Petersen is at Wazzu now, though. Does that mean D is the top paid guy in the conference?

Oops, right, duh. I was comparing the new salary to last year's chart without engaging my brain.

Yes, unless some other MWC coach got a big raise, D is the top dog (pun intended) in the MW.

Our QB who got pulled last year after doctor's found a pre-existing head trauma got cleared to return to non-contact drills yesterday. Today we found out that the transferring Oklahoma QB Kendal Thompson is coming here. I think there's also a former Wyoming QB transfer in the mix, as well as our walk-on backup from last year. Now we have almost have as many QBs as former OCs.

Also more grumbling about using the Utes name. Will this strike fear into our opponents' hearts?

Actually they'll fit in fine with the Pac-12. A conference dominated by Ducks and where we have teams like the Sun Devils and Beavers. I love the quirkiness of the Pac-12. This makes Utah me feel better about Utah's membership in the expanded conference.

And we could have a new motto: We will bite your sister.

Also the above QB commentary above makes more sense when I add in the two QBs who redshirted last year, one of which we thought was going to start. Now it might be neither.

Old news by now, but the NCAA rules committee unanimously told Bert to win a conference game before appointing himself the arbiter of game speed:

If you're not already listening to The Solid Verbal, now is a great time to check it out. Every week they're doing a spring preview with a different conference, bringing in a writer who covers that conference.

Of course this only benefits those outside of the SEC, because no one in the SEC cares about a different conference.

Don't be silly. How does the SEC know it's superior without periodically glancing down at the lesser conferences?

Podcast spoiler: Cal gets predicted to be most improved in the PAC.

I was thinking it was time for a new thread. I'm happy to start it, but maybe someone else would have some ideas for good stuff to link in the OP? I thought Enix brought a lot of good overall information to us last year.

Definitely would prefer one thread, and not a thread per week, where people inevitably lose track.

New thread needs to have the official playoff rules and committee listed. So we know what the hell is going on this fall.

It probably is time, as spring practices have begun everywhere.

Well given we had 0 FBS wins last year, 1 such win this year would be an infinite % improvement.

Yeah, Fed, I think you should go ahead and make a new thread.

I'm cool with keeping it at one thread for the entire season. There's no point in starting a thread each week when the two basic topics of conversation are THE SEC RULEZ and THE SEC DROOLZ. I'm not sure we mentioned another conference all season.

As for the OP, you can always update it as you find stuff. It's still pretty early.*

* (Yeah, yeah, I know, spring football, blah blah blah. There are only about 4-5 states where that actually matters, and I don't happen to live in one.)

I was trying to nominate you to start the thread, Enix. I thought you might actually put some good stuff in the OP.

I'm hoping we are going to move into a new age of less conference baloney (maybe some good-natured ribbing, see above) now that the SEC has lost a recent championship and we've entered the realm of playoffs. A lot of the anxiety on both sides should be greatly reduced by the move to four teams, though more would be better.

Fine.

Official 2014-15 thread: NCAA college football 2014-15: Spring football awaits!

Almost posted this in the NFL thread, but this one seemed more appropriate.
