Far Cry 3

And so begins the collective butt-hurt that begins with a game that exceeds the capabilities of years-old PC hardware...

I feel I have the right to complain since at this exact moment I can't afford a new graphics card thus I'm stuck with my Geforce 9800 GT which works like a charm on so many games but it seems like it is about to get slaughtered.

Heck I've been telling my parents over and over again that I need a new graphics card and put it number 1 on my Christmas list but it seems like the 300 dollar price point for the Geforce 660 TI is too rich for the parents of a college student.

It seems like my decision to or not to play Far Cry 3 has been ripped from my hands till I get a better card.

However, that chart is based on max settings, is it not? What's to prevent you from running at medium? Hell. Crysis, Far Cry 2, and other PC power beasts look great at medium settings.

Arthur Gies also thinks this game is amazing, and he usually has the same tastes as me. Consider me pumped.

That has me convinced as well. This game wasn't even on my radar until I saw all the positive reviews. It looks like their strategy worked on me.

A 'quick look' from Gamespot. I's gamespot UK so those in the US may be redirected. I was waiting for a Gaintbomb quick look but I think GB are recuperating from the Wii U launch.

It gives a great feel for the game and definitely makes it look like they've kept a ton from Far Cry 2. The second guy, when he turns up, is a tad annoying in the way he sounds incredulous at every mechanic but perhaps he was trying to be funny...

Very excited for this release. I am hoping that it maintains the varied landscape found in Far Cry 2 and doesn't become static jungle terrain. The sub-Saharan Africa setting allowed the game to go from steppe to desert to jungle to mountain top very quickly. Early videos just show more jungle than anything.

If I've finished AC3 by the time this comes out, I may have to grab it. Otherwise I'm waiting till xmas.

The extra guy was annoying....i'd fire him if he worked for me. Who wants to listen to that.

Nevertheless, when the primary actually got to show off stuff, it was interesting. There's a lot added on here tot he farcry 2 model and some annoyances removes (Malaria, instantly respawning outposts all over when yer out of sight).

Super stoked for this. I'm actually replaying me some farcry 2 while we wait. It is still a good game aside from the outposts, but you learn how to quickly deal with and avoid them with prejudice when possible.

I'm glad that judging by the reviews, this game is gonna deliver. Count me in the camp that loved FC2 ... the story elements in this new game do seem pretty cliche from what I've read, but I'm looking forward to just getting out there and telling my own story in the jungle and tolerating the scripted parts.

I was a big fan of FC2, and I had dismissed this game as it had sounded like they were veering away from what made FC2 great. However, the reviews are starting to sway me back. Dammit - my pile is big enough as it is!

I caved on a pre-order. Calling it an early birthday present. Normally I'd wait for a GB review, but the consistency of good reviews around this game is exciting.

I really really hope they've done away with the aim acceleration issues that have kept me from playing much of any other Far Cry console game. I'm so looking forward to this game, but if the aiming doesn't feel good it's a lost cause.

Either way, I'm buying it next week. Either I'll play it or watch a friend play, so I'm in.

Totalbiscuit has his WTF is video up. Looks pretty great.

I just finished watching this and came here to post. The game looks really, really good. I didn't appreciate his digs at Skyrim (a game I love), but I did see what he was getting at. It does look like Ubi got almost everything right this time around -- the shooting, the world, and the story being the most important elements. I'm definitely picking this up as soon as I can.

PS: There's a pretty funny moment around the 20-21 minute mark that's worth watching.

My favorite moment was just after the 26 minute mark when he uses a fun way to take out guards in an outpost

But yeah, the bit between 20-21 minutes is pretty funny.

The way grass clips through the car might be the only actual problem I have with this game.

Hell, I'm gonna be boatin' it anyway.

Fantastic video. Yes, that moment 20-21 minutes in is quite amusing.

I just saw this, too. I didn't play FC 1 or 2, so FC3 wasn't really on my radar, but TB's video changed that. Now I want it.

Fingers crossed that it gets discounted during the Steam winter sale.

I'd be very surprised if it does. It comes out the beginning of December, so less than a month would be very fast for a discount. That said, I have had this game on pre-order for months now, and I don't care paying full price for it. I loved FC2, and this looks to improve on it in almost every way. If it's as good as every review indicates, it might even wrestle GOTY from Mass Effect 3 from me - no mean feat, let me tell you.

Yup.

FC2 knocked my socks off in a big, BIG way so a full-price purchase is a no-brainer for me. I bargain hunt and wait for price drops for the bulk of my purchases, but some IPs have carte blanche for guilt free Day One (Elder Scrolls, Forza, GTA, etc.).

So happy FC3 turned out well.

Point to note. You get Far Cry 3 for free with many new AMD Videocards

I'm still pretty sad about no physical map.

So glad they kept the fire and the fact that the fire gets out of control. It was always amazing to see and sometimes added another dimension to a fight were you, and the enemies, were dodging a wall of flames and the odd explosion.

Just occasionally you had to walk home because the car you came in had been caught in the conflagration.

Yeah, that was always a nice touch. I'll miss the "friend" system as well. That made for some fun escapes.

I just pre-ordered on Steam (I can't help myself). For those interested, the game's already available to pre-load. Downloading now. Surprisingly, it's only 8GB.

So the game got released last night. It went from being available on December 5th, to available now. I'm kinda tempted to buy it now... but I'm still playing Assassin's Creed 3...

Crap... What to do...

Huh? It's still showing as December 4 on Amazon.

Edit: oh wait - you're probably in the UK or something, right?
