How to generate clicks?

In the video thread I've linked to an inane fake political attack ad that was done for a class project. The project is graded by how many views a video can get. It's considerably harder to get people to click on a video than I thought. Does anyone have suggestions for ways to drive views? I've tagged the video with topical tags and posted it to a few places like Reddit, but clearly I'm missing something fundamental.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The video is here.

No advice for you but you can add one of those views as being mine. Good luck!

I'd still vote for the Bulldog over Romney.

Yeah that's a bit of a sucky way to have your assignment rated. But you got a view from me.

Tits.

That's why so many videos have pictures of near-topless women in the thumbnail, even if it doesn't have anything to do with the subject.

Pulling stupid faces also helps, as does the promise of violence.

Watched and posted to FB.

Hey, this is awesome. Thanks! I agree it's a lame way to grade an assignment.

1dgaf, you're probably right, but I think that's a situation that may help me win the battle but lose the war. Maybe I can go with the stupid faces.

Well there is a soft hack you can do.

Basically you edit your own Java Script, up the views displayed.

It changes nothing on youtube. But if all you need is a screengrab for the grade, you are fine.

He's right. Sadly.

Edit: Also, putting a bazillion tags with things like "Obama" might help.

In regard to your video specifically, a shot of Roderick should be your thumbnail. Cats draw in viewers.

Just popping in to say that when I glanced at the side bar the c and l in clicks looked like they merged into one letter. I loled.

Nice.

Garion, do you think cats do better than dogs?

There is lolcatz but no loldogz. Enough said =P

Not if it's a marketing assignment. But I suspect it's not. :/

There is loldogz, but tehy r not az popular.

You could pay people to click it. Seriously. Go to a crowdsourcing site like Amazon Mechanical Turk and pay people 1 penny each to click on the video.

Fair point, but I also think it depends how you pitch it. If specified the problems with getting views - and said you merely gave the machine what it wanted, that would be a prelude to making a more detailed point on doing what's right for the content and what's right for the channel.

Incidentally, have you looked at the YouTube partner guide? They basically cite stupid faces as a way to get good hits.

Call it "Halo 4 Review: 1 out of 5". Works for Tom Chick.

In penance for the useless post, I have clicked.
