2012: Unofficial GWJ Secret Santa 6.0 feat. Trichy Claus

Thanks. I hope I never have to breach anything. Maybe I'll have to chop a branch at some point in the spring.

It doesn't make a bad camp axe either. It is a lot lighter than most other hatchets and being made of 420 stainless, it is a lot more resistant to the weather. It fits beautifully in those loops most packs have for ice axes and/or trekking poles.

I just got a package from Secret Santa SillyRabbit! Many thanks for the gracious gifts. Pics to follow later.

On another note, I'm hoping to get my Santee's package in the mail tomorrow. There's still hope it may arrive by Christmas.

Hmmm. UPS has just delivered something from ThinkGeek. What could this be? I will wait until the bride gets home to document before opening:)

*Edit*

I couldn't wait. Stan - you have done well! Your Stantee is seriously impressed! Will post pics later!

Name thyself!

I knew I had a special relationship with Edwin but I didn't know how special it was until I opened the first package (intentional word usage)

I'm not a rum guy (yet) and upon seeing it my first thought was, "oh good, I was thinking about making nog for the first time." And then I read your EXTREMELY helpful note and my second thought was, "I'm an idiot." So now I won't waste any of this =) I could not be more excited to try it.

Edwin, thank you so much. This was incredibly thoughtful and the personal touches made it 100 times better (and it started at 'amazing'). I didn't take a picture of the poster because I was sure I would ruin it. It's staying in the tube until it gets framed =)

Hooray for unboxing pics!

That rum looks really yummy.

Woot for awesome c*ck sauce, booze and chocolate. The three perfect ingredients for a date.

Very impressive, Edwin! Most impressive.

So this is what good rum tastes like, eh?

I'm having one of those, "my entire life has been a lie" moments.

f- captain morgan.

You are the king, Edwin.

I hope someday someone will send a Swaydora's Box to someone as their gift. Let them open the scary box.

Also, you guys are awesome. I would have liked to participate this year but I only bought a gift for one person this year due to lack of funds.

Bennard, check your Steam mailbox for the last part of your gift. Hope you enjoy!

Edwin's letter makes me wonder if Puerto Rico has a Rum Party pushing for sovereignty, just for the rum party. Sounds worthwhile!

I've sent followup emails to a few Secret Stantees whose victims haven't heard anything yet. Let me know if there's a problem, and I will help sort it out. But let's make sure no one comes away disappointed!

Your king demands action shots of you wearing the boxers drinking the rum with the girls in the shirts I sent them.

Heh. We'll play that by ear. I can certainly promise you some of that.

Man, if I check the thread tomorrow morning and the outcome of that is a picture of a drunk penguin wearing nothing but boxers on his head I will be peeved.

Because we all knew what you meant.

Awesome! First gift from the haul - XCOM! Thanks, Dimmer. I was planning to grab it during the Steam sales, but this is way better.

And now I'm eagerly anticipating this box I've heard so much about...

WHAT'S IN THE BOX?!

Oh Holy Hand Grenade! Wow. I just got the best present ever.

Unfortunately, there is something wrong with my photo server otherwise I would post pics. Suffice it to say that Rainsmercy definitely gets me.

AWESOMENESS INCOMING

Came home from work today to see a fairly large package sitting on my doorstep from Golden Colorado. I almost got it all the way downstairs before I started ripping the top open.

Upon opening I was slightly confused. There was a used work glove sitting on top of the padding. Was is part of the gift?
IMAGE(http://i.imgur.com/tHC4S.jpg)

Was it a homemade puppet with floppy black ears and its tongue hanging out?

I dug further into the strangeness and found a slim amazon box on the side. Opened it and there was a flat, wrapped, slightly weighty square. Also a piece of wrapping paper shaped just like a bottle that felt like liquid when I shook it around. I'm not a rocket scientist, but I figured this was some kind of liquor.

This is the place where I would post pictures of the wrapping paper, had I not excitedly ripped right into it before thinking about taking pictures.

The flat, square? Totally The Black Keys - Attack and Release!

I f*cking love this album! f*cking. Love it. (So glad I shared my Amazon wishlist)

First thing I did was throw it on and listen to the last song, Things Ain't Like They Used To Be. I can't explain what this song does to me. It's so good. I turned the stereo up, sat back and closed my eyes, and listened to it in it's entirety.
IMAGE(http://i.imgur.com/HKpxE.jpg)

Inspected the record further and saw that it came with a cd copy of the album, too!
IMAGE(http://i.imgur.com/GzIk4.jpg)

Opened the bottle-ish thingy and you know what it was?

Socks.

Haha! Totes jk! It was whiskey!
IMAGE(http://i.imgur.com/KiJOt.jpg?1)

Stranahan's Colorado whiskey. Straight from the Rocky Mountains. I'm sure it's no surprise when I say that I've never had this. Reading the label makes me feel like this is a special liquid distilled with love. I love me some whiskey and some scotch.
IMAGE(http://i.imgur.com/avQC4.jpg?1)

I like the cork.
IMAGE(http://i.imgur.com/zzVcc.jpg)

This is actually a pretty big deal for me. More than you may know, Santa. I buy myself a bottle of Scotch every year for my birthday. In June of 2011 my work closed down and I was laid off. I spent the following 14 months with no job, looking for work. I was not able to get myself the bottle of Scotch this year. Well, things have swung 180 and I have a good job, now, so I'm alright. But, I never belatedly bought myself my 2012 birthday gift.

So, Santa, this is the first bottle of whiskey I've opened since before my life was flipped upside down, then flipped rightside up again. It signals a new beginning. I flipped Attack and Release over to side A and let it play. I opened the bottle and poured some into the small cap that I am guessing is for that purpose. This is a celebration, GWJ Santa. A celebration of things to come. Of things turning around. Of enjoying the small, beautiful things in life, like good music and good drink. A celebration of the kindness of (kinda) strangers. Of the incredible little corners of the internet. Of me. Of you. Of community.

This whiskey is delicious. Like, really f*cking delicious. It's so smooth. It doesn't have some of the rougher flavor usually associated with a Tennessee whiskey or a bourbon. I can't wait to share some with my friends.

I raise my glass to you, Liquidmantis. You give good Santa. You santa'd the sh*t out of this Christmas for me.

Cheers, mate.

Excellent! I've been anticipating the unboxing and your write-up makes me feel really good about my picks. The glove I threw in for the WTF? factor as I was running low on stashed padding material. It was a welding glove cum grilling glove cum dog chew toy when my pup got ahold of it. I figured it fit it thematically with the flame-retardant clothes on your wishlist. So thanks for all the words, I'm glad it was well-received.

It makes me feel bad that I haven't been able to do the same for my Santa Shoptroll. Unfortunately sickness has been working through my household so we haven't had a chance to play the game. I think I might haul it down to Texas when we head to my 'rents though. Then I can drag my brother in as well.

I don't think I'd touch that glove.

My Santa has still not claimed his rightful place as a prince among men! I am waiting until the weekend to do the pics, but rest assured - they will be forthcoming?

Demonbox, to be further known as Demon Santa, hath delivered!

Firstly, acting as my diabolical secret santa, he contributed in my name to the Sportfriends Kickstarter; true to my moniker, a smorgasboard of indie treats are en route, and I've cause to acquire enough Move controllers to frighten and entrance my friends. A masterful play.

The second half of the gift was held in reserve, as a surprise. It arrived last night. I tore it open. I frightened the dog.

A 120+ decibel solid brass tactical whistle! Very cool, and a fine addition to the survivalist that my wife assures me is not befitting of a yuppie, even one gone rural.

IMAGE(http://i.imgur.com/bV5z8.jpg)
Undeterred, the whistle found its place of honor on the Jeep's keychain. For verily, the Jeep, like this whistle, shall Survive.

A terrible picture was required. Do not deny Demon Santa.

I hope that means you finally got the second package and if so, let me now so I can esplain the story behind it:) I was very excited when I thought it up and learned some new skills while making it

It is truly gorgeous. I haven't decided if I want to hit it with stropping paste yet or leave it virgin.

Glad you like it!

Along time ago, we were talking about the leather work I do and you mentioned maybe having me make you a strop. So I did....years later I made it doublesided in case you wanted to do two different grits of paste. I used red oak, cut the handle out using a jig saw, and sanded it down with lighter grit till I got to 220. I then did 1 coat of tung oil, let it dry overnight then used steel wool to sand it down. I then did a second coat of tung oil, let it dry over night then used steel wool again. I then took 8-9oz leather and glued to both sides using barge cement, that stuff will last a long long time. I trimmed the leather around the edges and burnished the leather a bit to make it smooth. Tadah, you now have a two sided strop, or a blunt force weapon to use on zombies when you run out of ammo. Oh and please post pictures when you can, I forgot to before I sent it off:)

WHAT'S IN THE BOX?!

Glad XCOM was a success (and glad I got in before you'd picked it up for yourself).

I know I'd said I would PM you the tracking number, but my car is currently buried under the blizzard we've had over the past 36 hours, so that'll happen when I manage to dig it out. In terms of what's in the box? I don't think it's too big a hint to say that you strike me as a thirsty fellow.

My secret stan gave me a tracking number, which has revealed how annoying USPS is. 2 days late and counting. Apparently it will take 2 days to travel 20 miles.

I can't believe I missed this! Argh! Just wait till next year!!
