Where should we go on our honeymoon?

Update: we booked our honeymoon yesterday. Since my fiancee only has a week off in February, we decided to go on a city-trip right after our wedding and go on a 'real' vacation next summer.

We looked into Venice, as it's their famous carnival that time of the year, but it was just too expensive. For half that price we're going to Lisbon for four days.

I'm really going to lobby for Charleston for the summer though.

One last time: thanks a billion for all the great advice!

skimmed the entire thread, so I might be +1 someone and not even know it.

First and foremost, congratz!!

second, the wife and I decided to hit a place we would probably never see under any other circumstance and hit SE Asia. Not only is it amazing; its one of the few places where you can really get the most out of your dollar's worth ($2 foot massage? yes please.)

South America is the other option in terms of economy. Stay away from Brazil and your Euros, when converted to local currency, will last you ridiculously.

People are incredibly warm and welcoming, and the tourist culture is very well focused on European travelers (both SA and SEA).

The food in SEA was a bit too different for our liking, but SA has a vast and reknown cousine. Peru, Argentina, Colombia, you name it.

As a last piece of advice; the wife and I looked for a place where we could balance out different activities; do a bit of culture, some sight seeing (city and town wise), lots of eating and have the option to ignore the culture part and throw yourselves on a beach nearby. The more we juggled these three and throw in some relaxing time, the more we looked forward to try the next recommended thing.

Enjoy!!!

---edit---

Just read the post before me and burst out laughing. Seems I might have skimmed one too many.

Enjoy the trip, last I heard Lisbon is a lovely place and people are incredibly friendly.

Grats - I think deferring the "real" vacation until the summer makes a lot of sense. You'll get better weather almost no matter what destination you choose.

Have fun in Lisbon!

I think you chose right. I was in Venice this summer and wasn't impressed. Words I thought I'd never hear myself say.
