Madison - mini S&T this Sunday, Feb 17th

Fellow Badger-state Goodjers:

Psych (who's he?) will be visiting the fair city of Madison this coming weekend. This is the kick in the pants I needed to get together a long-overdue Slap and Tickle.

The plan is to hit up roller derby Saturday night (specifically, this bout for our local group, the Mad Rollin' Dolls), and to have folks over for gaming and foodstuffs Sunday afternoon / evening. (Think Sunday will be at our place, though I think Phish is much more well-equipped for console play, since Mrs. Dim and I don't have a TV).

I know Phish is in for Sunday at least, and that there are some other Goodjers in southern wisconsin who I haven't yet met in person. We'd love to fix that.

Who's in?

Speaking of pants, they are optional for this event. And by optional I mean recommended against. I'm not even packing any. WINK.

You may be cold sleeping out in the coop with our chickens.

I won't be able to make the bout Saturday night, but if you all hang out somewhere after I can probably meet.
I'm in for Sunday for sure. All my consoles are back at my house in Cincinnati, so we're not missing much there tbh. I do have some board games here though which I would be happy to bring. If we're looking to commit to some time I have Arkham Horror plus a few expansions. Otherwise I have a virgin copy of RISK: Legacy as well as Seven Wonders. I may have my copy of Pandemic around here, I'll have to check.

I might have to run this past the tower. What sort of timeline are we looking at?

I might be able to join in some of the fun on Sunday afternoon. Just need to be downtown by 7pm for a work dinner.

I have a pretty healthy collection of board games (see my BGG profile below) and would be happy to teach something! Also up for video games of any sort.

Talk about bad timing! I'll be in town next week (Monday the 18th) for about a week (Fri or Sun). If any of you are still in town then, I'd love to meet you.

Given that DreadGazebo has to cut out for a work dinner, probably skewing on the earlier side. I will have to teach the next morning at the dojo, so we'd probably have to chase everyone out by 9 or 10 anyways. Making up a number out of whole cloth, how would folks feel about starting at like 2pm or so? That'd let Psych sleep off the previous night's celebrations and find his way across our ice-strewn yard from the coop where he'll be staying if this whole no-pants thing isn't a bluff.

I will still be in town and would love to get together even if it's just for food and/or drinks.

It's not a bluff, its a promise. You'll love it.

Yeah I'd be up for that too. Lots of great places to grab a beverage in Madison!

In the absence of contrarywise postings, I think we'll start around 2pm on Sunday.

I expect things to be small and fairly low-key, but any Goodjers (and family or friends) who are interested are welcome to attend.

And if you are interested, just say so in-thread and I'll PM you our address and directions later this week.

I'm in.

Bah, plans have changed and a more experienced coworker is going instead of me. If any of you see our products in the surrounding areas, feel free to break it so I have a reason to come visit.

Bummer. Tell us what to break at least? Dimmer knows kung fu.

Hey folks-

PMs have been sent with our address to everyone who's expressed interest in-thread - the more the merrier though, so please feel free to bring friends and family who might be interested, even if they're not on the forums.

Tonight (Saturday):
Will be going to the Mad Rollin' Dolls derby bout at the Alliant Energy Center. That should start at 5pm. I expect we'll go out somewhere afterwards for dinner or drinks, and then probably somewhere else for drinks. My cell will be on, and folks who have posted in-thread should have my number. If you'd like to join us at any point, that's totally cool.

Tomorrow (Sunday):
Starting around 2pm, folks can show up for board gaming, food and drinks at the Dimmer family homestead. Friends and family are very welcome, as are any board or card games you'd like to bring along. I'll be doing a supply run Sunday morning, so we should be set for snacks and drinks, but you're certainly welcome to bring along any food or drinks you'd like.

Things to be aware of: we have dogs (they're friendly, but if you're allergic our house will be challenge mode). Also, we don't have a TV, so console gaming won't happen unless someone is determined enough to bring a TV as well.

Look forward to seeing folks at either / both. I promise to make Psych keep his pants on (otherwise, you can go visit him in our chicken coop, if you're brave enough).

Thanks for the good times this afternoon guys and thanks again for hosting Dimmer. 7 Wonders was great as always and I was really glad I got to finally try out (and totally dominate Risk: Legacy. Mechsico forever!

Down for this again any time.

You should try visiting New Mechico some time. (We played a second round and opened up the "never open this packet" packet)

Hah, awesome! Jealous you guys got to give it another go.

I did vote against that, though i was a minority of one - and it worked out for me, as my BattleMex stomped to victory, thanks to an early alliance with Norfair.

Really good times, and I'm super-glad you all were able to come out. I'm sorry this was woefully overdue, but cheers to Psych for being the catalyst to get us going.

Was great to meet Norfair and Dreaded Gazebo (who is different from @DreadGazeebo, it turns out) in person - I had a blast, and look forward to our next S&T.

Three brief photos from the weekend. First up, Psych is a impressed by a hit at the roller derby bout:

Terrible, out-of-focus shot of us after the first round of Risk: Legacy

LtR: Dimmerswitch, Psych, Dreaded Gazeebo, Phishposer, Norfair

Spoiler:

Apparently Psych and I were the only ones who actually followed through on "Everyone give a thumbs-up".

Phishposer, opening the "DO NOT OPEN" cards prior to our second game of Risk: Legacy.

I totally ratted Phish out to Rob Daviau (who is a Goodjer, and designed the game) on Twitter, too.

Anyone want to guess where Dimmer's other thumb is located?

I had both my thumbs up. Why do you think Norfair's eyes are closed?
I'll get a shot of the board so the losers can name their minor cities (we forgot to do that after the second game). I also need to upload my video of Psych playing pool much better than I ever will.

Looks like fun! Difficult to imagine one place could contain all the awesome!

Turns out Dimmer's living room was a perfectly up to the task.

Well, if anyone would have an industrial-strength awesome containment unit disguised as a living room, it would be Dimmer.

Aw man, this shindig looks awesome, I'm jealous. Also, this pic is begging to be cropped and turned into a TF2 spray.

Vis a vis the thumbs up pic, it is now clear who must be destroyed. DOWN WITH THE PHISH/NORFAIR AXIS!

I just want to give a warning to all who visit Dimmer. He will get you all liquored up then buy you a pink tank top.

Actually in the second risk game it was the Dimmer and Norfair alliance. All hail New Mechico!

Thread resurrection/hijack! We can start a new thread I just wanted to introduce myself

So, in case you don't visit the Love thread too much..... I just took a job in Oshkosh, WI. YAY!

I don't know yet when my start date is (most likely mid-July). I am leaning towards living in Appleton instead of Oshkosh. Any tips/tricks I should know coming from mid-Ohio?

Awesome news! I kinda like the entire Fox River Valley TBH. Appleton is awesome, especially if you can find something near the river.
I'm working on planning something at my new place later this summer. I'll put a thread up to gather interest once I'm clear enough of family stuff to devote enough attention to event planning.

Heya TigerBill - glad to have another Goodjer in the area.

I defer to Phishposer on the Fox River Valley, as I don't know it all that well.

(And Phish, happy to pitch in with everything except hosting when you're up for air and thinking S&T).

Regardless, feel free to ping Phish or I when you're out this way and we can meet up for beer sometime.
