NFL 2012 Week 9 Thread

What's up with this season and the easy picks? Was there this many 5-0 and 4-1 weeks from folks last year?

And it seems a ton of us all have the same picks for this week. Is it the season, or are the games we are selecting easier this year?

from my experience to win my pickem non spread pool (200 people give or take) you need to be in the 75% range.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/picks

Morternsen and Wickersham are pitching 82/118 and 83/118 which is 69%.

I'm at 78 minus the first game of the season for 78/117 = 66% and I'm tied with 12 people 1 back of 2 people at 79.

I've been trying to track the games and its a strange year. Close games are predictable whereas teams in the 20-30% range are pulling upsets consistently.

I read a good article at grantland today though where things are going to even out quickly. The way the schedule has played out for some teams has been almost easiest in the league and its about to flip to hardest down the stretch.

NFL parity league in action also.

edit:

blanked out the names but heres the weekly winners and averages of 207 people.

Week # Winner (Score) Avg Score
8 ******* (13) 8.65
7 ******* (13) 10.42
6 ******* (11) 6.09
5 ******* (13) 9.66
4 ******* (14) 10.40
3 ******* (11) 6.54
2 ******* (14) 7.55
1 ******* (14) 10.56

brackets is winning total for the week by tiebreaker of monday night score.

And this is the first year with Thurs games every week. Short/long weeks are probably affecting things.

100% if I cared to take more then 5 seconds last week to look at the minny bucs game I would of taken TB. Still smarting from that.

Panthers at Redskins
Bears at Titans
Buccaneers at Raiders
Steelers at Giants
Lions at Jaguars

Redskins - I can't take the Panthers against anyone at this point. And I don't see the Washington wide outs having the terrible dropsies they had last week.
Bears - That defense is too good for many teams to even compete. And that offense has too many weapons to flounder forever. When they do click Bears might be the most dangerous team in the league.
Raiders - At home.
Steelers - Much like the Titans game a few weeks ago was the type of game Pittsburgh always loses, this is the kind of game they always win.
Lions - But I don't feel good about it. Neither of these teams feel like they have enough of an identity this year for me to be confident either way.

Panthers at Redskins - the skins are not good but the kitty cats are really bad
Bears at Titans - sorry Gumbie
Buccaneers at Raiders - meh
Steelers at Giants - day of game travel: tough luck
Lions at Jaguars - Just hoping the Lions play somewhat up to their potential for a change

Best sign of the year so far, from last night's game:

I haven't read jowner's Barnwell article yet, but I feel like the Texans have only two tough teams remaining - Chicago and New England.

There's some at least mild cockiness for Gumbie.

Panthers at Redskins - no, that is not a wnba score 57-48 skins
Bears at Titans
Buccaneers at Raiders
Steelers at Giants
Lions at Jaguars

Hmmm, same picks as me. I guess I go 3-2 this week. :/

Come on man this ain't the NCAA. No gimme games in the NFL. ANY given Sunday.

Agreed. No gimme games.

Unless you're playing Tennessee.

In either league.

Btw in all seriousness, I read that article and Barnwell agrees with me - he's predicting the Texans finish 13-3.

Colts might give the Texans problems. They are better than most people give them credit for.

[quote=Fedaykin98]Agreed. No gimme games.

Unless you're playing Tennessee.

Or Kansas City.

When the Head Coach says he doesn't know why the best player on the team only five times in a game, well, something's rotten in Arrowhead.

Oh noes, open quote alert!

Open quote!?!? We need to get to 27!

Romeo flipped a coin to determine his qb while with the Browns. Maybe he couldn't answer that question because he didn't see how the coin landed?

Calm thyselves, unwashed masses, for I have flexed my forum coding and closed the quote!

I think the Steelers are better without Polamalu.

What led you to that conclusion?

I keep seeing him blow coverages. I was mostly talking out my ass, mostly.

Redskins:Cam Newton has a good day. RGIII has a better one.

Bears:Mr Forte, dinner is served.

Buccaneers:You can throw all day on the Raiders. Another 3 TD day for Freeman.

Steelers:Game of the week. The Giants are about to start their mid-season slide.

Lions: The running game's still weak, but Stafford has more weapons than Jacksonville can handle.

Just copied AnimeJ, I agree with him!

Saw this on ESPN:

In the interim, the league has granted Payton permission to work for Saints owner Tom Benson's NBA New Orleans team, and the suspended head coach has been doing some spot work there to earn income.

Yeah, I guess Payton is emptying the wastebaskets and washing the windows for some spare change.

Looks like only 2 4pm games again today.
