Recommend me some youtube channels

This isn't a discussion I've seen here, maybe we're not the right demographic to be vlogging and spending hours on youtube

So recommend me some youtube channels that are worthwhile

David Ury's Youtube Channel
Features "The Surfing Monkey Show" about the life of Character Actors in LA. Includes anecdotes about actually being mistaken for homeless people.

FilmCow
Pretty odd hit and miss animations. The earlier ones are largely better

The OXM Breakdown
Amusing analysis of computer games and gaming topics. Like Charlie Brooker meets Zero Punctuation.

Some Grey Bloke
Smartly done animation series about a middle aged British guy who, among other things, doesn't really understand the internet/youtube

Adam Buxton
British media guy/comedian who makes clever and often silly pastiche videos covering most pop-media.

Geek and Sundry!

Crash Course: Done by Hank and John Green, the vlog brothers. A very well presented refresher to what you might have learned in high school on biology, history, ecology and literature.
Scishow: Science news shorts done by Hank Green
TEDTalksDirector: The TED talks Youtube channel, natch.
bigthink: Videos done by university professors, doctors, business leaders, famous thinkers, etc. Features a mix of shorts that will flesh out a single idea, and longer (45 to 60 minutes) videos which give an overview of a more general topic.

I'm fond of the content curated by Nerdist Industries.

Vi Hart! (That's mathy doodles and things.)

Freeman's Mind - Half-Life machinima

How It Should Have Ended - How major films should have ended

Marble Hornets - Creepypasta ARG thing

Ohhh, this thread and my new internet connected tv are going to be the death of my free time.

Huh, I was thinking of making a similar thread, only partly focused on those of us that want to start making YouTube videos ourselves.

I'm pretty one-dimensional lately, so my channels all focus on more in-depth vimija games analysis.

MrBtongue - Started with an in-depth overview of Mass Effect 3's ending. I really enjoy it.

smudboy - Started two years ago with Mass Effect 2

Sequelitis - Only three videos, evidently working on a fourth.

JonTron - With the exception of the first two games I prefer this guy's style over Angry Video Game Nerd's

Errant Signal - Probably the most well put together and professional of the bunch

I like WaysideCreations which has a live action Fallout series called Nuka Break. Surprisingly good though it looks like they ran about 7 episodes and then hopped over to kickstarter to fund the next season. They also have a lot of behind the scenes shorts about how they do some of the makeup effects, etc.

Lizzy Bennet Diaries if you liked Pride and Prejudice.

+1 for Nerdist

Also melodysheep - "Remixes for the Soul" including the Symphony of Science videos

Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin - short surreal game humor sketches by brother/sister Ashley and Anthony Burch, plus the occasional other family member (papa Burch ftw).

They funded the first season of Nuka Break with Kickstarter, too. I thought their initial fan film was better than the ongoing season they produced, not only for the writing but the video quality and acting as well. The first season benefited from better sets and other trappings, but I think the larger scope introduced problems.

I haven't kicked in any money so I can't be too disappointed, but I'm reservedly hopeful that the second season--due to hit early 2013, I believe--is an improvement.

"You'll have to clear my schedule. Tell them I'm off to save America."

...

God I miss that game. It became a meme amongst my friend circle in College. I guess they didn't release it Stateside because it would be considered offensive, but God damn man. Talk about bad assery.

If you like those two you should also check out Game Grumps. It's JonTron and Egoraptor playing games together, and it's usually pretty funny.

As far as video game channels go I also enjoy SeaNanners and Criken

I've watched GameGrumps a little bit, but I usually can't do too much of a Let's Play series that's just two or more people laughing at a game. That's why I can't really do Continue?. The closest to a Let's Play I've been able to enjoy, and I don't follow it regularly, is Spoiler Warning, as they tend to get more in-depth with the discussion.

The best ever Let's Play was screen caps from Final Fantasy VIII. I couldn't breathe, I was laughing so hard.

ARISE!

I'm really interested in finding some (more) YouTube channels that produce relatively frequent content (Weekly, Biweekly, Daily) that doesn't represent a huge time investment to watch (3-6 minutes is a sweet spot.... 10m or more per segment, and I won't watch regularly), and are genuinely interesting. I have a few that I like right now, but really would like to hear some more..... no preference on the topic matter - I have fairly broad interests.

Right now I subscribe to:

Veritasium
Unfair Reviews
D News

Thanks in advance!

This guy's channel is pretty funny. He's not really family friendly, but I started off by watching some of his Bloodborne videos.

And of course I'd like to throw my name in the hat, even though my channel is fairly new and I'm still working out kinks on the LIVE Streaming aspect of YouTube.

Arise again dead thread

Check out Super Jump Chap. Pop culture reviews, mostly focussing on sci-fi and fantasy books.

Full disclaimer I went to school with this dude.

Central Coast Disc Golf - Probably some of the best DG footage out there.

Primitive Technology is just a guy in the jungle...building houses and tools. No voice over or anything and it takes him a while to get videos out, but I had a relaxing evening just watching him make things we take for granted.

My current favorite channel is You Suck At Cooking, which purports to offer simple recipes and tips for amateur chefs, but which is mostly just a delivery platform for food related jokes, songs about pierogies, and an ongoing storyline about a fugitive egg accused of murder after witnessing his friend's suicide by hard-boiling.

Adam Koebel - Expert DM (and also co-creator of Dungeon World) who runs game on video and also streams videogames.

Roll 20 - the roleplaying videoconferencing site has multiple series of specific roleplaying games being played.

Lil Friendys - Puppets. Infernal puppets.

Extra Credits - video game talk, from a pop theory and criticism point of view

Glove and Boots - Puppets. You've probably seen their Vertical Video Syndrome PSA (and if you haven't now you have something to start with).

Every time I start watching a Glove and Boots video, roughly three hours of my life disappear.

So I could have sworn we had a thread dedicated specifically to gaming channels, but this is all I could find when searching. So, I got some new channels I enjoy.

Game Maker's Toolkit - Some in-depth looks at game design. Be sure to check out his episodes on Vanquish, Doom, and my personal favorite, him saying basically the same things I said about Star Fox Zero (because confirmation bias is the best).

Every Frame a Painting - Detailed glimpses into editing and direction of films. A good place to start is his episode on Edgar Wright, but honestly, I love every episode of his that I've watched.

Collative Learning and Rob Ager - Same guy, don't know why he divides his content between two channels or how he differentiates what goes where. What hooked me to him were his two analyses on The Thing, such as "Was Childs Infected?" A bit more dry with a sense of humor that, on occasion, is tough to realize is a joke (he has one video that's making fun of other YouTube "film" channels where he's basically saying "I don't think it really means anything but I thought it was cool" and such. Took me a while to realize he was takin' the piss).

Unseen64 - The guy basically has made a job of digging up and finding information on canceled games. Pretty damn thorough.

Passion of the Nerd - This guy decided to put together episode reviews of Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 1 so people would have an alternative to actually watching some of the worst episodes, like the dummy episode or praying mantis teacher. He had so much fun he decided to do the entire series. The reviews are smart, interesting, and short, so you'll burn through them pretty quick. And it's obvious that he loves the series.

I am really enjoying the "Movies with Mikey" content on Chainsawsuit.

His presentation can be a bit goofy at times but is usually entertaining. Where it really shines for me is the super thoughtful and insightful points he makes on many varied aspects of the films right down to the more granular and technical stuff.

Plus look at the playlist! Serenity, The Dark Knight, Galaxy Quest, Fury Road, Cabin in the Woods, Scott Pilgrim v. World, Sunshine, Ladyhawke and Big Trouble in Little China to name some.

Check it out.
