Pokemon Gotta Catch-Em-All

Hadn't heard of that, no. A couple freezes and the DS being unable to read the cart, but that's my old DSLite and not the game.

You might indeed look into storing your Pokemon elsewhere if the problem persists. Maybe google the issue and see if others are having permanent troubles.

By the way, I don't feel like looking back now and probably read it on my phone, but weren't people talking about catching the elemonkeys on a specific route? I thought they could only be received by that dude that gives you one, and they'd be different based on your starting Pokemon.

How hard would it be to get my hands on a Ditto? Looking to start a Pokemon mill with a few others.

According to this site that I've been using, some of those Monkeys can be found inside the Pinwheel forest, though I have not yet discovered them.

I got the Fire monkey from the guy who hooks you up, but I was able to get the other two by chasing the shaking grass in the forest. I know my son got one of them that way, too.

Dittos (99% of any old Pokemon, actually) can only be found or traded for after the Pokemon League. So like, end-game.

So I got to wait for shaking grass, huh? I wonder if there's anything that makes them appear more common.

Every shaking grass I ever see is that Abudino chick or whatever...

But Cut cuts down entire freakin trees in 1 hit outside of battle without even leaving a stump behind! Why can't I do the same to a dinky little Sewaddle?!

Because Sewaddle is way cute to but cut! (BTW I am depressed mine upgraded to some ugly thing with a leaf cloak)

Don't worry, it evolves again.

You can't make it appear more often, but using repel items of varying strength will keep you from getting in other fights while waiting for them to spawn. Makes everything related to that mechanic a lot quicker.

Audino is usually 80-90% spawn on shaking grass, with the other few making up the other 20%

@Yonder I bagged that Sawk for you. I'm probably busy all tomorrow but can get it to you sometime Sunday afternoon if you'd like. Maybe from my fancy new 3DS!

Awesome, thanks Blind.

As far as shaking grass goes, I find a nice long stretch of grass and run along right next to it. That usually triggers a shaking grass pretty soon, and it's a lot faster without the random fights.

Warning, with the DS and DS Lite, if you use the wireless in a new device, your friend code is invalidated. Really cute of Nintendo to do it that way, huh?

Yeah, I've had that issue a few times with warranty-replacement systems. I've been strongly considering buying a copy of Pokemon White, I guess if I do I'll use that one with the 3DS and my copy of Black with the DS Lite. Thanks for the reminder.

Well...sh*t. I haven't been able to use wireless itself yet on my DS (could never connect to anyone's wireless access point) but I did use the IR to exchange friend codes with a pal of mine. So now if I get a 3DS (does it have WPA? Can I use it for my router?) I can't use the wireless stuff?

When it invalidates the old friend code does it give you a new one? That wouldn't be too bad.

Damn. I need to get me a Yamask, that is messed up.

I just caught one. I feel so dirty right now.

Yes.

Ccesarano, I hear the 3DS supports both wpa and wpa2, so you should be okay if you're just losing the one friend.

I got thinking though, and there's no reason really to use the 3DS over a DS for this. The software probably won't even acknowledge your unified friends list.

Well, my DS isn't getting traded in but handed down to my niece. So there's that.

Yay I have a female Archen! (That may have required a dozen reloads outside the museum.) I'm going to start breeding them for trading, so keep that in mind when you

Spoiler:

choose your fossil in the relic castle, Archen is the plume fossile, badass turtle dude is the... cover fossil? Something else.

When do you get the ability to trade pokemon? I've just beat the first gym leader.

Also, does anyone find moves like Leer and growl useful? It always seems to me that I do better just attacking both turns instead of using one of those moves.

You can trade as soon as you get to the first Pokecenter I believe. And as to using Leer/Growl type moves, I tend to get rid of them for attack moves as soon as I can. I prefer to have my pokemon get four attack moves of different types (if possible). For instance, my hydreigon's moves are Crunch (Dark), Dragon Pulse (Dragon), Body Slam (Normal), and Flamethrower (Fire).

Eventually you want a few status effects for sure. Toxic, Confuse Ray, and Thunder Wave are the best probably. The latter two are important for catching hard or legendary pokemon.

A select few stat down moves can be useful. If you're up against something way more powerful, accuracy lowering or evasion rising moves can turn sure defeat into an actual contest.

My rule is usually 3 attacks per monster and one wild card. There are 17 types, so 3 attacks per allows you to cover all of them plus one twice.

I'm with Blind Evil. I used to regulate all four slots to attack moves, but the last couple games I started experimenting with status effect moves. Honestly, they make it possible to NOT have to grind so much, though you still need to grind.

I now have a half dozen little Archen babies for free to a good home.

Right now they are all chirping and lonely in their box.

As soon as I can figure out how it all works, I'll take one. I have no clue what I'm doing, so any extra is good.

Virizion is such a pain in the ass to catch! Curse you Giga Drain!

I'll be around the house a while if you want to grab that Sawk, Yonder.

Dhelor, do you know if Cobalion or Virizion are any good? I normally don't use legendaries but you get them awfully early here. They're lower level than the five in my team when caught <,<

I haven't used Virizion much, but Cobalion is awesome. He's my team MVP. It has a lot of resistances, one immunity (Poison, so meh), and only three weaknesses - Fire, Fighting, and Ground. Virizion on the other hand has 5 weaknesses, one of them being Flying which both it's types is weak against, making it a 4x effective move. Terrakion, the last part of the legendary trio, has 6 weaknesses by the way (none of them 4x though).

I sure wish there was some way to filter out anyone looking for Reshiram/Zekron on the GTS. I feel like half of all the results are this.

Oh, and I'm sure everyone has already gotten theirs, but if anyone's in need of Oshawotts, I gots 'em.

Just got in, and I should be around for awhile as well. I also have a Boldore to trade to trigger the level-up, and I should have a... I-Beam fighting guy... soon too. Message me on Steam (if you're there, didn't see you) or I'll check here every now and then.

I would love an Oshawott! All I have that's really of value is Archens, but I could also give you pretty much anything else that came up before the electric gym.
