Wii U Catch-All

Can the WiiU play Gamecube games?

Not on disc. Just whatever they sell from the eShop.

No word whether they'll actually be selling GC games.

I'd put money on the line that will happen before 2014, but I doubt it's a priority since we still don't have full GBA VC on the 3DS.

I've got my hands on a Deluxe edition after a bit of driving. Got Nintendo Land, New Mario and ZombieU to check out. Looking forward to it! I'll post some impression once this system update is done downloading sometime in 2013.

So you found one without pre-ordering? Maybe I will see how my luck is tomorrow.

He found two, technically. He bought a regular and then a deluxe. They're out there...somewhere.

To be clear, I got the non-deluxe at a Shoppers Drug Mart (seems like every store got two non-Deluxe units) and I went to a Futureshop (Best Buy, basically) on a separate trip to buy a dishwasher. Showed up 15 minutes before they opened, strolled in and grabbed a Deluxe. They were gone immediately after.

I suspect you won't see more Wii U's on shelves until Tuesday or so. Or Black Friday.

I can say that even with a mere $20 premium for time and gas, no one on the local online ads has hit me up for this spare regular unit. I may end up just returning it. I'm pretty surprised by that.

The line this morning at my local Target barely exhausted supply. I could have slept a few more hours.
I am posting this from my gamepad. So the browser works.

Not sure when I'll be purchasing mine. Unfortunately tuition comes first. Otherwise I would have one in hand.

I got mine last night. Added my profile info.

I only picked up Mario u but I'm enjoying the super Mario world interpretation far more than the past entries.

If it did, I would be much more tempted. I'm glad I'm not more tempted, and I don't think it's reasonable to really expect them to support two consoles deep- still, wish they did.

Did the WiiU sell out everywhere? They have one left at my Best Buy. I don't want one at the moment, but new console is always tempting.

I can only speak for the two places I went. The Gamestop I preordered from told the non-preorder people that they could put them on a wait list but they wouldn't get a console til after Christmas. I was in Best Buy around 10:30 picking up a game and I saw a lady take the last Basic set they had.

I think I'll probably end up with one someday, when my kids are bigger, but right now we barely use the Wii. I used my GC more. But then, I had no kids = more gaming time then.

Got mine in hand earlier, would be playing right now but my gf requested that I wait for her before i load up anything. So all i've done it patch it and transferred my Wii files over lol. When I went and got mine there were 4 deluxe and 4 basic in my local bestbuy on the shelf. Only have Nintendo Land Sonic Racers for the time being. Picking up Mario friday through the special that Old Navy is running

I was in Gamestop today to put in a Persona 4 preorder. The guys there said that management decided not to have a midnight launch for the Wii U since Black Friday is coming up and that all the Wii U's are for people on "the list". Don't know how long that list is.

Looks like preorders rule the roost, but Gamestop can't be expected to carry the console load that Target, Walmart, BB, etc. carry.

I imagine it's sold out just about everywhere by this point ... and I have no clue when the next shipment comes in. Looking good for Nintendo.

I was at target earlier and they had a dozen on the shelf. Stock boy said they weren't selling as well as expected.

Sire! You look like the stock boy!

Nintendo Land is pretty awesome after about an hour and a half with it. It's a really nice surprise considering the lukewarm reception at E3.

I've read a lot of reviews and Twitter opinions saying the final version ended up impressing quite a bit.

I don't think it's a matter of polish, I think it's just game critics being dismissive on behalf of their own biases and their audience. We as gamers are conditioned to react poorly to anything labeled a minigame. It's understandable, I wrote the game off myself, but I wish more measure would get put into some of the post-show analysis.

He may have been referring to final version in the sense that people were able to spend time with the full game and not just the time they had at E3, etc.

+1 to this. There's usually a lot of griping about how hard it is to get good experience with anything at E3. Also, they had most of the games unavailable at that time I think.

Excellent news!

Picked up my console this afternoon, and MAN is it taking forever to set up. The Wii transfer took an ungodly amount of time. But the main thing that pisses me off, as with the original Wii, is the long loading times for seemingly nothing. I can understand if I'm loading some huge level or graphical explosion, but not just a Wii Store menu. I just don't get why Nintendo's UI is always so slow.

Haven't even played a game yet. I'm downloading Trine 2, Little Inferno, Mighty Switch Force, and Nano ASsault. I also have Mario and Zombii U on deck. IT'll be hard to get through work tomorrow.

Can't find a system. I'm trying to snipe on eBay, but hell if I am going to pay twice the price.

Don't buy if it's more than MSRP. Please. Screw those guys.

Yes indeed! Absolutely brilliant move on their part and I'm very glad to finally see the pull their heads out of their backsides when it comes to indies. Microsoft all but spits in their faces now and Sony is better but still seems to impose some of the restriction on them that they do on larger players. Nintendo could bring a lot to the table by giving indies some leeway.

The Giant Bomb live stream has left me completely depressed. I guess I should be happy they were sold out everywhere in town but, man...

The local Craigslist has several units up for $400-$700. I think those guys are going to eat their Wii U's.

Yeah, I watched the bulk of the 7 hour live stream and was a bit troubled by some of the base-line issues. Hopefully it's just stuff Nintendo can build upon and evolve with system updates much like MS and Sony have this gen.
