Ahwell. Soon. Sooooooooon.

I thought this week was only for current PS1 players. Then they said in a week or two the vets+twitter keys.

Its been almost 2 weeks since the current PS1 players got access. Smedley said in a tweet that PS1 Vets would be in on Monday the 20th . PS1 vets are ones that have played in the past, not currently subscribed to PS1, and have signed up for the beta.

And if you want to verify for yourself, and are a Plansetside veteran who has signed up for the beta, here is the link to see if the download works.

I'm a PS1 veteran and I have a beta key via twitter but no joy here either.

Have an veteran's gotten emails? Hopefully they're just staging it.

No email received. I did get into the beta this morning. On twitter they posted a theory that they could be going in date of vet status. But that is just conjecture.

Is there a gwj outfit set up? I see the one on the Europe server.

Smedly just tweeted that all PS1 Vet accounts have "now been flagged" as of 11:48a EDT. I'm not seeing any love on my account however. I'm going to be more than a little annoyed if having a priority key will have delayed my getting into the beta.

If I'd know I was getting in as a vet, I never would have bought that copy of PC Gamer, but that's fine, that's on me (though communication could have been better). But if having a key (that I paid for!) delays me, I'll be upset.

This is something we definitely need to pin down as more people are getting access. I've been playing for different factions on different servers, but I am not attached to any particular faction. The most important thing for me is to play with goodjers. Oh how I yearn to play with people who don't take off in an empty galaxy for no reason. Or wait until they have a full one and then crash 15 seconds after takeoff.

I try to log on to vent when I'm on, so hopefully that will help us all sync up.

There's one created on the East server i believe

Yup

I'm the same, being new to PS. But it seems PS1 was good about building faction loyalty enough that it might never get resolved 100% around here.

I hope enough Goodjers join the Terran Republic (even 10 would be nice) so I can game on with humanity's rightful heirs to the throne.

Yeah, I created it on East Vanu a week ago but I have no idea if it actually worked. I didn't get much of a confirmation. If you find it, let me know.

If we don't have an NC contingent I might join you because there's absolutely no way I'm playing Vanu.

I received my email at that time, but that did not stop me from starting the download earlier.

As far as which side to play on, I would rather play with GWJ and I know different people have different faction loyalty. How it works with every MMO I have played with GWJ (See SWTOR and WoW) is that only one faction will survive over time. So when the game is released start 1 outfit for each faction and see who survives.

For the beta I would suggest sticking together since the population will be low. We already voted Barneys right?

Vanu won the vote, yes.

I wouldn't be surprised if that becomes the "official" GWJ faction with semi-permanent outfits in the other factions, however. Personally, I'll play any of the three, I just ~prefer~ Vanu. I don't have the bloodlust for other factions that most vets have. (I played Vanu and NC in PS1, I dabbled in TR, but was never a huge fan - though I did like the flak cannon in their AA Max).

If I get to put a flak cannon and a jump pack on a Vanu MAX, I'll have found my new home. Can't wait to test custom configurations!

Well if it follows the typical GWJ burn pattern there will be 120 people playing the first month of release and two months later there's be 6 people on!

And that's with games with monetary barriers to entry. This is F2P, which anybody can try and drop with no guilt.

I expect I'm good for six months or so, then I'll go from semi-casual to full-on casual. We'll see.

We're lookin' at you, TOR! Somewhere, my Bounty Hunter is wasting away in a spaceport, not living up to his potential.

For me, the legs this game will have will depend on how regularly we can group. Playing solo can get frustrating.

Oof. This game chugs, lowest settings, on my laptop (i7-2630 6MB, 8GB 1600mhz, GTX 580 2GB)

I'm guessing they'll optimise it some over the coming weeks.... I hope. Since your graphics card is the equivalent of my desktop one:

here[/url]]The related desktop GeForce GTX 580 is based on the GF110 chip and is much faster than the GeForce GTX 580M. Therefore, in terms of general performance, the 580M is more closely related to the GeForce GTX 560Ti. Even then, the 580M performs slightly slower due to the higher clock speeds of the desktop 560Ti.

My CPU and RAM are also worse.... and the devs were saying that they want to enable 5 year old PCs to be able to play this game and mine certainly isn't 5 years old tech!

They tweeted the other day that average framerates since the start of beta have gone up from 30s to mid-high 40s IIRC. So things are improving.

Good news! Was hoping I wouldn't have to explore overclocking.

Check the beta forums for suggestions on improving performance.

this was still in my clipboard!

These 2 tips made my game from unplayable to PLAYABLE

http://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/i...

1. Render quality- most people I know have it set at about .85, but the lower you go the higher your fps will be (and the uglier the game gets but hey, beta).

2. Go to the user options (right click the beta icon, go to open file location) and adjust the render distance. Default is -1.000000, which is infinity- change it to whatever you want in meters. I have it at 1000 and it hasn't effected the gameplay whatsoever, and nearly doubled my framerate.

I let SOE Support know about my account not being veteran flagged and got the following back a few hours later

Greetings ,

I have reported your account as not being flagged for the beta. We are trying to get all accounts flagged as quickly as possible. Please be patient as this may take a little while. We are hoping to have the accounts flagged with 24 hours. If you have any further questions please let us know.

So, at least there's that.

EDIT
And in the time it took to post that, I got another e-mail indicating they are manually adding my account to the beta right now.

Excuse me while I click the download link. . . .aaaannnnddd. . . .

. . . BINGO!

So, yay! Writing to customer service helps.

I'm always willing to strip an online shooter to the bare minimum graphic quality in order to improve performance. As long as I can see a face to shoot it, I don't need to know how many pores are in that face.

EDIT: The tweaks did help a great deal but I still occasionally get a slideshow when there's lots of folks nearby.
