Planetside 2 Catch-All

I had a character of each faction and I played them all to the limits of my Reserves account. But NC was definitely my favourite. I really REALLY hope they allow something similar because if you get locked into to a single faction period end I'm going to be a sad panda.

A guy I watch over on DA just posted some concept work he did for Planetside 2. ukitakumuki. It's pretty neat stuff seeing it unobfuscated by graphics.

Might want to keep your eyes on the sky then. I'll be where I'm happiest, in my tank busting Reaver! AIRBEAR LIVES!!!

Feet dry, inbound hot & weapons free!

Wasn't that a Disney movie?

I'll be in my MAX or stealthing it out. Perhaps even running around as an engineer. (or heavy assault, or or or, heh)

I will be flying my bus, taking tokens and dropping off my passengers safely behind friendly tanks and MAX suits. Now doesn't that sound like the sexiest thing you can do in Planetside 2?

Nice, I like the armor he came up with over the current in game I saw.

I always played NC. Why is it that it's always Vanu, Vanu, Vanu! There purple alien wanabes! Oh an don't get me started on the TR. Hello! NOD wants there uniforms back.:)

How did you escape the TR prison camps?! No one speaks ill of the Republic! ;)

It was easy because they were all incompetent!

Hehe. Actually, on the EU servers I played on TR were the weakest faction (after VS were bumped after the first nerf). Used to play VS at the very start when they got their initial nerf and became the weakest weapons-wise. I remember everyone scrounging for the other factions' assault rifles because the energy dissipation on all our weapons was freakin' ridiculous!

Seriously though, I always played NC because the Vanu were purple and TR looked evil in all the red. It had nothing to do with the gameplay balance. I just liked playing what seemed like good guys. I can never seem to play evil/dick characters in games. I tried playing an renegade Shepard in ME and I just couldn't do it. Now Dungeon Keeper, that's a different.

There are no good guys, only different flavors of bad. You get to pick between the Freedom lovers (Corporate slaves), the Ligament Authority (Space Fascists), or the Scientists hoping to Bring-Us-Forward (Techno-Religious fanatics). Enjoy!

I only know them by shotgun, gatling gun and laser rifle.

But I really played all three despite mostly being TR. I liked the look of TR stuff and I liked most of their weapons. The infiltrator looked nice. The heavy assault was what I ran with mostly when I wasn't in the chain gun MAX.

The NC stuff didn't grab me as much, which is shocking because I love shotguns in most shooters. Most of their unique stuff looked goofy to me. They had a MAX that had guided rockets that you would pilot to their destination. It was effective but too time consuming.

The vanu stuff was good but mostly underpowered until a patch a few months down the road that gave them considerable punch in several key weapons. I liked their VS AA MAX the best of all AA but I never really played AA unless it was with the TR stinger? Just before I quit playing I was starting to enjoy the green gas grenade launching MAX. They had the most fun and accurate infiltrator pistol.

I'm will start out as TR; mostly for their bad ass look(s).

I'll give you a Disney movie in the form of 14mm cannon fire and Hellfires!

You mean the Combat Barney look?

No, for that sweet ass, bad ass, Imperial Guard look. Those tough as nails-troopers from Warhammer 40K!

Green gas grenade? You mean plasma grenades? I don't remember any MAX units having those. There was a rifle with an underbarrel launcher and a multi shot grenade launcher called the Thumper. Otherwise you had to throw them by hand.

I have a special fondness for the Vanu pistol. Vanu weapons fire energy pulses and because of that they don't show ridiculously large coloured tracers whenever they fire. As an infiltrator who could only use pistols the Vanu weapon was by far the best all around. The TR one was too slow and obvious and the NC one had its uses but was horribly short ranged. Even though I played as an NC infiltrator I would go out of my way to loot Beamer pistols and energy cells and store them in a locker.

What I would do on some maps was climb a tower and jump onto a nearby tree. Sometimes the enemy would be attacking and take over the tower. But they would never find me. So I would sit up there and wait for someone really wounded to come along and take potshots at then with the beamer. Single energy shots are almost impossible to see, especially in a raging firefight. And despite the damage dropoff at range it still packed a nice punch. I can remember using the scope mod and getting kills even at 12X magnification. Those must have been some really confused people.

Another fond cloaker memory I have is sneaking around with my shotgun pistol and seeing a VERY damaged mosquito coming in to land. It literally was so damaged that its health bar was completely empty. Just before it touched ground I shot it with my shotgun pistol. Not even using anti armour ammo! Popped it in one shot. The pilot PMed me afterwards and we spent a good 5 minutes laughing.

Yeah, while I'm sure that was a really good burn there; I did't actually ever play Planet Side so it's lost on me.

If your dick is purple then you might want to go and see a doctor!

Actually it's not, it's a massive blunder on my part because I was thinking Vanu and not TR.

I can haz epic fail?

Here's hoping I get lucky today.

So yeah, this is something I would like to play. Everyone that already is is clearly a bastard.

Has the beta started yet? HAS IT?!? Not that I care or nothing. *kicks small rock, hands in pockets* Has the beta started yet?

I loved it too. It took a little patience but kills with the beamer were rewarding. Most of my infiltrator kills came from the close range burst machine pistol. However, my most favorite ones were with the beamer while hiding out in the open. If you stayed still and plucked a passerby in the head when they were turned away it was incredibly amusing.

I hid out in the open because as soon as the target was hid, they would frantically search every nearby nook trying to find me. And quite often I would mislead them into swearing I was in a particular spot by waiting until they had just turned away from a prime spot to plink them again. The tension was heightened when they would look around frantically right on top of you.

The only thing I can think of to enhance this experience would be to partner with somebody while doing it. So if you or anyone else is game, count me in. And I can't wait as it looks like infiltrators or going to have some more weapon selections.

Looks like you will have to wait a little bit longer.

I got in the current Technical Test running ("Pre-Beta" one might say). With the NDA and all I'll refrain from spilling details, but as a heads up if the beta is in similar condition to this Technical Test then believe Smedley when he says the PS2 beta is going to be a "real" beta.

The framerate on my good machine is below 30 fps in battle. I've seen flying MAG suiters and dead tanks float infinitely off into the skybox. Stuff like that.

That being said, I am thrilled to be able to get a taste of PS2 at last.

Turn down shadows, fauna detail and anything in graphics you don't really care about. Do a "/fog off" in the chat.
At least that will give you decent framerate to test everything else.

I mean I read this somewhere.

What? We're not delivering a package of dashed Planetside 2-beta hopes to the Never-Return sector?

The Planetside 2 beta news might cause me to get naked and run outside. Just sayin' #DontComeToNorthernOntario
