Pick 'Ems
49ers vs. Ravens: Well, it's not looking good for us. Last year, I wondered if any of our skilled pickers would rank above someone that just picks the oddsmaker's favorite for every single game. As it stands now, we have 3 pickers tied with the oddsmakers results, and the rest of us are below that line. The 49ers are favored, so the only chance anyone has at beating the oddsmakers is if one of our three 60-win pickers goes with the Ravens and the Ravens win.

However, the Ravens won't. Colin Kaepernick, motherf**kers. 49ers.

Former 49ers offensive tackle Kwame Harris was arrested for domestic violence. Against his boyfriend. Over soy sauce.

So, this incident was a bit of a reveal of Harris's preferences - it was not known publicly until now that he is gay, and he is the most recently active NFL player to have been outed post-career - Harris's most recent NFL stint was in 2008 with the Raiders.

Before I go further, I'm going to say that I respect Kwame Harris for what he no doubt went through as a closeted man in the NFL. I'm sure that was a day-in day-out distraction and struggle for him. I hope that he can become another positive voice for changing the perspective of the NFL on homosexuality.

That said, I am now going to make fun of Kwame Harris, not because he's gay, but because I have long enjoyed poking fun at Harris. And because I'm about to link to one of my favorite videos on the Internet.

It makes me a bad person, no doubt, that the first thing I thought of when I heard this news was, "well, that explains all the holding".

Couple of articles I've liked from this week:

Jim Harbaugh and the female reporter

Jim Trotter's piece on Greg Roman

Not enough has been said about the job Greg Roman has done this year. It is hands down the best, most creative offensive coordinating since the Greatest Show on Turf. Coordinator of the Year, period. And no doubt Harbaugh himself has a hand in it too, but even beyond that, Harbaugh deserves credit for having the trust in Roman to let him go as far off the beaten path as he has - even before they started adding the pistol to the mix. No doubt that trust goes back to the pair's time together in Stanford before Harbaugh brought him along to San Francisco.

The best news for the 49ers is the fact that, by virtue of delaying the end of the season for so long, Greg Roman won't be jumping to any head coaching jobs this offseason. As a fan of the 49ers, I'm happy about that, but as a fan of the Jaguars, I'm extremely disappointed that the team didn't hold out for Roman to free up.

I snuck into the group tied for 2nd, apparently. We're only one game back. So, I'll pick the...

Ravens.

Homer pick Ravens

49ers

Ravens. I think the 9ers are the better team but this Ravens run makes it feel like it is just their year.

I am inclined to dislike the Ravens because they're division rivals.... but will root for them anyway because 9ers fans have already been insufferable all season long.

I think the niners have the better team (especially on the front seven on both sides of the ball) but John has more experience in big games and experience matters. If the ravens can keep it close it may come down to a kickers duel and I wouldn't want to be akers' life insurance agent if it does.

49ers

It may be Alex's last chance for a ring....

49ers

I'm not sure who I'll pick yet, but I just wanted to say it's been an honor to make choices with you people each and every week. I feel like we've formed close bonds that will last a lifetime.

PS: Say hi to your mother for me, *Legion*.

NINERS!

49ers, just because. Of course, I've picked against the Ravens consistently and they've been winning, so clearly I'm controlling this situation with my magic wrong-picking powers. Be forewarned.

@Jayhawker and @Sheared, if you two pick different teams, it guarantees that Certis can't win the year outright.

Ravens

edit
I vote next year we go with the Spreads instead of Pickems. Maybe we can beat the Canadians that way!!!!

Pretty sure I'm 2-0, since I had the 49ers in the other thing and I would never pick for the Patriots in the playoffs against anyone.

I'll dig up the post if I must... EDIT: Er, yeah it's the first post in the thread.

Anyway, 49ers, make it 6-0!

49ers

I originally wanted the Ravens to win but Ray Lewis in the spotlight has managed to make me officially sick of them. There is more to the team then you Ray. Go 49ers!

Ravens over the 49ers

The only problem with the spread is that it changes from day to day. I mentioned it earlier in the playoffs I wouldn't mind taking over for Legion as far as the picks go, and he can continue to give the weekly run down, so it's not all on his shoulders. I wouldn't mind picking vs the spread, maybe sticking with the Wednesday morning spread as the spread for the week?

*EDIT*
Maybe we'll do 4 games next year and a Wild Card game, like RatBoy used to do.

Never really wanted a player to get injuried playing before but if something horrible were to happen to Culliver on Sunday night, I can't say I would be upset.

Indeed. Beyond just the ignorance itself, how dumb must a person be to spout anti-gay stuff when your football team's home city is, of all places in the US, San Francisco?

Fine, have your 2-0.

Some more pre-game reading:

Smart Football looks at the Ravens deep-threat offense and how the Ravens will try to shut down Kaepernick.

The posts aren't Raven-centric; the one about Flacco gets into SF's Cover 2 man defense (which is pretty darned sophisticated), and the one about Kaepernick breaks down the 49ers zone read offense.

On a related note, who should I root for?

Feels like fantasy football again, always competing with you. :p

Thankfully we're on opposite sides for Sunday:

Sure..whoever writes up for the week takes the spread at the time of the write up...we all go by that spread no matter what the line ends up being or when we select our picks

Man, we are like attached at the hip or something. Good luck.

Help! Some buds and I are planning a Super Bowl party using CBS's live stream. I'm just wondering if people who watched past Super Bowls online can attest to the stream's quality.

Ftfy...don't want NFL lawyers harassing you

I think using a spread for the picks is a bad idea. These are just casual picks and going with a spread makes it a lot less casual.

I should have coasted to a win, but really blew it late. I also have two picks of the chiefs that I knew better.

So I'm just gonna proclaim myself the Champ and pick the Ravens.

Any tie-breaker ideas, or do we care?
