind of excited about this weekly being Control, because I might actually be able to get Imprecation's required "7 headshot kills in one match".

There's a reason I don't play PvP, and it is because no matter how much I go in with a plan to take my time, as soon as the match starts I turn into Leroy Jenkins.

That one's a toughie. (As much because of the low ammo count as anything). It would be easier if there were a match type where you could guarantee longer games. You can boost it a bit by playing the free-for-all mode with friends and having them let you kill them. One of my friends got his that way.

Made it to level 20 last night. Still just doing story and trying to collect bounties where I can. Once I finish Mars I'll probably take a look at purchasing Taken King. I still have some missions for the last two DLC to get through though.

See you can ask Crinkle/Dyni/Localgod but I play like Leroy every game. Just need to learn to be Leroy and keep your K/D up.

I play better when I play like Leroy, to be honest. Shotguns are still OP.

Shotguns are OP against general populous. Once you get 6-7 wins into a ToO ticket, you will see how inferior they truly are to snipers. Again though that is only in the most competitive mode and the high end.

Sure, I was talking regular crucible here. I actually have never played trials myself, but I've seen the high end play, and snipers are king - especially the ones that can one-down a shielded resurrected player. (1k stare).

Yeah anytime I get put up against an all-sniper team in ToO I just sigh because I know I'm about to get owned.

Shotguns seem OP but are a godsend for those of us who can't shoot out kneecaps from the other side of the map and keep forgetting we have a grenade button.

At risk of stating the obvious, against all-sniper teams it's important to simply never give them the shot opportunity. I.e., set up in a position of strength without anyone exposing themselves and force them to come to you. On symmetrical maps this is usually just about finding a no-sniper route to the capture zone (if it's defensible, i.e., not Widow's Court or Bannerfall). On asymmetric maps the inferior spawn can be rough against sniper teams who know where to set up.

Few teams have the discipline to just sit and wait, so you can often steal rounds by just forting up somewhere if you're getting wildly out-sniped. On Bannerfall whenever we faced a pack of sniper gods we would spend a round or two sitting inside our big building or lurking in the inner yard, and even though there was absolutely zero reason for them to assault us when they held the exterior, they always did. The key is to mix up your plays and stay disciplined. There is no percentage in peeking around a corner to visually scout your opponent when you know they're sniping.

Having said all of that, there simply is no possible counterplay to a top 1% sniper. They'll headshot you from across the map or at shotgun range with equal facility. Hence the problem with the weapon class, in this game and 95% of other games that feature snipers.

Good run down, Crinks. The short range scopes (like on the recently god-rolled RR4) make it even easier for the 1%'ers at close range. Heck, even I can do it on occasion, and I'm a middling sniper at best. Since there's very little "long range" in this game's pvp, it makes sense for the scopes to be shorter range, but that's small consolation when you get the drop on a sniper with your shotty and get domed anyway.

Think today is the day I grab the game, seeing Legendary Edition for 49.99 CAD on both amazon.ca and bestbuy.ca. Anyone else seeing better deals at Canadian retailers?

Xur has Helm of Saint 14 today, a great Defender helm! I'll be buying that for my new (but already 311) Titan.

He is also selling The Fourth Horseman, an hilarious shotgun, which he has never sold before.

Yeah I picked up Fourth Horseman, it's pretty fun to use in crucible. Slide into a room and full auto down 3 guys that have their back to me in a manner of seconds? Yeah that's crazy.

So for reasons I don't quite understand, I downloaded Taken King on PS4 tonight.

You new players should carefully pick someone to team up with for the refer-a-friend program. You have 7 days from when you first play to take someone's referral link. Doing this gives some exclusive cosmetic items that are greatly desired by many. You have to actually play together to unlock them, as I understand it.

Thanks Fedaykin, I bought the Taken King (hopefully) with a Refer a Friend link. I was going to give the friend who just bought it mine. Didn't know you actually had to play together though.

So I just got a quest from Shaxx to complete matches in Elimination playlists. I can't seem to find it. Is it a rotating mode? Thanks in advance.

Are you clicking on Crucible in the top right on the Director screen? I am working on this questline myself right now, and all the game modes have been there.

Yeah I think so. Right next to the vanguard list right? Does it go by another name? It's not Osiris is it?
