Dark Souls Catch-All

You aren't meant to kill him the first time you go through the door.

Technically, it is the second time through the door.

Did you go through white fog to get to him?

I thought you said you'd only been able to open it once?

If you find a door in Dark Souls that is locked, then it means you need to explore other areas. The first area isn't super big.

Will do, but how the hell did I get through the door the first time? I think I got the demon down to half health before dying.

Oh so you are talking about the big door in the room with the Asylum Demon? If that's the case, he drops the key you need.

And yeah, if you aren't walking through white fog to get to him, you probably aren't ready to fight him yet.

That's stil ruddy mysterious. I've already walked through the white fog. I've got my sword, shield, and bow, but I can't get through the damn door. I thought it was an amount of souls that you need (have 480) but that doesn't seem to be the case. I wish I paid more attention the first time I made it through that door for the second time.

Here's a less vague hint: You don't enter through that door when it's time to fight him.

Ya know, I have no idea how I made it BACK into the demon's lair at some point. That must have been a bug. Turns out:

Spoiler:

I didn't realize that the stupid boulder guy opened up that section to get to the knight. I am an idiot.

OH! So you are still in the asylum. Yeah I found that part a bit confusing there for a bit as well, I wasn't walking in the right area to trigger the boulder.

Yeah, I definitely somehow bugged it to get to the Asylum Demon the first time which screwed me up trying to figure out how to get to him. Anyways, I defeated the Asylum Demon after a few tries. I wasn't really satisfied with the boss combat. At any rate, I'm sure I'll figure things out.

Blergh, hit a wall in that last section of Anor Londo with the Royal Sentinels. I know how to kill them, I just can't pull it off reliably. Once you're close enough to hit them it's tricky to see which attack they're about to do.

Contemplated just running past em, but that would mean soloing O&S.

Time for a break and will come back to it another day, I think.

I ran up and around to summon Solaire first, since he's on the other side of that hall. Makes those guys a bit easier.

I don't even want to think about the time I spent getting to the first bell on the PS3. That was the last thing I did before getting pulled away last time. This time around on PC, it took be just over 4 hours of play - the skills I developed came back! I've played a lot of games where it seems impossible to return and flourish (most MMOs for example). It amazes me how quickly I was able to progress this time around.

Well, I just had a 5 hour drive turn into a 9 hour drive. Let's see if Dark Souls + craft beer can salvage this miserable day.

EDIT: @Fedaykin98, let me know if/when you're available to co-op the gaping dragon sometime this week. I remember you expressed some intrest in that a few pages back.

Not a bad idea - I'd been aiming to summon him afterwards to have him at max health for O&S, but your way makes more sense.

Now that the holidays are over, I'm available pretty much any night after around 8:30 Central.

Okay so finally have some time to jump in and play. It seems DSfix is a must get, but I heard it was buggy with multiplayer?

That works for me. I'll be on tonight and tomorrow around then. I'm at SL35 now, and if I understand summoning right that means your character has to be between level 22 and 48.

Only if you mess with the framerate.

Well, I got a voucher for 2 free gold live days which I think I'll be using when I have three days off straight in order to prime one of my characters for multi-player. That means I'll be adding G'jers to my live profile in preparation for jolly cooperation.

On a side note, a friend of mine gifted me the UK version of Demons Souls. He's been collecting and hitting platinum on various versions of the game - talk about dedication - and having blazed through the UK version, he figured it would be a good gift for me. Good? It's an awesome gift!

Also, in case you missed it, head to Nexus Mods to get the text and UI mods. They make a huge difference. If you have any questions about DSfix, I can probably help as I just spent a lot of time with it. If you have a GPU that can handle it, downsampling is the way to go.

Edit: To give an idea of how much it's worth it, the game looks just about as good as The Witcher 2 once you mod everything. Most of that is due to the art design, but still...

My friend got me Dark Souls for Christmas, and despite me being nobody's idea of a hardcore game player I think I might enjoy this a lot even if it is unforgiving.

Sorry if this has been addressed, but does everyone on PC run the 1080p patch? I installed v2.01 and performance seemed acceptable and I didn't see many glitches, but I haven't gotten far at all. only a couple of bonfires in.

Many of us seem to be running it. The consensus is to avoid unlocking the framerate, as it messes up the game play, causes multiplayer glitches, and might get you banned on GFWL.

I'm also a long way from hardcore, but I'm definitely enjoying it.

Yup, that patch (well, mod, strictly) is pretty much essential. Just don't change the framerate if you want to be able to do multiplayer. I'd also strongly recommend playing with a xbox controller if you have one.

I never, ever play games on Hard (Amalur doesn't count), but I LOVE this series.

Good to know. And yeah, I get some RSI pain from using the mouse for prolonged periods, so these days I use a controller on most games that have the option, and vary my input devices as much as possible. I beat Torchlight 2 with a Wacom tablet

Ha! Yeah, DSfix and the text/UI mods are essential. Get the text/UI mods at http://darksouls.nexusmods.com/. If you have the GPU power, downsample the resolution. I just went through the whole process, so if you have any questions, just ask. I'm downsampling from 3840x2160 to 2560x1440. It's gorgeous. That combined with a little FXAA pretty much eliminates any aliasing.

Not sure exactly how close I am to the end, but I at least found the end area. Just need to collect a few main boss souls first then I'm off to unlock the last stage :D

Yeah, it's definitely looking more and more like I won't be finishing by the start of the new year. I think I've got at least three or four more bosses to go, but I'm pretty sure there won't be enough time tomorrow (today now, I guess) to burn through what I have left. Ah well, I gave it a decent try, but I plan to have my first playthrough done for by the end of the week. From there I'll probably just create a new character with a more magic focus. This dex build was fun, but I think I made him a bit too squishy and not enough oomph. I've basically had to play every boss to the point where I can't get hit. I'm still not sure how the hell I managed to take out Seath after 10+ tries. Guess I just got lucky with the way his(?) attacks played out.

Play the DLC!

Hey Fedaykin98 you only play Dark Souls on Xbox? or PC? Obviously you play Demon Souls on PS3, I'll add you there if that's all right.
