Yep, just like old times!

That's sort of the point I'm at. It's fun, but far less so without the Goodjer squads we used to field.

If your Vanu on Matherson look for platoons with the [DaPP] tag. It's the outfit I joined and so far they seem to be a great group.

As to the spawn, die, spawn, die cycle... ya that happens =P. But sometimes, rarely, you will have a run where your an unstoppable force of nature, and that makes it all worth it. Don't ask me how but I managed a twenty kill streak the other day, including three tanks and an aircraft hit with a dumbfire rocket. Best gaming moment in a long time.

You're spawning at the wrong spot. Also, vehicles, they're super fun.
It's best never to think of it in terms of a regular team death match (unless you're just a digital fps god, but in that case you wouldn't have the problem of dying so much).

Also, I was wrong, I'm at 180 hours of Dragon's Crown.

Two steps to enjoy a random infantry situation in PS2:
1) Figure out the best objective, in terms of what you like and martial efficiency, do I kill that tank? guard that point? attack this point? defend the sundy? Flank? Defend a chokepoint? Whip out some AA? Maneuver yourself to a better firing position?
2) Achieve your objective. No matter how many lives it takes. edit: unless it simply becomes impossible, in which case you f*cked up step one, redo it.

The first thing I do after logging on is spawn a fighter and try to blow up a tank by hitting the backside with a full volley of rockets. Then I spawn a tank. I only fight infantry when and where it's fun, unless I get blowed up a lot, obviously.

If you're being zergged, forget about taking the point, focus on taking out the metal bastards that brought the crowd to the party. Of course some people enjoy farming xp.
It takes two C4 to kill a tank and let's say you only have one. Your options? Either make two trips or get a comrade. (Two trips is harder, they have time to repair)

I've been subscribed since launch. It's the only game I pay a monthly fee to and I probably shouldn't. I took quite a lot of time off, but this past month has found me running solo more often than not. I have to get the old outfit together (read as: We have to get the old band together) because the FPS improvement is really amazing. I went from heavy single-digit chop to a much more fluid experience.

While I'm a Connery-NC fellow, I still use my Briggs-TR and Waterson-VS characters now and then. I'd love to know some handles so I can add some of you as friends. I didn't play enough to stay in the Waterson outfit that I was in at the start (with some of you GwJ folks). I'm just not regular enough to run with the serious crews, I guess.

I wouldn't mind playing this more often as well. I took a long break and found that I'm no longer in the Outfit, but that's ok, I'd just as soon have a bunch of people on my friends list and play with whatever Goodjers are on. Anyone want to play?

There's a spreadsheet linked in the OP. Not sure how many folks are still active; I know I haven't played in a couple months:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...

Public Service Announcement: docbadwrench is one of the nicest, most helpful guys to have on your team in any game involving murdering thousands of brightly-colored fellow soldiers.

You are way too kind. I try to be helpful. Just keep me the hell out of an aircraft cockpit and no friendlies have to die.

Also, I now know why I don't see most of you in-game. Aside from Archangel, there are no other NC GwJ'ers on Connery. You're all on Waterson. I'm going to print that list out and start adding friends on to my Vanu character.

Yep, being useful is the way to win. Hehehe, I remember one time I accidentally killed a teammate while in a scythe. My favorite way to kill a tank is to launch rockets into it's backside. I was on a milk run and lo and behold, a teammate was simultaneously performing my second favorite way to kill a tank: drop jetpacking out of a tree and planting C4. I can't remember if I detonated the C4 or if just the tank explosion killed him or both, but I killed the tank. I apologized afterward, luckily he sent me a frowny face so I think it was a simple "/r".

You heathens choose greedy corporate pigs over enlightened Vanu!
(I run all three factions )

I would put all three of my characters in the spreadsheet except for the fact that I don't want to do that.

I'll roll up a new NC character on Connery then, I think.

EDIT: All set. You'll find me running around as XeknosII. It said Xeknos was taken, so I guess it doesn't allow duplicate names, even on different servers?

Dropping C4 on fliers is so special. I have done it (successfully) once and that was only because we all got dumped out of a Gal by the pilot - on top of a Reaver. It was total luck.

Yeah, all names are unique across the whole server-spectrum. I think they were concerned about server-merges creating a mess - which they did during the original Planetside. Johari server got axed and we all got our names appended with -J if there was a person already with that name on the server it got merged to.

I'll look you up, Xek! I should probably put all my characters into that spreadsheet...

Huge change log with new PU02 update (PU = Performance Update)
(Don't have a heart attack when they say they're reducing some things by 66%, they really mean to 66%)
https://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/...
Also, the patch introduced a server crash, but I've been playing without problems so far, YMMV.

Looks neat, what days are the daily sales going to be running for?

Just posting to lament, the game is fine, don't worry, but my ability to predict outcomes for battles and individual actions has turned it into a slog.
I'll probably come back in a few weeks when I'm bored.
Though I think the real thing that would help is playing in an organized fashion - and I do not mean a zerg platoon, it really sucks knowing what would help win and being absolutely unable to direct people to do such a thing.
Something like a Red platoon in VDRS

Had such fun today!
What can I say, I felt like driving a tank.
Killed a skyguard with my skyguard.
Killed a sundy with my skyguard.
Made a hover dogfight reaver run into the ground, cockpit first. I so wish they'd change the hovering mechanics, which is ironic cause it'd totally make sense in a space combat game and I love those.

Two lightnings having a duel with our max and maybe some heavies, bombarding our sundy's covered garage.
I ran alongside the hill on the side of the road, turned, saw the second lightning was further back, kept running, got behind him, planted C4 and kaboom!
His friend seemed to note the lack of sustaining firepower or he heard the explosion, but I ran up to him and he started to turn the turret in my direction and back up, but I let slip my C4!
I wasn't sure if it stuck, but I jetpacked to be harder to hit and avoid the explosion and it worked! Pop goes the lighting!

NS-7 PDW, possibly the best weapon in the game. You can use it for almost anything. You can practically hipfire bursts at mid.

At any rate, if you use station cash, it can be used across all characters and it can be used by all classes 'cept Max of course, so it's a good deal.

Wish I had space in my gaming to continue playing this. One of these days I will hop in to see all the changes in the past half year.

The NS-7 PDW is good for versatility, especially if you're in infiltrator. However, it trades the flexibility for damage output, losing to other SMGs and shotguns at close range, and losing to carbines and rifles at medium range. In particular, engineers and light-assaults are probably going to be better off taking the NS-11c carbine.

There have been a lot of improvements to the game over the last few months, and SOE has promised to release updates more frequently going forward. In particular, the UI has gotten better, but the game is still quirky and occasionally does irritating things. My current annoyance is the client-side hit detection, which means you can still get shot around corners. Still the game is unparalleled when it comes to allowing for large battles.

I too have been pretty absent from the game. I even shut off my subscription for the time being. I will however probably jump back in when the new continent goes live. What is the ETA on that anyway?

The new continent (Hossin) has been pushed back, and I don't think a date has been announced yet. The focus recently has been on general engine improvements (particularly framerate issues), as well as an overhaul of Amerish (the last of the original continents to get an update, including a base redesign and addition of lattice). I don't think we'll get a lot of new content until then, so I don't expect to see any major content additions until late spring.

Oh, that reminds me, I removed my Waterson account (RIP ItsatrapGWJ) in favor of a different faction alt on another server, so uh, I guess there's that. It does remind me how tough it is for new accounts who have no upgrades. Supposedly SOE wants to change the way that character progression works to try and close the equipment gap between veterans and new players.

I feel like an addict that has relapsed, but I reinstalled the game after my frustrations with BF4. The group play I experienced in PS2 is light years ahead of anything BF4 can ever offer and I missed the pew-pew aspect. Going to reconnect with my old outfit (NNG on Mattherson) tonight and see how they're doing. That said I put probably put 1000 hours in and spent more than I'd care to calculate on 2x and 3x Station cash events and memberships.

True enough, also I plan on unlocking extended mags asap (to go from 30 per mag to 40). 40 bullets mean one can easily drop two infantry before reloading. (8 to kill within 15m, 10 to kill farther out, and you can get soft point)

Also tried the NS-11M in VR and that thing's a blast too (heavies only).

It was just so amazing to get a suppressed SMG and cloak up and head into a chaotic room, and reap and reap and reap.

Just started playing this today. If anyone wants to be a mentor, my name is the same as on here. I made sure to join the server listed in the top post and applied for membership with Quantum Dawn.

I've been thinking about reinstalling this, too. Never was that serious about it before, and doubt I'll get serious this time if I dive back in, but I would kind of like to play a bit.

Cool. I ended up going with a different outfit as I never heard from Quantum. I've been on for a few hours every night. Let me know when you're on and we can play together.

I've been playing a bunch again also. Forgot how much fun this game can be. I'm RenjiGWJ on Waterson as Vanu.

I am on now and then as Valmorian.

Is there any way to respec? I respecced after one of the patches returned my certs. And only then realized that things I put certs into cannot be equipped simultaneously. So now I have a bunch of wasted certs, and for someone who doesn't play too often they are a precious resource.

From a quick google search, it looks like you can't.

No, there is no way to respec. I *strongly* suggest that you try new things in VR Training before spending actual certs on them.

While I remember the pain of trying to earn certs as a low-level player, it's pretty easy to earn 30-50 certs per hour as a mid-level player. The other thing to consider is that you get 12 free certs for the first 24 hours you spend logged out, and if you log in regularly, those free certs add up.

My boyfriend has been playing Planetside 2 on and off for almost a year. Unfortunately, the game keeps causing a Blue Screen of Death for him with error code 0X00000116 and then ***nvlddmkm.sys - Address FFFFF8800FC44E2C base at FFFFF8800F289000, 5315b408. Then his comp begins a physical memory dump.

The game used to crash and BSOD specifically when he was in the map screens, but lately it causes a BSOD only after he logs out of the game. He has tried reinstalling the game, repairing the game files, running a memory check in BIOS and Windows (all memory good), setting all anti-virus and firewall protocols to ALLOW all to no avail. His comp does meet the minimum requirements to play Planetside 2:

Motherboard: XFX780i 3-way SLI
DirectX 11
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
RAM: 8 GB
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 550 Ti (single card, not SLI)
Sound/Mic: Logitech G35 Headset

He can run Planetside 2 for hours and hours at a time with no issues, but then upon logging out he will get the BSOD. This happens with all graphics settings: on low with Physx and other bells and whistles disabled, medium to high settings, or Optimal via Nvidia Experience program. All other games he plays on High or Ultra settings without any issues whatsoever. It is only Planetside 2 that causes this to happen. Any troubleshooters or diagnostic repair tools used state that there are no problems detected. So basically, we are clueless as to why this keeps happening.

He submitted a ticket through SONY a few months back and they told him his graphics card was old and failing and to buy a new one which would fix the problem.... We doubt this is a real fix.

Can anyone help us out?

Thanks in advance!
