Far Cry 3

Every animal in this game is its own unique brand of bastard.

FYI--I've played about ten hours of this in two days (!) and have only played three story missions (!).

I got addicted to climbing towers and messing up enemy outposts. So. much. fun.

The outposts are a lot of fun. This game gives you an awesome arsenal of weapons. The skills you unlock also open up a lot of options.

Just got it all installed and played for about an hour so far. Holy crap this is incredible. Amazingly smooth and just the way it throws you into the story is just awesome.

Like I just want to keep playing it, but real life stuff has to be done. Really looking forward to playing more. It's just so much fun!

For those playing, does it seem like there's an over abundance of dangerous wildlife? I've noticed from the videos and the comments here that there almost seems to be too much wildlife around. I hope random animal attacks every few minutes don't replace the respawning roadblocks from FC2.

It seems to be more dangerous to the enemy than to the main character - I saw a single wild dog take out four guys armed with AK's and then wander off into the sunset. Conversely, I just did a side quest where I ended up going up against six Komodo Dragons and managed to hold my own.

Hopefully running backwards, firing wildly, screaming ohsh*tohsh*tohsh*tohsh*t doesn't affect my reputation with the locals at all.

Yeah, those things suck. One grabbed onto my leg as I was sneaking through the jungle. It was like "GET IT OFF! GET IT OFFFFFFFF!!!!! OH GOD, GET IT OFF!!!!"

Also, MeatMan, I've bagged several tigers... just not any with a rocket launcher yet

Anyone had success registering it for Steam? Or do I have to register it with uPlay? (I'm about to buy key online* and prospect of installing uPlay client is the only thing that's holding me back.)

*in case you're wondering, buying keys only (and then registering them with Steam) is how all digital downloads work in Poland at the moment, since someone figured out that retail prices are half of pan-European Steam prices in here. So people just buy keys or boxed copies wholesale from publisher and re-sell keys through local eBay.

edit: Of course I couldn't wait so bought it anyway and answer is no ;]

Man I could really use a couple of Wild Boars right now. Also some dingo pelts wouldn't go astray.

I'm having a blast just playing this the way I played Skyrim - just pick something on the map to explore and let myself get sidetracked by whatever interesting things crop up on the way A lot of those idol collectibles lead to some really cool little hidden areas and points of interest.

If it helps, I ran into a little herd of them down at...

Spoiler:

The spaced out doctor's mansion, en-route to the mushroom cave

.

Not that anyone has asked about this, but I've been playing on hard and am finding it to be a nice challenge. Definitely makes you think more about what you are doing on the battlefield.

Thanks, I'll head there. I've seen a mass of pigs, yet no boars. And a snake. Stupid snake scared the crap out of me. Totally wasn't expecting it.

Woo! I landed a hand glider on top of a radio towe without having to climb the thingr! It is possible!

My one and only glider experience ended with me in the ocean.

I don't think you'll find any tigers or rocket launchers there.

Cracked it open tonight and have played about four hours. Wife went to bed three hours ago.

Amazing.

I do love it, but I wish it was a bit more STALKER-esque. I feel like an utter badass already and I'm only about four days in from being a weenie (three or four, maybe five story missions - I lost count). If I were scrabbling for ammo and the spawn rate on Technicals/patrols wasn't so high, I feel like I would get a lot more out of the setting.

I would also like the HUD to be more transparent.

But otherwise, its awesome. Having come straight from ME3 and its corridors, I love the freedom that I have to cause mayhem.

... and pre-ordered.

For those of you playing, what difficulty are you playing at? It looks like there are no difficulty achievements, but I've seen several sources that suggest playing at a higher difficulty for a more realistic challenge.

I'm playing on Normal. Middle of the 3 options. I could easily amp it up to hard as it's pretty damn easy.

I recommend starting on Hard.

WOOOOO!!! I found boars! Glorious Boars!!!

I keep thinking about it. Far Cry 2 was my favourite shooter in recent years, and while I appreciate all the work they've done to make FC3 a better, more pleasant game, I wonder whether it's possible to marry this style of gameplay to survival elements of FC2.

Still, it's my favourite action game this year, by miles.

I would also like the HUD to be more transparent.

Maybe they'll patch it in? Objective markers and prompts are killing me as well.

edit: anyone tried co-op yet?

Have I mentioned how much I hate crocodiles? Gah, they creep me out. I'm too scared to go in the water.

I tried to find info on this, but is FC3 definitely a Steam game? If I were to buy it from Amazon, would it unlock on Steam?

I've heard no.

It's not Steamworks.

Then off to Amazon I go to cancel my pre-order, and to Steam I go to re-pre-order!

I was wondering about it yesterday. I think if you don't buy it specifically on Steam you can't register your key. At least I couldn't. It sucks, but in here the Steam version costs twice what I had to pay for the game.

Also, when you launch the Steam version, it launches uplay and not the actual game. If you're just playing sp, set uplay to offline mode to prevent the game bugging out when trying to connect to the Far Cry servers.

There's no steam version in the UK at all, for whatever reason.

Does everybody's mini-map and large map show all the loot chests and hidden items? I looked in the store and found that you could buy loot maps, which I haven't, and was wondering if my game was bugged or something. It takes out a lot of the exploration.

Other than that the game is awesome.

You mean it doesn't show up in the store? It does in here, but it's buried deep.

Anyway, at least uPlay client boots much faster than Steam does.

You see all nearby loot chests by default, maybe that's what's happening to you.

Yup - completely absent, searching for it just brings up the earlier games.
