Far Cry 3

Ubisoft games on Steam still use UPlay - but they are not visible in your UPlay client outside Steam. You cannot register Steam games independently from Steam with UPlay. Steam purchased Ubisoft games only run through Steam (and Steam's UPlay version).

If you only use UPlay, only non-Steam games will show up (purchased via non-Steam retailers/websites or direct from Ubisoft Store).

Back to the game: yes. Everything you all said. Fun and amazing.

I had my reservations, loving Far Cry 2 for being bold and different. Far Cry 3 is visually more like Far Cry 1 but with more Borderlands 2 or Dead Island style of game mechanics - candy on top of candy. Shoot, loot, jump, fly, run, swim ...

What surprised me besides the ridiculous story (not finished it yet), is the hunting. I love it. Hunting Tapir at night while being hunted by a tiger myself! Or killing a dear and skinning it, while suddenly out of the bushes comes a Komodo and kills me!

And I used to laugh with others about those people, who bought "Deer Hunter" and such games in the early PC days. Now, after Skyrim, and Assassin's Creed, I don't want to play anything else, almost. Happy hunting, Jasons!

It makes me want to buy new graphics card. Last game that made me do it was Far Cry 2. (Which probably helps explain why it's high time for new card anyway.)

Does everybody's mini-map and large map show all the loot chests and hidden items? I looked in the store and found that you could buy loot maps, which I haven't, and was wondering if my game was bugged or something. It takes out a lot of the exploration.

Other than that the game is awesome.

You see all nearby loot chests by default, maybe that's what's happening to you.[/quote]

For some reason the loot chests, and all other hidden items were showing up on my main map. I was able to goto the map and disable those from showing up but that setting does not save when I restart the game. I think it's a bug.

If you've gotten the Gunslinger Takedown skill and have had the tutorial confuse you, hey, I was there, too. It's the right mouse button, not the left.

Ha! I found out the hard way about that perk. I tried to do the knife throw takedown but ended up in a shootout with an outpost as a result.

I beat the game. Somewhere around 16 hours I think. It was a fun ride. Not a perfect game, mind you, but a lot of fun.

Both antagonists are really interesting, but the game left me wanting more on that front.

Edit: Also, Ubisoft still has a big boner for Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now.

Lol, I'm at 10 hours and only just finished the third mission. I probably should do some more side missions, but wandering around the island is just so much fun.

I also punched a shark. May the developer who put that feature into the game get a bonus and a Ferrari.

Pre-ordered this on Sunday -- looking forward to playing it when it releases here in the States (e.g., tomorrow). Avoiding spoilers, but ready to punch sharks.

So my free copy was actually from Ubisoft directly.. I redeemed it on their website.. I downloaded their UbiPlay client and installed that but no games appear under My Games to preload or download.. including the Free Copy of Assassins Creed 3 I got from some other video card.. so this Ubiplay client is seperate from the Digitial Distribution on the Ubisoft website? Thats beyond dumb.. at least EA consolidated "most" of my digital content I had over the years into Origin.

Everything I'm reading is making me consider getting this before XCom...

However, I've been skimming filthily for a while now, and I don't think anyone has answered this question: does FC3 get rid of the respawning of enemies from FC2? That's what broke FC2 for me, ultimately.

That's what broke FC2 for me too! And yes, it's fixed. Once you clear an outpost it's clear for good as far as I can tell.

It may have to do with Uplay, but this is one of the few bigger titles that hasn't been up for pre-loading. Rest of the world, how big is the install? I've seen somewhere between 6 and 8 gigs.

I preloaded on Steam. It was about 8GB.

I just checked the store page and it looks like it isn't unlocking until around noon EST tomorrow. Is that normal? I can actually stay up a bit late tonight and thought I'd be able to play at midnight. /sadpanda

Good to see a game finally unlock in Europe before States

Enemies do respawn, but much more slowly and there are no annoying roadblocks that you continually have to get around. The best way to keep the numbers of enemies down is to take over outposts -- once you do that, your allies inhabit the outpost and the surrounding area.

For me, the outposts and outpost assassination missions are the best part of the game. The story missions are fine, but tend to be more on rails and use typically annoying video game tropes (corridor fire fights, defend against waves of enemies, boss fights, protect an NPC, QTEs, etc).

I've played for hours and have only opened up about half the map so far. I don't know how replayable the game is, but it'll certainly give you a fun and lengthy first run.

I see you're right, I just couldn't find that information anywhere on Steam.

Yeah I've cleared the whole north island of both - very fun, and impressive that they manage to make them each stand out as separate locations (not just cookie-cutter bases like in Just Cause 2).

One thing I'd recommend - don't ignore the idol collectibles just because the don't offer too much tangible rewards, a lot of them lead you into some really cool little hidden locations and areas that are often worth the trip for the scenery alone.

Actually they do offer nice rewards. You get useful signature weapons like very powerful shotgun and sniper rifle to show up in the shop.

I've seen so much of this game in the last week, and I want it so bad.

Duuuuude!!! This I did not know. Also, are there more weapons? In the shop I only have access to 2 sniper rifles... do more unlock later, or is that it?

True, but I tend to favour the silenced stuff so I haven't really used those much.

I don't think there are more than what you see in the general weapon menus but there seem to be plenty of unique ones that unlock as you go. Got a pretty sweet silenced submachine gun and pistol from doing enough side stuff

What side stuff? Like the wanted or animal hunt missions?

I've been doing just mostly side stuff. Only beat story mission 3 so far and mostly it's just been collecting relics and climbing towers etc, with an absolute crapload of hunting. Actually it's safe to say that 75% of my time has been exploring and hunting.

Really looking forward to these other weapons now.

Dang it! I too was hoping to burn the midnight oil... by burning tropical life with my flamethrower.

What really is the point of delaying it until midday?

I'm not sure. Help America's economy by making everyone get a good night's rest? This and AC3 American Revolution: Ubisoft are such patriots.

Yep, that put me over the edge. Pre-order is done. I'll pre-load it overnight and start playing tomorrow.

And I'm taking off work Friday.

Can any ferners who have been playing the game discuss the difficulty? I've read normal is relatively easy. Would you suggest starting on a higher difficulty?

I think hard is fun. It's not unfair and makes the consequences of breaking stealth a little more troublesome (i.e. you have to take cover--no rambo-ing for you). It also forces you to be more tactical since a couple of the enemy types (heavies) can wreck you in an open fight.

You can change the difficulty whenever you want. I originally thought it was limited, but after mission 3, it comes up in a nice big tutorial box saying that you can change it whenever you want. I'm on the middle one, but I'm probably going to put it on Hard just to make it a bit tougher. Not like it will really matter as a knife will kill the enemy with one hit no matter the difficulty.

It's funny, I've got all those great guns and most of my enemies die by the knife. Except tigers they get a bazillion bullets to the head... although most of them get sprayed into the jungle as I run away screaming!
