Onion spoof proclaiming NK dictator "Sexiest Man Alive" printed as real news in China
A recent article by The Onion that named North Korean demonic dictator Kim Jong-Un "Sexiest Man Alive" was picked up by the Hong Kong press, where they disclaimed that it was a humor website. Then the Chinese state run media site Yangtse.com, Beijing’s Guangming Daily, and then the flagship paper of the Communist Party, the People’s Dailywebsite posted it, who removed the satire disclaimer and substituted a 55 image slideshow of li'l Kim.
From The Onion,
With his devastatingly handsome, round face, his boyish charm, and his strong, sturdy frame, this Pyongyang-bred heartthrob is every woman’s dream come true. Blessed with an air of power that masks an unmistakable cute, cuddly side, Kim made this newspaper’s editorial board swoon with his impeccable fashion sense, chic short hairstyle, and, of course, that famous smile.
Since learning their newfound cred in the Chinese media, The Onion has updated the article with a link to "Our friends at the People's Daily in China, a proud Communist subsidiary of The Onion, Inc. Exemplary reportage, comrades."
