So, this might be something that gets merged with the Videos thread, but I thought it deserved its own topic.
A few years back an orchestra director in Paraguay set up a program to teach poor children how to play instruments. Problem was, they didn't have enough instruments for all the kids who wanted to learn. And when I say poor, we're talking poorest of the poor. These are kids who live in a garbage dump, whose parents eked out an existence recycling things from the trash. So when they were told they needed more instruments, they built them out of discarded parts. The resulting sound is kind of jaw-droppingly quirky and beautiful.
It's part of some GE contest. I don't have any connection to the people who made it (I think. My mom sent it to me, so maybe I'm just not recognizing the names.)
