Planetside 2 Catch-All

ya, i stopped after trying about 20 times. i've read on other forums of people trying 50-100 times.
I suspect someone has a bot set up and is scooping them faster than people can copy them.

This months computer gamer has beta keys inside, I figure I might pick one up. The game still in alpha though right, so maybe no rush.

Closed beta is within a couple of weeks with open beta a few weeks after that.

The E3 showing was very impressive (they won all sorts of awards), so hopefully that will give them the confidence to start sending out invites. If people haven't yet they can check out the Youtube archives of Totalbiscuit's E3 streams.

Game is looking solid. There were about 100 people playing apparently, whereas the closed/open beta cap will be at 2000 people per continent (600ish people per faction). The extra spawn locations were set up specifically for the E3 demo to make sure people could immediately jump into combat.

Want. Want. Want. Want.

I'm crossing my fingers to get into that closed beta. I'm still subbed to regular ol' PS.

Yeah, watching those videos brought back great memories of PS1. This game really looks good so far and hoping for a beta invite as well. They still at a fall release?

I find myself rabidly daydreaming about this game at times, and others telling myself that I won't pick this one up at all. For me it all depends on being able to find a good, active, and organized guild (I think they were called "Outfits" in PS1). I tried playing PS1 with and without one. It's pretty unfun playing without one.

I'll say it right now:

"You can be my wingman anytime."

I'm in for this game like no other game. This is the shooter I always wanted. I'll delete my entire Steam library and play nothing else.

You need someone to drive the tank, rock the boat, unload a clip, bust a cap - I'm there. I'll form a guild. I'll forge an army. Planetside 2 baby.

Now, I just need to pick a side. I'm thinking the side that shoots bullets in the most grimiest way possible. No freakin' lasers for this dude.

I scored a priority beta key!

It would be awesome if we could get Goodjer-based Outfit going. I am cool with either the Terran or New Conglomerate factions. Never could stand those blasted Vanu.

....screw you guys, Vanu forever.

I know the whole faction loyalty thing is supposed to be important. But I did eventually get bored of fighting with the same guns and the same vehicles. Does anyone know if we will be locked into a single factions forever?

I don't believe so. You can have multiple characters from what I understand.

You get one guy per account and cannot switch. It's free though so you could get multiple accounts I suppose.

Edit: I don't think they are keen on having the 4th empire issues again this time.

I think it's one character per server, not one character per account.

Fairly hilarious sequence of events over on SomethingAwful. A few people there pick apart SOE's Launchpad app, and manage to download the beta client and (reportedly) get some play in as well.

Some responsible members of the internet community tweet Higby about it, and he shuts it all down.

Then Higby and Jon Smedley turn up in the SomethingAwful thread discussing it. Jon Smedley being the head of Sony Online Entertainment.

Hilarity ensues.

Now that you said that I'm thinking this statement is pretty vague and I might be jumping to conclusions.

You select an empire when you create your character and from then on you're locked into that empire. Since Planetside 2 is a free-to-play game there is no limit on the number of characters you could create to try out the other empires, though!

He may just mean a character can't switch empires. It's hard to tell.

I'm really hoping its one account and one character per faction like in the original. They had 20-hour timer lockouts on them so that you couldn't simply switch on the fly. But it DID allow you to play each faction.

Seeing as the game is F2P and based entirely around the idea of offering me cool sh*t to buy. I can't see why they would ever cut people off from 2/3 of the potential game content. Having multiple accounts is too much damn work, especially once money and account balances are split too.

Yeah, so we're going Vanu, right?

Not a chance....you filthy purple pew pewer. WE ARE THE NEW CONGLOMERATE!

Figure we might as well put up a poll to see where most people would like to go. Probably set the winner as the main GWJ faction. Of course noone is force to play that faction, but it might help us all play together.

Choose your side.

Terran Republic for me. The more chunky the weapons the better I like it.

I'll be the crazy TR guy yelling, "For the Emperor!" and "Purge the xenos! (Vanu)" Listen for me in game.

KarmaJay and I used to play this in an outfit together. I think he knows what faction to choose.

I plan on Vanu Sovereignty, but if the game allows for multiple characters then I see no problem in having multiples. It would, however, be crappy to only have one character and thus force everyone to compromise (because as it stands, that would mean no Vanu for me unless I wanted to play alone).

I am definitely Vanu. Always loved them more

Having never played PS1, I'm ignorant to the lore, but do they have Merc outfits that can support different sides?

No.

Voted!

Spoiler:

Not for the Vanu!

I scored a priority key! My joy knows no bounds right now! For the Vanu, improving the human condition, through force if necessary!

Those were good times
