Ninokuni: The Another World (Ghibli + Level 5 RPG) coming to PS3

This is gonna be a really fun one to play with the kids.

No joke. I was thinking about rushing out and making some babies just so I could play this game with them!

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch

That's the English title

I forgot to post this in case people missed it. Apparently they are turning the big-ass manual that came with the DS into a digital version for PS3.

Confirmed for 2012. Namco Bandai is doing the localization. This means nothing to me, but I'm happy it's confirmed for next year.

The trailer from Level 5's Vision event:

I still can't believe how good this game looks. The above trailer shows the white and black witches I believe. I love the cat king.

Oh man, that looks great! I've been waiting for Level 5 to put out something great since Dragon Quest VIII and this looks like it may be it. I'm fine with it being a fairly by-the-numbers JRPG so long as it's this gorgeous and fun to play.

Wow! That looks really pretty. In my household, something like this is a system seller, or would be, if the WiiU weren't coming out next year.

Yeah, I have no PS3 yet. But I could use a Blu-Ray player anyways.... When did they say they're doing the English-translated version?!

Confirmed for next year. No firm date as far as I know.

Namco Bandai localized the Tales, .hack//, and Xenosaga games; not sure about those, but Tales of Vesperia doesn't seem so bad from what I've seen. However, they're also responsible for Eternal Sonata, which has a notoriously horrible localization.

Level-5 posted all of these vids:

I think I'm going to abstain from watching those videos. I've seen a lot already, and I don't want to spoil any more than I already have.

This will be the game that convinces me to get a PS3.

Well, it's in Japanese and from the dev, so I can't imagine it's too spoily outside of looking at things, which I totally get.

Huh, I thought they were already saying late January 2012. I am kinda hoping it's true, since my birthday is in January!

Me too! Getting one hopefully after the holiday rush dies down

This looks so amazing. I might actually be buying this on day 1.

From what I have seen this is what I want my kids to have as their first video game. It just looks magical.

So, here we are in Feb, and there's still no announced release date. Heck, other than a few mentions in "Great RPGs coming in 2012!" type articles, it's pretty much vanished from the news cycle.

I've not seen any magazine mentions of the PS3 release, and my google fu turns up the same 5-odd "Ni No Kuni coming to the US in 2012" articles from last fall. I wonder if the sheer amount of translation necessary has bogged the release down? Or maybe they didn't want to compete with FFXIII-2?

*shrug*

Anyone else spotted new coverage in recent weeks?

Game Informer gave it a page in their previews section, but nothing more specific than 2012 for release.

At this point I hope they're past the point of no return, and I'd rather they take their time than rush to hit a deadline, so I'm not going to fret too much. Although I am very eager, hopefully I'll be too busy playing Xenoblade Chronicles to notice if we don't get it until Fall. I assume they have limited promotion dollars so they probably want to save them until the release is imminent.

Eurogamer is running a story today saying Q1 2013 for Europe. I can't find anything about a US release window yet.

It's a HUUUGE disappointment for me. I don't own a PS3, so I was hoping for a DS release. However, they say it's a PS3 exclusive, so no Ghibli for me, I suppose.

Hurray! It's probably coming out this year, and it's going to have English AND Japanese voiceovers. I'm so glad I won't have to listen to a dub.

Epic Japanese Role-Playing Game Masterwork Comes Together
With Industry-Leading Collaboration

SAN JOSE, Calif., (February 15, 2012) – Leading video games publisher and developer NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. today announced that Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch™ will have a Winter 2012 release in North America exclusively for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. This epic tale of a boy crossing two realities on a quest to find his mother brings together two of Japan's most respected entertainment companies, LEVEL-5 and Studio Ghibli, to create an RPG for the ages.

The unique fantasy adventure is developed by LEVEL-5, the studio behind the smash hits Dragon Quest VIII, Dragon Quest IX, and the Professor Layton series. For the game's characters and animations, LEVEL-5 collaborated with the legendary Studio Ghibli, responsible for countless anime masterpieces including My Neighbour Totoro, Castle in the Sky and Spirited Away. The in-game music comes from the hand of Joe Hisaishi, the composer of the scores to over 100 films including many of Studio Ghibli's greatest productions.

"The development team at LEVEL-5 has worked very hard to ensure that Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is a RPG that fans of video games and traditional animation will remember for years to come. It has been a great honor to collaborate with Studio Ghibli and Joe Hisaishi, and to incorporate all of their experience into a fantastic game," said Akihiro Hino, President and CEO of LEVEL-5. "Our top priority for the Western release of Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is to localize the game with the same level of quality and attention to detail that fans of LEVEL-5 and Studio Ghibli have come to expect."

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is a heart-warming tale of a young boy named Oliver, who embarks on a journey into a parallel world to become a magician in an attempt to bring his mother back from the dead. Along the way Oliver makes new friends and adopts many of the wonderful creatures that inhabit the world, raising them to battle other creatures on his behalf as he takes on formidable enemies.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is scheduled for North American release winter 2012 and will include both English and Japanese voiceovers. For more information about Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, please visit: http://www.namcobandaigames.com.

Yeah, Joystiq offers a similar revelation for the NA market:

Tannhauser'd!

Oh thank goodness, I was starting to worry that the NA release of this game would get canned. And I NEED this game.

Looks like I need to start saving for a PS3.

Wow that's awesome news!

This is a good day.
