NFL 2012 Week 13 Thread

There was an offensive pass interference on the Skins and a horse collar tackle that were questionable. Those were evened out I think by a ticky tack hold or 2 called on the Giants.

The Giants maybe had one more drive self destruct but the Skins certainly had theirs too. I think both teams could have easily scored twice more if not for those crucial penalties.

Again, a very even game. The Giants forced a couple of turnovers. One ended up backfiring. The other saved their hide. The Skins countered that with a sack and a couple of hurried incomplete throws.

The Patriots are hurting on the injury department before two of their biggest games of the season. It looks like the definite outs for the Texans game are all pretty major players:

Julian Edelman - Likely to be on IR so they just picked up Stallworth
Chandler Jones
Logan Mankins
Rob Gronkowski - Which I hadn't realized until recently has been the biggest redzone threat in the NFL since the start of his career. Hes close to 1:1 for touchdowns per game.

Then you have Aaron Hernandez just coming back but is clearly not 100%

Don't worry, the Texans defense is pretty banged up. I expect Brady to pick them apart, unfortunately. We're working out LBs from off the street right now, and JoJo is questionable again. The next few weeks are going to be...interesting.

Maybe things will even out then. A depleted offense versus a depleted defense. I expect the game to be pretty close. Hopefully there will be some snow!

I remember 0 pass interference's of significance and especially of the nature where the refs pretty much hand a team 50 yards on some minor hand checking.

There was one in the first half that was fairly lame.. lead to a Giants TD... wasnt 50 yards though but was on a 2 and 16.

I don't remember which play this is, but since there was a play where Bennett was practically molested........led to a Giants punt...........we'll call it even.

*EDIT*
2nd and 16 at WSH 49 (Shotgun) E.Manning pass incomplete deep middle to H.Nicks (C.Griffin). PENALTY on WAS-C.Griffin, Defensive Pass Interference, 21 yards, enforced at WAS 49 - No Play.

1st and 10 at WSH 28 E.Manning pass incomplete deep right to M.Bennett. PENALTY on NYG-S.Locklear, Offensive Holding, 10 yards, enforced at WAS 28 - No Play.

You make it sound like they got the ball at the 1. Giants still had to deal with a 1st and 20 the following play. Like I said, I can't comment because I don't remember the play. I'm not sure why you have it in your head that the Giants get a ton of breaks because Eli Manning is their QB. Trust me, I wish they did, it wouldn't age me 30 years to watch just 1 quarter of Giants football, let alone a season of games.

Trying to play Monday Tuesday Morning Mid-Afternoon QB:

Redskins get a running into the kicker penalty on 4th and 16, which then makes it a 4th and 11. Do you try to go for the 1st down then or do you still kick the ball away? Chris "Maddog" Russo is killing the Giants for this. Personally, I can see his point, but I can't kill Coughlin for trusting his defense, which should come up with a stop in that situation.

PA Pass on 2nd and 8 for 17 yards was brilliant by Shanahan, executed perfectly by RG3. I was conflicted to compliment the play when it happened, since it pretty much killed the Giants chances to win the game. Alfred Morris should be in talks for Rookie of the Year as well, 3rd and 3 to end the game, he clearly wanted it more than the Giants.

You need help.. how did you infer all that from my post.. The Giants are the best.. Eli is a god.. There are you feeling less inadequate now?

lol

Is he doing it on purpose now? lol

That's just the mind control wearing off.

Packers are bringing back Ryan Grant as Starks might be out for the year.

In positive news that guy named Charles Woodson might be back this week.

Partly why I'm still optimistic is that a bunch of key players have been in and out all year. The question is are they the types of injuries where you can come back and be near 100% or they the niggling stuff that needs an offseason.

Last year Andre Johnson was a good example of an injury that wasn't going to rule him out but he was never going to be 100%.

Nelson and Mathews have hamstrings. Nelson came back last 2 weeks just to be out again. Shields has an ankle which can be problematic.

Woodson and Jennings on the other hand have a good chance to come back not in 100% game shape but no repeat of the same injuries.

Eli's not a god, far from it. Also, thanks for personally insulting me. Funny how other people have made negative comments about the Giants and I've never had a problem with it, yet apparently I feel less inadequate when the Giants get mocked. You've stated numorous times that you feel both Eli and Peyton get brakes. If anyone is feeling inadequate, it's you.

I wish there was an ignore feature on this site. I could ignore you, you could ignore me, and everyone would be happy. I'll try to do it the old fashion way, just read your horrible opinions and roll my eyes.

Yeah, that was huge. 3rd and 3 and he got 6 with the last 3-4 all from him continuing to churn his legs. It was a very big game for him.

4th and 16? Well you've stymied the Skins the whole quarter and all you need is a field goal. Even if they score a TD, it is still a one possession game (unless they stupidly go for 2 and open themselves up for a loss) and you have already proven that Manning can hit any number of targets for a last minute long TD. (don't think for a second I didn't believe this was going to happen.)

You illustrated my point.. you take this far to seriously. Funny how I can enjoy Eagles games with Giants and/or Cowboys fans watching with me and we trash talk endlessly yet no one gets butt hurt.

edit

Unless you were joking the whole time!? Then well played sir!!

And it wasn't like any big surprise what the play was going to be either. All they had to do was stack the box and they did. Even still, they couldn't stop him.

Once again, the Giants seem pretty vulnerable to the run.

Giant's have shown again and again that they will do just enough in the regular season to remind people that they are the best in the NFC...and then enough to keep their Sports Radio hosts busy during the season.. because 16-0 isnt all the interesting in NYC.

But come playoff time.. I've seen nothing from any of the other NFC teams to make me believe the Giants won't beat them at their own homes.

Colin Kaepernick?

I hope anyway.

Honestly I think Kendall Hunter being out hurts as much as anything. He was giving Gore a nice break and making some solid plays to keep the offense on the field lately. Brandon Jacobs had 4 carries for 6 yards. And Gore had only his second 20+ carry game of the season this week.

And on top of that, if David Akers keeps missing clutch FGs, the 49ers might not even make the NFC Championship game again this year.

Has LaMichael James seen the field yet?

I'm not big on rookie QB's in the playoffs...unless you are named Tom Brady and can magically fumble..but then not.

/still bitter

Did someone say magic fumble?

There's no Week 14 thread yet, so I'm posting this here. I can't believe a commissioner could be more wrong than David Stern last week. I was wrong.

Schiano, the man who is making kneel downs more dangerous to players, is the brain-trust on this idea to "make kickoffs safer".

This proposed system is going to reward the team that finds itself down by 9 points and with the ball with 2 minutes to play. Now they can score a TD to go down by 2 and get the ball right back. Granted, with a 4th and 15, but that's not an impossible obsticle.

You want to illiminate kickoffs, give each team the ball at the 20. If you like punting, then force teams to line up in punt formation and punt from the 50.

Goodell is looking to destroy the game of football. Eventually, tackling will be illegal.

His grammar is certainly the worst.

Seems like the 4th & 15 is much bigger advantage to any team that is behind. Are punts all that much safer than kick-offs?

I have a solution for making the game safer.

Dont.

Just admit that football really f*cks people up and back compensate the guys from previous eras. Then make all the current guys buy into a system that best helps cover them for their lives. Whatever make up of pensions medical etc that makes the most sense.

Still leaves the issue of what to do about future players not playing because of the risk. (the boxing problem)

Figure out how to make the game safer through minor changes to the rules and massive equipment research.

I think players can live with being borderline crippled. Issue is more with their brains turning to pudding.

Goodell has to think about future players, though. As it stands, I wouldn't let my son play football. Love the sport, love my son far more. There's far too much evidence that the sport causes the kind of repeated head trauma that has shockingly bad effects later in life, and there are a number of studies that show it's even worse when those concussions happen during high school. High schools aren't going to change until colleges change, which won't change until the NFL changes, and something has to be done or the sport will die off.

I'm not alone in this, I know lots of parents who wouldn't let their kids play football. There will simply be fewer and fewer people playing in the future unless the sport gets safer. Goodell has to make proposals for significant changes if he wants the league to have a long-term future.

Go figure, no one had claimed the name "jim" yet.

And now no one ever will.

He's dead, Jim.

I love per-season!

Only one time a season? That's a rough dry spell in-between.
