Arrow: New CW show to replace Smallville

Pages

I did not see a thread, and considering I just polished off Green Lantern-Green Arrow, I was a bit curious to see the show.

I watched the first couple of seasons of Smallville, but fell out of favor. I am curious as to what anyone else might think about the show, if they liked it. By the ratings, this was one of CW's biggest premieres in the last 5 years.

I am liking the show enough as a guilty pleasure. Supposedly John Barrowman is going to make a presence in the show, and a little Capt. Jack is always good for me. And there is a sizable role for Paul Blackthorne (Harry Dresden in The Dresden Files show)

A little Capt. Jack is good for anyone

I've been interested in this show, as I do enjoy me some Green Arrow, but keep forgetting to set up the DVR to record it.

Needs more boxing glove arrows and fishnets.

I'm not exactly kidding, it seems odd for Ollie to be merking the working man bodyguards left and right, and leaving the bosses unscathed.

This really stuck out to me as well. Random goon number twelve? Eh, eat an arrow. Leader guy who's responsible for every terrible thing in the entire organization? Maybe we'll just leave him for the cops.

...

What?

Just saw the pilot. I can see potential, it's all a little awkward at the moment, but I think the writers and actors will grow into the show. Not sure how far ahead the US is here,so I'm probably saying the obvious.

We just got Ep 2 this week, so I think you are relatively recent.

Oh, wow. That's impressive. Our networks are getting much better about keeping current.

Well I've now watched all 9 episodes of this and I'm hooked. It's actually pretty good. It's definitely got its flaws, but for the most part it's quite an interesting little plot.

So anyone know what the frig is going on?

A guy dressed in green is attacking crime bosses. Captain Jack used his time device to go back in time to stop Robin Hood. Deathstroke got stuck on a island and somehow became a smoke monster. Oliver Queen is like some kind of god creature that fights against the smoke monster. If the smoke monster leave the island the world will become a dream. Harry Dresden a wizard working on the police force uses that old black magic to put people under his spell. He really doesn't like Robin Hood because Robin Hood is friends with Clark Kent. Magic is one of the few things that can hurt Clark Kent, a super man if you will. Dresden wants to hurt this super man but Robin Hood wont let him. Lex Luther, the president of the United States, is really a bad guy that has nothing to do with the show, just thought it was cool. Diggle the bodyguard of Robin Hood was rescued from the dungeons of dredmor and is now one of Hood's merry men. Merry men only like men not women because women are gross. Oh and Oliver is Robin Hood.

That is a truly phenomenal piece of descriptive madness. Brave, I say, bravo.

I really didn't care for Smallville (I watched seasons 1 and 2, where a person got super powers from Kryptonite every week and that guy who fancied Lana's truck got smashed on almost as regular a basis) but Arrow has been a surprise favourite for me this year. I've read enough Green Arrow comics to get the more oblique references and let's just say that Captain Jack Merlyn was less than a surprise, but my wife, who has never read a comic, really likes the show as well.

Pfft, clearly the backstory is just ripping off the new Tomb Raider game.

Was gonna try and watch on On Demand but only episodes 2, 7,8,9? I think were available, so wouldn't make any sense to me and I don't have netflix.

I imagine it will hit Netflix this summer, like Supernatural does. We really like the show, but this is not must see TV either.

They've been running reruns during the winter break. The Lost elements are goofy to me but there are worse shows.

Baron, some of your fanfic leaked through the internet.

Watched the entire series so far as well. It's got enough of the "Fantastical-abilities-married-to-realism", relatively good production values, physicality of the main character (not so much of the shoddy "The Cape" CG Effects) and character interaction that makes it just Pop! for me. So far so good! Here's hoping they can maintain!

I think I'm even more confused. :p

I haven't seen this show yet but heads up that the pilot episode is on this Friday.

And lest it be overlooked, season one is on Netflix Instant Watch.

It's very funny reading my earlier post in this thread, given how well the show has dealt with my very issue, and how much I love the show now. The article posted is exactly correct.

Why ‘Arrow’ Is The Best Superhero Show On Television

Spoilers in that article, though at least one of them is flat out wrong.

Huh, I guess I'll have to give this show another try. I seem to remember watching an episode at the beginning and then never went back to it.

Watched the pilot and liked it! I'll stick with it.

"I AM COUNT VERTIGO AND I APPROVE THIS HIGH!"

I love The Count.

I got through 10 or so episodes of the first season and really like it. I don't know when I'll get back to it, though. I'm kind of having fun with games on the PS4.

Far be it for me to tell you how to spend your time, but I'd encourage you to catch up, because sh*t is getting Real, and selfishly I want someone responsive to talk about said sh*t with, even if it only extends to posting "OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD!" because OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGODCANYOUBELIEVETHISsh*tBUTHOWWHATWHYOHMYGOD!

Were you the one sold on Ben Browder, TB? Because his appearance is ep 11...

I saw that one, so I guess I'm a little further than I thought.

I really wish they'd have had him on a helicopter or plane so he could yell "Pilot!"

Here is my theory on season one given what has been revealed in season two so far:

Spoiler:

Malcolm Merlin was basically recruited and trained by the League of Assassins the same way Bruce Wayne was in the first Batman film, except he actually went through with what they wanted to do. Merlin is an interesting parallel to Batman in the sense that they have similar back stories, loosing someone close to them in a bad part of town, wandering the world for trainingand coming back to his home town changed.

In any case the the city is in the League's sights me thinks.

Ok, that was awesome!

Spoiler:

Merlin returning was bullsh*t, but I love it!

I am also watching the show. It is really good, and the 2nd season has just taken it to a new level. I can't wait to watch the latest episode.
