Depends on if you're in Chapel Hill or Carrboro.

No, you'll just be treated as a baby murdering social pariah for not having kids of your own.

Just looking at the real estate listings. Holy mfs does $300k buy a lot of house out that way. Around here, it will barely buy you a 2br townhouse with 100 sq feet of lawn.

Yeah. 300K will bring you a monster McMansion in a pretty nice neighborhood.

She jests (but only slightly).

In what general part of the Triangle is your prospective employer located? (E.g., the Park itself, downtown Raleigh?)

If you make the trip, will the wife be joining? Muahaha.

It's in the water. Or maybe the moonshine. I keep getting them confused.

Screw the McMansion. I'm seeing acreage I wouldn't be anywhere near able to afford around these parts.

The office is in the Park proper. And it looks like the interview is Monday so I don't think I'll be joining you.

Acreage just means more grass to mow. Having just bought a house for around $300K, I can tell you it'll depend on the town you want. In Cary you won't get a McMansion in a nice neighborhood, but you'll still get a very nice house. Apex and Morrisville you could probably get a McMansion. In towns further out, you could get the acreage to match your house size.

I fantasize about having a Paleocompound complete with vicious Belgian Malinois and long dirt driveway that screams teen slasher flick. It just fits so well with my personality.

On the up side, should the Apocalypse arrive, we would have a very good Paleo/GWJer compound already started.

Sounds perfect for trying out J.S.Joust, but I'm not sure the weather would permit it. And it's recommended not to mix it with alcohol.

Not entirely the direction I was going in. I'm not exactly a prepper.

I was more thinking of constructing my own Tucker and Dale vacation home.

I would still like to hook up with as many of you as I can while I am down that way. I will probably be staying an extra day so I can take in the place and consider if I can handle a relo. Can folks pm me contact info?

What days will you be around?

Sunday night through Tuesday evening.

Edit: and if I can score crash space, I might be able to convince the wife I should stay a day or two longer.

If you don't mind felines, I have a spare bedroom, live super close to the airport & in the middle of RTP itself.

Generous, but I will be traveling alone and the wife would kill me telepathically if I racked at female's house irrespective of intention.

What about a married couple's house? And will it get you enough days to make the mini S&T?

That works. I will be staying at an old colleague's house on Monday night (he's married and has a place north of Raleigh), but might be able to convince the wife I have reason to stay if I actually do have reason to stay. I figure if I can get some business networking in (as well as some research about the area to determine if I can stand you lot), I can probably make a reasonable case that I have no other more pressing engagements.

Cool. I gotta run it by stone when he gets home but I don't think it'll be a problem.

coolio

thanks.

Done deal. Just let us know your schedule once you make your plans.

Very cool.

So, here is the deal.

I drive in on Sunday night and will be staying at a company provided hotel before my 2 hour interview on Monday at 2pm. I will be free that afternoon and evening until about 8 when I have a meeting with an old colleague for rounds of Makers Mark and Woodford Reserve. I will be staying at his place afterwards.

If the interview goes well enough that I feel optimistic about the outcome, I will stick around and talk to my colleague's real estate guy to get a better feel for the city and its surrounding neighborhoods on Tuesday. If I blow it, I will crawl back North like a disillusioned carpetbagger.

If at all possible, I would like to research other companies and possible opportunities as well. Primarily, I am interested in technology firms with openings that have to do with process improvement. If I succeed in this, I might be able to convince the wife that a longer stay is warranted.

PM me contact details. I have already contacted QS thusly.

PM sent!

No issue, figured I'd offer and it was up to you after that...

Thanks anyway. Like I said though, the range on her psionic lance is measured in light years.

Good luck!

I spoke with Paleo this afternoon. He did pretty well with the phone interview. My first impression: I think he's a decent candidate for this area. We'll see how he does face to face.

I'm still a bit concerned about some car vandalism that I've heard about from other sources...

Woah, wait, is he interviewing with you? I'm so confused.

I wait with bated breath for the ShivGee Rumble in the RTP!

No. I just gave him the rundown.

I am a little concerned that the sound of the above reminds me of the "neighborhood interview" my family had to endure in 1972. Hmmm.

I will leave the shivgees and snow shovels in Baltimore.
