Wii U Catch-All

Ubisoft just announced Rayman Legends is delayed to September (and is now multiplatform on 360 and PS3).

Not pleased at all. My girlfriend and I were super stoked to get that game this month. The last minute delay is dumb. That it's going multiplatform is also not a great sign for the Wii U but seriously, you couldn't have just put that version out now and put the others out in September?!

Also weird is that they're staying with the PS3/360 when the new consoles are expected to launch in November. It's either a red herring (ie. they're really announcing it for the new consoles but can't say them specifically because of an NDA) or this is a confirmation of backwards compatibility on the new consoles.

Really bizarre announcement.

Not surprising at all. The game has been in development for a while now, for them to shift to the new consoles would delay it further, increase costs substantially, and generally be a bad decision. Ubisoft doesn't want this game to become the next Duke Nukem Forever. I'd also argue that it's not going multiplatform, it's always been multiplatform and Ubisoft was just mum about the fact.

I agree it's strange that they delayed the Wii U version, that part makes me think some deal fell through. A 6-month timed exclusive is not uncommon these days, but if Nintendo and Ubisoft discussions dissolved then it makes more sense that Ubisoft would cancel that exclusivity agreement.

Well *%£#.

Ouch! I really hope Pikman 3 doesn't get delayed any further because this already pretty barren release schedule is getting worse.

I think if they delayed the Wii U version for the other platforms, that's a big mistake. Releasing Rayman, which is a B level franchise (at best) in September is a huge mistake. It's not going to sell and the gaming intelligentsia will blame Nintendo for that. I don't think I'll buy it in September but I was going to buy it in Feb/March.

My thoughts exactly! It's a slap in the face.

Wasn't one of the reasons Rayman: Origins a surprise was because it released in the holiday season next to the big blockbusters and turned out to be a landslide success?

I'd always been under the impression it was more a long-tail success than a breakout hit.

I feel bad for you guys that considered Rayman your system seller. That'd be really disappointing. Thankfully Monster Hunter seems to be on track still for me >_>

Concerning Rayman, apologies for linking to NeoGAF, but... http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthre...

I think that with the second game there was/is much more anticipation, the expectation that they are going to be able to top what they did in the first game.

I was not thinking about it as a system seller for me, so it's not that upsetting, but it is kind of disappointing. Monster Hunter is the system seller for me, too!

Thirded on MH being the system seller for me, too. I loved the Rayman Legends demo and really want to play more of it, but I haven't yet finished the already stellar platformer that is NSMBU. Honestly, RL was going to go on the pile at first, purchased as a platform-booster first and a game to be played later. Now that it's delayed, I can concentrate on finishing some other stuff first, have a ball when the new MH is out, and still have an awesome new platformer to look forward to in the fall.

That said, it sucks that it got delayed, and I'm sorry for everyone who was wound up for it. It's definitely a title Nintendo could use released sooner rather than later, as it looks gorgeous and the GamePad functionality in the demo alone seems pretty compelling. Overall, the more cool stuff that can be shown off, and more importantly, the sooner, the more quickly the Wii U can gain more of it's own traction while Nintendo works out how to sell the promise of their console a little later than they should have. I'm willing to give them a lot of credit for acknowledging their mis-steps and hope the remainder of the year goes a long ways towards making up for that.

Also, hands up, who's intrigued by the apparent merging of the console and handheld divisions? I'm stoked for a more unified approach, and could be swayed to pick up a 3DS/3DSXL if we see more things move in that direction, despite not being a mobile gaming kinds guy.

It wasn't a landslide success. It made money in spite of Ubisoft but it wasn't a smash hit.

One of the developers on the game posted a rant about Ubisoft this morning. Apparently the team had been in hard crunch since last May to get the game done in addition to the numerous press demos that were insisted upon. It's literally done and ready to ship and they didn't find out until after completion that the company decided to delay it (likely due to the Wii U's less than stellar sales so far.) So all their crunch was for absolutely nothing. What a dick move.

Oh man, if that happened to me I would flip the table and walk out.

I would do the same thing... in my mind.

New in-box WiiU bundle. The Deluxe set (32GB model, stands, Nintendoland) + pro controller + ZombieU for $389. That's $110 worth of extras for $40 more. Now that's sounds like a good deal. Coming next Sunday, February 17th.

Sweet. Know which edition I'm getting with my tax return money.

Didn't read it fully. Nintendoland is a download, and there's also an art book for ZombiU is included.

Man, wish I wasn't paying off the 2nd car loan with the tax return.

It's sad. I have no willpower. Like others, I happily bought the Wii U when it came out because it's a Nintendo system, and the only thing I've done on it is updated the firmware twice and played ZombiU for two hours. I don't think the system is dead or doomed yet - as well all know, the first year of a console's life is rarely ever perfect. Anyone remember the PS3 and how everyone was saying it was eternally screwed?

I imagine once Monster Hunter Tri comes out, I'll finally put some time into the console and give it its fair shake.

Huh ZombiU and a pro controller. Two things I would have wanted to buy anyway.

Is that a permanent 3rd option or a limited run? I was really trying to hold out a little longer...

The odd thing about that bundle is neither game that comes with it actually uses the Pro Controller. Unless ZombiU multiplayer does?

That deal is kinda tempting, but not quite tempting enough. I hope it sticks around, it'd be the kind of deal I might jump on in about 6 months when my pile is a bit smaller.

Total software sales for the UK in the month of January. This included bundled Nintendoland.

Maybe Nintendo should bail on the UK like Microsoft did in Japan.

Very happy to see this new bundle, if for no other reason than more people need to play the criminally underrated gem that is ZombiU.

Has anyone tried the Wii U Pro controller?

It looks comfortabe like the 360 pad, but the right stick/button swap seems like it my break my aged mind. Has anyone had trouble going back and forth between the traditional 360/PS3 stick/button mapping to the Wii U Pro?

How do the sticks feel? Do they have good tension?

I am tempted because I want to get a Wii U someday but right now there are not any games which I am really excited to play meanwhile I just picked up Ni No Kuni, and Fire Emblem so I am pretty set for stuff to play.

Feels fantastic. Has great tension and the battery last a really long time.

Except I screw myself up playing Black Ops II. I can never figure out which is reload. I'm the guy constantly jumping whenever my clip runs dry. That's why I only play it on the Xbox now. But I play the WiiU locally for the cool splitscreen with the gamepad.

Other than that. It feels like a light Xbox controller. You can even push down on the sticks (like the Xbox).

I agree about the battery life. I only charged mine once so far.

I can only hope that they will offer someone like me, who bought ALL of those things already, something....

Thanks for the replies.

Man, that bundle is so tempting.
