So I think I found a new home but...

So I've been listening to the GWJ podcast for over a year now and a member here at the forums for just as long but because of the sheer amount of active threads I've been hesitant to juimp in. So why GWJ? Well the simple answer is I'm a gamer. I've been playing since Pong was hot. I'm a child of the 70's and 80's. I snuck out with a friend to go play Space Invaders when it was new and cool. We had a local store with Pacman and Stargate when they were the hot games and I dropped many quaters into them. I begged my mother for an Atari 2600 and loved all the games I had for it. Later on I discovered the Commodore 64 at a friends house and fell back in love with video games. Later in life I became a PC gamer even though I had a NES, SNES, Genisis, N64 and all the other consoles. PC games were just better at the time. Then I got an Xbox 360 and found consoles were fun too. So here I am at 42 years old and I'm hooked on achievements and I play Xbox, PS3, iOS, Andriod, and PC games and I find a community of people who are I think the same as me. Thank you to everyone here at GWJ for letting me know I'm not the only weird guy at work who loves to be a gamer.

Mate, don't worry about the active thread thing. Just jump in! Aside from private forum a friend set up for a bunch of school friends when we moved off around the world, this is the first and only place that I have felt comfortable to contribute to regularly (or, at least, make ill-considered ramblings on). It sounds like you are a properly serious gamer, too!

All in all, we are a friendly bunch, and another viewpoint, tip, rant or whatever is always welcome.

Welcome, weirdo.

Sounds like you covered all the bases! Good to have people with deep experience to keep the kids off the lawn.

I'm in the same boat. I love this place, I've tired other communities but none of them ever had the right feel. I'm only about half your age but I've, due to some very strange circumstances, become the guardian of a 15 year old girl so I sure as hell fell a lot older than I am so maybe thats why GWJ has always felt right. I've noticed theres a lot of parent's around here so it makes the whole thing a bit less weird to me.

I may not be as old as most of you but this place has always been my home as well as far as gaming is concerned. So heres a hearty thanks from me as well. As well as one to you Shack70 for giving me an actual thread to voice it in.

Yes! Welcome to another old school gamer!

42 years old and plays a lot of vidya games. Hm, I have no idea what that would be like.

That would have been me of course. Still have my original C-64 (and fastload cartridge), but haven't fired it up in several years.

42s of the site, unite!

My favorite on the C64 was making the prompt something fun. I don't recall everything off the top of my head, but Prompt $p$g was the directory you were in and a > sign.
