Sword of the Stars 2

That was actually two patches ago and they fixed that mplayer crash we encountered. Definetly still has some issues and the UI absolutly still needs work. But aside from scenarios all of the gameplay functionality is in the game and working.

Free expansion: End of Flesh. Awesome name.

Finally got Win7 and I think I will be giving this game a try tonight. Any suggestions for a first run through?

Humans or Tarkas. They are the easiest to get going in, at least until you have the game figured out. Humans travel by node lines between star system; the big map shows where you can go. Tarkas move by a traditional sci-fi "hyperspace" mechanic, so can go anywhere but it may take a long time. The other races have other FTL mechanics that seem more advanced and/or are hard to get going in a game. Like the Liir (I think those are the guys I am thinking of) make gates between star systems. Once a gate is set up, travel is instantaneous, but setting up a gate takes forever since you can't FTL until the gate is set up.

Get Jam3 to teach it to you. It will make it better, at least somewhat.

Nah, the Hivers do the gate thing. The Liir go faster according to how many ships are with the group I think. They're the bird people, right?

I tried playing last night. It wasn't broken, but I didn't have the patience to learn how to play a 4X game last night. I played GTA IV for an hour instead.

Yeah, you are right, the Hivers. The Liir are the dolphin things I thought. The Morrigi are the birds. They do the group thing. The Liir do something else, I can't remember.

Edit: The Liir use a "stutter" drive. Also fixed spelling of "Morrigi"

The game won't to start. I am annoyed!!

Edit:
Apparently this is the fix:
go into the steam folder in your directory and open up the game file, there are several exe files in the various folders run all of them to reinstall the various required programs apparently for some odd reason they were not being installed hense the game wasnt running.

I am too lazy to do this right now, I will wait for Steam/the developers to get this going.

Man I love the LOA voice work it reminds me of the Bentusi.

Pretty sure its going to be out tommorrow I'll sit on goojer vent if anyone want to mess around with multiplayer or just learn the game, which I am still learning after 200 hours of play just fyi (and 800 or so hours of sots1.

Space Sector review of the Enhanced Edition.

It'll probably answer a lot of the "should I?" questions.

Well done review. The game he described has most of the same strengths and weaknesses from SotS 1. Great research, ship design, and combat marred by bad AI, diplomacy, and discoverability/documentation. Last time that made for a formula I ended up having a pretty good time with, so I think I'll finally give this one a shot too. To the pile with you!

Seem I never tagged this thread.

I'm trying out the first game first, and then will drop back into the second in a few days/weeks. My play time isn't big at this time.
