"Brazen" Double Fine's New Game

I couldn't find a thread for this. Headed up by Brad Muir (lead designer of Trenched/Iron Brigade) and based on Monster Hunter. It comes from the "Amnesia Fortnight" game development things that they do. 4 person co-op featuring 3 classes.

Stalwart: Shield based melee attacks.
Waracle: Melee ranged attack. Can shoot a spear, mace, and axe.
Beerzerker: The drunker he gets the more damage he does.

Here's a Giantbomb 1 hour stream of it. Footage starts at 23 minute mark.

As per shoptroll: If you want to play the prototype, Humble Bundle has the hook up.

Did someone say Monster Hunter?

I lit up a lobster shaped light in the sky for you.

There is a CRABWOLFLEOPARD. And a dude who fights with a pair of beer steins!

I love the look and feel of it. This is a Double-Fine-ass Double-Fine game.

BEERZERKER and he fights with WARSTEINS! He has a sobriety meter where the more drunk he is the stronger he gets.

"It's basically active reloading with beer..."

DoubleFine and Monster Hunter?

I'll buy the final product. Whenever that happens.

I don't mean to spoil the fun, but every time they said something like, "we took all the best parts of MH," I ran a pretty big mental list of things I think they missed.

Not that you can expect parity in 6 weeks of development. Just, "MH but simpler and fun!" isn't a strong appeal to someone who loves MH as it stands.

I'll peruse the details after work.

I tossed money at the bundle because 1) I'm a sucker and 2) I wanted to vote on the prototypes. So technically I have the prototype, but haven't played it yet.

EDIT:

According to the DF Forum thread, the game was from last year's Amnesia Fortnight and they polished it up for this bundle. No word if it's going further than this bundle, but there's probably a good chance based on the amount of buzz going around.

EDIT: Nothing to see here folks.

I haven't even looked at it yet, and I feel the same. Only ones I haven't played are the ones that require a Kinect.

What I expect from a Double Fine product:

-lots of personality
-decent mechanics
-very good content but not a whole lot
-unique idea or perspective

I think they look at Monster Hunter and said "the best part is fighting the big monsters" and that's what they're working from. Given the size of their development teams and restrictive budget, I am not surprised if it is just "MH but simpler and fun!". It'll be a $15 game and the content reflects that.

That's if it even goes beyond what they've shown. I expect it to given some of Brad Muir's comments during the Giant Bomb showing.

So has anybody tried the multiplayer for this yet?

I want this. Oh look, a prototype in my Steam. Anybody for playing somewhat shortly? Around 8:30 EST?

I played for a few minutes yesterday. It's definitely just a prototype. The FOV is really small, and the mouse sensitivity is crazy high, making it hard to aim. When you die, you have to Alt-F4 and restart it.

I love Double Fine stuff, and I've been super curious about Monster Hunter for quite some time. Definitely interested.
