Galaxies wasn't enough?

I don't want MMORPG's mixed in with my single player game dream.

Nothing has managed to match the fun and complexity of Wing Commander: Privateer, IMO. Freelancer was a decent effort but while the mouse controls worked there's just something more that attracts me to cockpit-based joystick action. I loved Starlancer as well so I was a bit disappointed Freelancer wasn't in the same vein...

Really?

I mean, really?

Do you guys actually love Star Wars that much? Because I kind of want to groan. They haven't even made a new movie yet and I'm already sick of the universe.

Yes, I do. I really want more movies from the Expanded Universe that don't center totally around the damn Jedi. Its ok if the Jedi are in the stories but, I want to hear more about the regular heroes.

I'm still waiting for my open world, Star Wars, Elite style game where I get to be pirate/trader/bounty hunter. I thought it was only a few years away during the period of Freelancer, but the genre died shortly thereafter.

My dream game is an open-world (galaxy?) game that mixed the story and role-playing of KOTOR, the first-person action of Dark Forces, and the flight sim elements of X-Wing. That would be glorious... and will never happen.

We could hand it to Ubisoft, but then each "mini game" would work beautifully, but none of them would stitch together cohesively.

They'd accurately simulate the Millennium Falcon's engine problems all right. And the original release schedule. Twenty years between first and second trilogies? Done and done.

Not nearly as entertained as I am.

Oh no.

Old Han Solo should never be a thing not ever

Yeah I don't really want to see it. It isn't that he hasn't aged fine. He is exactly what people look like when they hit that age, but it isn't going to sell movie tickets.

Spoiler:

then it will come as no surprise when he goes sith.

Focusing on Solo and Fett are good starts, for me. I f*cking hate Jedi. I find them so boring. Great characters to have around but not having an emotional character around them...ugh.

I'm less worried about Han Solo in Ep VII than I am the other reason this is likely happening - a future "Young Han Solo" film. Ford's performance in the OT, while maybe not technically a great display of acting chops, is so iconic it's hard to imagine anyone else playing the character in a way that isn't grating. Meanwhile, young folks like my nephew, who inexplicably enjoy the PT more than the OT (friggin' kids!), don't seem interested in the character much to begin with. I can't imagine how seeing him as an old man is going to sway them.

Why are Harrison Ford's characters always the ones that get prequel series as children?

Well, yes. I guess a more appropriate question is why producers and directors keep thinking that translates to a version of the character played by an entirely different actor?

Vector wrote:

My friends and I discussed this before as well. The lightsaber seemed so cool when you were a kid, and something still seems cool about it in the OT, but when you see them flying around everywhere it's kind of like "Okay, yeah, they're pretty...everywhere. Yeah." Same goes with Jedi. If you have a whole bunch of robed guys doing all this crazy stuff then it becomes average.

To paraphrase The Incredibles, when everyone is special, no one is.

Which is one of the reasons it always confused me that people seemed to really cling to the Jedi. I thought they were cool, but there were a whole bunch of other awesome characters as well.

Plus, their role in the prequels just doesn't seem to fit. Then again, what WERE they supposed to be? What's with the robed look? Are they monks? They have a very Zen philosophy, but they are very involved in war and politics. Are they supposed to be samurai? They don't look it.

Bah.
