Ingress: The Google ARG

I just got word from a fellow local player that multihacking has been fixed server-side. I'm interested in seeing if it's affected everyone or if he's just crazy.

He's right... its quit working here too.

Are you guys being affected much by the high-level hack bug? Our L6+ players can't seem to hack portals at all right now, so they're just blowing things up and letting the lower-level players reclaim and link for AP before upgrading and setting up the bigger fields.

I received my invite! Working through the tutorial on my lunch.

I got my invite late last week - just as I was heading away on a trip.

Going to plug through some of the tutorial this week.

Looks like I'll be going green after the tutorial. I'm slap-bang in the middle of blue-land... zip 94065

Still waiting. Bah!

I went green as well. There's a good mix of green and blue around my home area, and green seems to be losing globally.

That's because green can't get its sh*t together

Finished the tutorial today, though I bagged the link portals one as there wasn't another portal near me.

Heading to a mall tomorrow for lunch and buy some wrapping paper (don't ask), so I'm going to hack a whole bunch of portals someone put there.

From what I can tell, being a lone wolf in enemy territory is a long, hard slog but at least I'll have a "target rich environment".

One question: If the max portal you can attack is 5 even when you're level 8, how do the higher level portals get attacked?

I'm pretty sure you can attack (XMP) any level portal, but with enough disparity in levels it's like spitting in the ocean. The fix for that is to keep hacking portals - earning AP and leveling, or teaming up with others in your area to take down a portal or two together (and it seems that if multiple people hit a portal that's part of a link/cf within a few minutes of each other, everyone gets the AP reward for breaking the CF).

Most major metropolitain areas seem to have Google Plus communities for the factions. Ask around on your faction chat to see if there's one for you.

Getting into ops with a few other people - especially higher level people - can change the game fairly quickly.

Being a "lone wolf" does make it a slightly different game, it's true. Getting really big CFs usually takes a group effort - if only to have your faction members avoid little links that would prevent you making really big ones.

Just got invited by Google, and surprisingly there's some action going on here in NC. I see Coldforged is out there raising a ruckus too.

Old Town Alexandria is almost entirely green and dominated by two lvl 5-ish individuals. Naturally I went blue. As noted, you don't get anything done, but the underdog element is fun. You've always got a target to hack nearby. It does put a workout on the battery. My S3 went from full to red in two hours of walking around.

Yeah, definitely not battery friendly and takes a long time to load up the app on my Stratosphere.

The word on the street is that it will soon be easier to level up as a 'Lone Protector' (or whatever you horrid Enlightenment people call them).

OMG I just tealized I'm all androided up now!

Yeah, they're changing it so now you'll get AP for recharging resonators, and something else I'm forgetting. The Toads just can't catch a break in our area... this change will give Team Blue a new batch of level 8 players in Seattle.

Clearly having a Gargantuan Note 2 has not helped with my stupid meathumb typing.

Forgot I got an invite a few weeks ago, went back and I must have deleted! Checked my other email account and I had one!

1st off, I totally want all my phone interactions to have the screen style of the entry messages!

"Welcome back. It's been... 18... hours. I was getting worried about you."

You're probably over thinking it.

1: Walk around.
2: Find a portal.
3: Tap 'target' on your phone, and then tap 'hack.'
If it's an enemy portal, then goto 1
else if attempt to refill the resonators, goto 1

tip
Use items liberally.

This is basically the game.

If anyone has an invite, I would appreciate one. Thanks.

Can do. Want to send me details?

Maq discovered in IRC he doesn't actually have any invites so my request is still open.

As far as I know we don't have any invites available to give.
The invite dialog box at http://www.ingress.com/intel reads 0 to give.

If you go to ingress.com you can request an account.

Looks like I need to pick this up now that I'm back on android. I was afraid the game wasn't popular anymore.

Depends where you live. There's a weekly Saturday brunch here for the Resistance team.

Apparently its still invite only. Anyone got an invite left? And what info do you need?

I started in November and I still haven't received any invites to give out, but when you get one you just need a Google account.
