Gaming Confessions & Blasphemy

It's been around since I was a girl, and was just perfectly suited to this type of game. And sometimes it was good for morale too! You'd click one, "done this", again, "already covered", once more, "done it already", click again "oh okay! I see what I was missing now!" And just like that you'd get unstuck and get going again.
At the time, you had a standalone program with freeware of sorts, so you had to buy for each set of hint system. Otherwise you only got the first two hints.

But I'll let everyone get back to their regularly scheduled confessions.

I am really enjoying Sim City 2013...vanilla...no mods. Been playing it for days too.

I skipped Witcher 1. I haven't started 2 yet, and maybe I'll go back, but after starting 1 for a few hours, I just couldn't continue. Something about the Menu UI and the apparent lack of direction or information that the player is given on how to operate the game itself (though combat instructions were well done.) kind of killed it for me. Things that look clickable in the menu aren't, and vice versa.

I just bought another Xbox 360 instead of an Xbox One.

I bought a second hand Gamecube, SNES, N64, PS/1 and PS/2 instead of an Xbox One ! (they were cheaper!)

I bought a tuna sandwich instead of an Xbox One! It was delicious!

TUNA SANDWICH, OFF!

Tuna sandwich, go home.

You can tuna fish but you can't tuna Xbox one.

On a similar note, I find at times that my purchase plans laid months in advance will completely fall apart at zero hour. I'll spend months, if not longer, hotly anticipating a new piece of hardware or software, only to find myself completely disinterested when the dang thing launches. Or more accurately, completely distracted by something I had no idea I'd be into all those months earlier.

A couple examples.

I love, love, LOVED the Sony PSP. Had a metric ton of games for it as well. When the VITA was announced, I knew I'd be there Day One. The hardware looked so darn sexy, I couldn't wait.

Then I got my first iPhone. Suddenly, all my on-the-go needs were being met on multiple fronts though a single device. VITA launch day came and went an I wasn't interested in the least.

Same goes for Xbox One. Diehard Xbox fan. Owned the first two consoles and had my most memorable gaming moments for over a decade between them.

Then I got back into PC gaming thanks to a burning desire to play Euro Truck Simulator 2. I simply haven't looked back since. And I've absolutely zero desire to pick up a new console as the PC genres I've gravitated toward and now spend 99% of my time with are scarcely represented on consoles at all.

I'm having that issue right now. I've been insanely excited for Splatoon for the last year, but now that it's almost here I'm neck-deep in Final Fantasy XIV and am not sure I'll get it.

I really liked that PSOne-era requirement of switching discs for long games. It helped break larger games up into smaller pieces and helped you chart your progress through the game without having to look up whether the content you were doing now was near the actual ending or just the inevitable false ending.

Thread necro!

So Gravey posted on my backloggery urging me to try Euro Truck Simulator 2. Tried it. Hate it. I can back a (admittedly smaller) trailer around blind corners between a house and tree and down a tight boat ramp in raging thunderstorms (heavy rain, lightning and thunder, reduced visibility, friend in the water, so under pressure) in real life, but not into a straight slot in this. The rest was so boring (the truck I used seemed to have a governor on it limiting me to the 2nd slowest thing on the road) and the view angle so narrow I never felt I had any ability to have situational awareness. Maybe a physical wheel instead of a gamepad would have helped, but I consider that a failing of the game that it doesn't give the right in game feedback.

I pretty much knew in the back of my head going in I wouldn't like it (and actually, I think it exceeded my expectations of not liking it) as emulation of reality in games does nothing for me, at best. I would rather go do it for real, if I want to do it at all. This is the reason I never want to even bother with sports games. I can see why some might like this, but not why there is so much praise that this is heralded as a must play game.

You are dead to me.

Aw I can't stay mad at someone else who found all the diamonds in Far Cry 2.

Without trying to persuade you (if it's not for you, fair enough!), I can answer this question: it's the Citizen Kane of mundane simulator games. Because of its polish and depth (juxtaposed with the unconventional subject), the quality of the physics and handling, the graphical quality both of the truck models and the world, the decent business management sim, and the unceasing support and updates the game continues to receive. And then for many people it surprisingly clicked, hence recommendations for still more to discover something they might never have glanced at.

I still can't decide if Euro Truck or Farming Sim are the Citizen Kane of Mundane Vehicle Simulators.

My vote goes for Farming Simulator but I know Euro Truck has a stronger casual following. On the flip side, I think FS is far more popular with Sim nerds. Has a staggering amount of mod support as well (though Euro Truck is nothing to sneeze at either).

Man, I was into ETS2 before it wasn't cool to not like it.

I've been rationalising my small collections of PS4 games and have spent 3 days being annoyed that I couldn't find the box for Dragon Age: Inquisition before realising I'd bought it digitally.

Also I have a new car with all the bells and whistles (bells and whistles are the law in the UK. It's all the fog and heavy rain) and the thing I'm most excited about is a little USB connector that will allow me to listen to podcasts.

My current car is the first one I've owned with an aux in socket and I was equally excited.

My car has an Aux port but I am getting tired of buying cables every year. Just had to buy one a week or two ago. Went with a flat style cable this time. I have tried cheap cables and expensive cables and everything in between they always wear out after a year to year and a half.

My car was in the shop for a few days a couple of weeks ago and the rental car I had had Bluetooth. That was really nice. If Best Buy had had a Bluetooth receiver that had controls on the receiver I would have got one instead of another cable. Next time I start having issues I plan to order one of these.

My car is too old to have an Aux In jack (although I could get something that plugs into the back of the stereo head unit and turns the OEM CD Changer into an Aux jack).

So instead, I use a FlexSmart2 for Bluetooth between my phone, have the USB 2A port on it for charging, and then use it's Aux Out to an old-school tape adapter (because VW still had tape decks in cars built in 2005).

Finally dumped the old minivan and replaced it with a 2016 Pilot about a month and a half ago; the radio is literally just an older Android 4.2.2 tablet on the dashboard, all touchscreen, and it syncs with my phone perfectly. I put widgets for Slacker, Google Play Music, and Podcast Addict on my phone's home screen, along with shortcuts to my favorite Slacker stations. So, I get in my car, my phone magically starts talking to my car, and, thanks to T-Mobile unlimited data, I just stream whatever the hell I want right through my speakers. It's unspeakably awesome.

They gave me a 90-day Sirius XM subscription with the new car and keep trying to get me to renew it. Uh, no thanks, guys, I think I got this covered.

I can just plug a USB stick into mine with a few episodes on. FI can flip between episodes and choose what to listen to. It even resumes the podcast where I left off after I've been out of the car.

I've got one like that (this one), hooked to a cable and permanently plugged into one of these via a right angle usb that I'm going to hide completely from view soon once I do a minor bit of dremel work. The bluetooth will sit in the open bay under the head unit so I can hit the buttons to reconnect. It also has volume buttons that double as forward / back a track that I find useful.

My friend was able to tap into his 12v lead and hook up one of these in his and his dad's cars. I went the safer route and avoided tapping into wires, after checking to make sure the unit didn't draw power through the lighter port when the car was off. My wife's Xterra has one port that is always on, while the others (3 total) aren't.

I got myself one of these four months ago, and I love it. I ran the wires under the molding so it's out of the way. I listen to a lot of serial podcasts on my 60 minute commute, so I rarely even have to take my iPod out of my work. I just push the button and off it goes.
