Ninokuni: The Another World (Ghibli + Level 5 RPG) coming to PS3

Pages

I posted in the JRPG thread, but this is actually newsworthy enough to make a separate thread that people who wouldn't browse the JRPG thread will see.

Ninokuni: The Another World is an RPG being done by Level 5 (of Dark Cloud and Professor Layton fame) and Studio Ghibli (of My Neighbour Totoro and Spirited Away fame)

It is coming out on the DS but is *also* now going to be on PS3, according to Famitsu.

Why is this a big deal?

Well here the trailer for the DS version - which looks great (gameplay starts about halfway through)

Now I'm picturing what it will look like on the PS3 and drooling.

Better news than anything that came out of E3! \(^^)/

Oh dear, I always thought this game looked awesome but was bummed that it was going to be on the DS. If it's coming out on the PS3, I'm going to have to find a friend with a PS3. That is very good news. The animation in this game deserves better than the DS.

It *still* looks good for the DS, but given a choice between the two for this game, console seems like the obvious one to me.

I said it before, but I still feel this way:

I am surprised the console version didn't go to the Wii.

Epic Mickey is a game that makes me sad about being on the Wii. This feels like redemption. wait... as Garrion333 said:

Two of my favorite producers of entertainment teaming up? Count me in.

I cream everyone's pants!

It is except that Level 5 hasn't released any games on the Wii, but they have done DS (Professor Layton, DQ IX) and PS3 (White Knight Chronicles) games. Go with what you know, right?

Plus, the bluray aspect might've been really appealing to Ghibli. Pure speculation, of course.

Awesome, I love Studio Ghibli. DS seems like the natural platform for this sort of thing.

This looks awesome. And I'm getting a DS soon.

I am, too, given the demographics. It also looks like there's some symbol drawing in this game that I wouldn't be keen on doing with a PS3 controller (Move, though, I'd consider).

I don't have a DS, so I'm quite happy this will be coming to PS3. While White Knight Chronicles turned out to be a pretty big disappointment, I was a huge fan of Dark Cloud 1 & 2 back in the PS2 era. Looking forward to more info on this!

Looks utterly gorgeous. I would love for it on PS3!

I guess this means I wait for the reviews of the two versions before I buy. I was going to get the DS version, but Studio Ghibli in HD... hmmm.

Yeah this is great news, I'm a huge Studio Ghibli fan, but don't play handhelds. Really looking forward to this one, I'm sure my daughter will love it too.

How are they going to do the spellcasting system on PS3? The way I figure it, they have three options:

1) Ditch the drawing element and go with a traditional menu system (lame).
2) Let you draw the symbols using the analog sticks (lamer).
3) Move support.

I am not, repeat not buying a Move for this game. While in theory I'd prefer to have the better graphics of the PS3 version, the spellcasting system is a pretty big draw for me too, so I need to know how they're going to handle that.

That's a good point about the Move. I already have a Playstation Eye, so I'm part of the way to having a Move, but I have no intention of getting one anytime soon. LBP2 is perhaps the only game I might get it for ... other than this. If this game comes to the PS3 and utilizes the Move in an effective way I have no problem (at this point) in buying a Move controller just for this game. That is how great my Ghibli love is.

It looks absolutely gorgeous on the PS3. The cell-shading is simply unreal.

Holy cow. That's some of the best cel shading I've ever seen.

This game better come to the west or I'll be very sad

If it doesn't I'm learning Japanese.

Three cheers for giant overworld maps! I hate that they aren't considered cool anymore. An overworld map easily trumps my dislike of Pet Job games.

Seconded.

I am not a JRPG fan, usually because of the stereotyped characters and bland or rehashed stories, but I am a Ghibli fan, and they rarely (if ever) throw their character designs into a corner, and their stories are always good. I would like to play this.

Sweet Jesus!

I don't care if the main character is an eight year old boy, this is the kind of stuff I've been waiting for all gen!

I think my dream game would have this quality of animation but be Zelda. If a Zelda game came out that looked like this... I would get in line now.

Edited to make sense

That would be...I don't even want to think about it. I just love how cell-shading looks. Wind Waker is still one of the best looking games ever imo.

Great, now I need to buy a PS3
