Ninokuni: The Another World (Ghibli + Level 5 RPG) coming to PS3

Well, googling a bit led me to an Amazon forum showing that others have received the email. Here's hoping the delay to 2013 was all an elaborate marketing stunt.

I can hope, right?

Heheh. They sent a correction email already. It was fun while it lasted. Disgruntled employee?

So should we abandon our hopes of receiving a coin or will they show how serious they are by extending the deadline again? :p

I'm not sure. They've added almost 100 additional preorders, but the percentage counter hasn't moved at all (since it went from 88 -> 93).

In all honesty, I don't really see why it didn't run up until late Nov or Dec (leaving some time for manufacturing / assembly).

So, now the counter says we made it to goal 3 and there are -1 days remaining.

So, yay? A gold coin for everyone!

I got the same emails and was very excited for a minute. Oh well. It was a fun dream.

Some cam footage of the game. Can't wait.

A demo goes up on PSN tomorrow.

I'm skipping the demo; looking forward to diving into this one with no prior experience beyond the early preview videos I saw months ago.

I'm not skipping it. I'm stoked for it, but won't be home until Friday night.

Same here. I want to be as surprised as possible by what I paid big money for.

Skipping the demo too. I don't like watching movies that are already partially done so I'd rather avoid spoilers for a game I am already getting!

I'm gonna skip mostly for time reasons. I'm focusing on Nier, P4G, and FF XIII. Hopefully, I can get those wrapped up before the release.

I was really impressed with the look and feel of the demo. It looks like it's going to be a pretty happy go lucky sort of plot so far, but I'm utterly charmed none the less. Definitely going to be picking it up!

quick demo impressions:
1) it's tougher than I thought it would be, but maybe that's just a function of being dumped right into a boss fight. Also got easier once I figured out that healing/mp thingies will just drop every once in a while.
2) wish there was a button mapped to "defend" instead of having to pull it out of a menu.
3) wish it were fully voiced, but I guess that would have been too much to hope for.

Played the demo a little. Wow, it reminds me of Dragon Quest 8. Played that about 2 years ago for 40 hours but never finished it. This looks great. The art/graphics are amazing. I'm def picking up.

I finally got around to the demo this morning. I agree about the DQ8 similarities, though I assume that's the Level5 touch. Really enjoyed the gameplay, though the combat takes a little getting used to. It's a mix of turn based and real time (which I knew beforehand), but played differently than I expected.

Glad I preordered this several months ago. Can't wait for it to show up!

While the demo looked good, it irked me in a few ways:

1. The first scenario puts you right into a boss fight with no explanation of mechanics. I died the first time because I didn't know that health pickups were dropping around the field. When I died and chose to restart, the game warned me that I would lose all my money, which I wasn't sure if I should care about. I played again and died again. This is not a good way to get potential customers interested in your game.

2. I tried the second scenario, which as you running up a mountain, with a 3 minute time limit, and running into monsters. Now you have a whole party, and things appear even more confusing. You are time limited, which makes you want to rush past the beautiful scenery. Finally, there is a hard 25 minute time limit that continues, even when you pause the game. I had to take a phone call while I was playing and one thing led to another, and when I came back, the game had restarted of its own accord.

After that I was done with the demo. Again, it looks nice, but it did not do a good job selling me on the game.

Yeah, it was a terrible demo. I spotted a typo within a few seconds of one of the scenarios. The game seems nice regardless.

Not much here you haven't already heard, but the fact that she's 9 hours in and Oliver only has one familiar/companion/whatever bothers me. This is what I don't like about Level-5. Oh well. Gonna have to deal with it.

Are you saying that you don't like that it takes too long to get into the meat of the game? I don't really want to watch the preview due to spoilers. Being on a JRPG binge as of late, I'm okay with the game taking awhile to get into.

Exactly. Too long to get into the depths of the mechanics. I'm fine with it being story (and all pretty and all), but grinding through battles with one companion thingy (well, two, but I'm not going into detail about what I mean, effectively it's one) doesn't appeal to me. Level-5 just doesn't seem to take chances with their systems and it bores me to death.

I'm not really prejudging the game, more worried that I'll burn out on it.

Gotcha, yeah, I understand. For some reason, I'm okay with some JRPG grinding. I think it's just because I'm new to JRPGs as of this year.

I woke up this on the first day of the new year with two thoughts: I wish I'd stayed up late enough to get that text last night, and I REALLY WANT TO PLAY NI NO KUNI.

One of you bastards sell me on a PS3. No! Nevermind! I will be strong!

Pros: This game and The Last of Us actually make up the first one-two punch that's really intrigued me. I'd like to play Journey as well. I also think a PS3 would boost the value of my Vita.

Cons: On the other hand, no multiplatform games will be played on the thing at all. I've had a 360 since '07. I don't like Sony's controllers and haven't since the Gamecube controller blew it out of the water. Also, I just missed all the good deals for the thing. AND I have bought two pieces of hardware in the last 45 days. Finally, buying a platform this late in life for what still seems like a lot of money is something I'd never condone. I am out of power outlets around the entertainment center - I've had to move my Vita charger and Wii U gamepad away, I guess the fan would be next? It's a real clusterf*ck.

Edit: hmm actually Amazon still has the 250GB model + Uncharted 1 and 2 + InFamous 1 and 2 for $280.. I'd play InFamous.

Get a used one. Get a PS+ subscription. Get Infamous and a bunch of other crap for free for your Vita and PS3.

I have 3 months of PS+, but I don't buy used hardware as a rule. Learned my lesson with the PS2.

Besides, spending $280 vs. $200 isn't the issue. The problem is I don't have the time to be invested in the four platforms I actively use now. Adding a fifth doesn't make a ton of sense. And I'm not even very busy, just I'd have to play games for most of my time while I'm not working and I just don't have the focus for that sometimes.

First review I've seen is IGN's... 9.4/10. Fuuuuuuuudge.

I don't like that guy, but our opinions occasionally align perfectly. I've been working a lot of OT lately >___>

Holy crap, it's almost January 22nd! I can't believe the game comes out in a week. I'm so happy that I pre-ordered that super duper edition. It was so long ago that I feel like I've got a free game coming to me.
