DW:U still has playable pirate factions, IIRC, and that hasn't made it to DW2 yet.
Better support for and more numerous mods is the big one for me. And tied into that, I'm still annoyed and the severely restricted number of factions in DW2.
In their defense it was almost a decade of patches and expansions between the original Distant Worlds launch and Universe.
So does Factorio count as a space game now with Space Age?
Even if it does, I will never play it. My brain can't handle it.
So does Factorio count as a space game now with Space Age? :)
I did just build a ship and went to another planet. So I'd vote yay.
Factorio is a space game now! About to build nuclear power for the first time in the new version, rockets are next!
Accessed the THING last night and progressed the story to near the end. Now I know where and when my ship is and WTF is going on mostly.
Hopefully can finish it up in the next day or two.
Starcom Nexus finished late last night!
So.. I had to destroy a bunch of the new ships, build another thing, go back to the THING and do some stuff. Then talk to the other races, then one of them reminded me of this place to go. But I didn't have it marked on the map. So I checked the forums and got pointed to the right system, then duh, there was a green planet there signifying I could explore again and labeled with what it was. So I should have made my own marker I guess but didn't know it was important however many days ago I found it.
After that I got a quest to find 3 things. 2 of which I had already found and DID mark on my map as being conspicuous. But again, after that I had no clue... searched the forums. Found the 3 locations listed, with waypoints. The one I was missing was out in the damn middle of nowhere. Not sure if my base would have eventually said "hey weird signal coming from out there" or if I was supposed to talk to more aliens or what. If not for the forum though I would have wandered around for quite a while lost and frustrated.
After that the final battle was pretty easy but I had my ship mostly maxed for a long time now.
Still, satisfying conclusion and overall a really fun game.
So bought the 2nd before bed last night, or rather the collection that gets me an extra $2 off.
Not sure I will jump immediately into it. Probably need a palette cleanser. But I did poke around the reviews and forums and a lot of people say the quest system is much better and so I shouldn't have issues getting stuck or lost nearly as much as the first game.
As long as the combat and shipbuilding are still satisfying, I think it will be fun no matter what. Glad I stumbled upon these two little odes to Starflight.
Hey Veloxi or anybody... played Star Trucker?
Popped up in Steam today on weekend sale and it looks funny. Trucks, IN SPACE. But wondering if there's any meat there or just a silly concept.
I've not. I asked for a key and never got one, so I'm waiting for a deep sale.
Its.. fine. Got a lot of flavor and style, but not really deep enough to stick to I think and it's too stressful to qualify as a chill experience the way the other big trucker games do. They're a very small team so I'm impressed with what they've done. It's my hope they are able to continue to put out updates and maybe provide a mode/difficulty that's a bit more relaxed.
If you like the idea of it but are iffy on the execution, $20US is probably the right price to show some love. That's the current sale price.
I played the demo, and I agree with polypusher. It's fiddly, and not in the good way. Loved the art design on it though. They've still got the demo up--you should check it out and see if it vibes with you. It's not a bad game by any means.
Oh I didn't notice the demo. But yeah the reviews were like not quite truck simulator in space. So I wasn't sure.
Heck I need to spend more time in truck simulator. Had it for years from a bundle and never really played

So I just streamed it for two hours and it's infuriating. What it's lacking -- any kind of GPS or in-system map, lateral thrusters -- is instead taken up with mild survival elements like fixing my leaking hull and shit. It's almost player-hostile.
Decay mechanics in general frustrate the crap out of me. I am a 45 year old Dad of two little girls. I want to play games, not do chores.
The popularity of games like Powerwash Simulator suggest you're an outlier (so am I, I dont like those games)
Next question.
Space Prison? Yay or nay
Guess I should try the demo but just checking since it's on sale for 30% off for a week
That's quite an interesting one... Hmmm.
I bought Star Traders: Frontiers on a sale from the android play stores. I think this is one of Robear's favorites. Looks pretty interesting.
They are still putting out content patches every week!

I'm convinced they're androids.
We got a thread around here somewhere. I got it on Android and PC. Was disappointed I couldn't get saves to transfer between. There was some convoluted process someone figured out but you had to have an emulator on PC maybe? I could never get halfway through it.
Enjoy the last 2 pages where I finally sat down to play this about 18 months ago and all the fun stuff I learned.
It's one of the best iPad/Android games of all time.

It's no Crashlands, but it's neat.
You can lose yourself in it for the length of any transit ride, and it's got a ton of variety with the various storylines, ages and characters. It's just good, robust gaming for when you need it. It's like finding a good restaurant in an airport so you look forward to going there every time you have a layover. Dependable.
One dollar for both Rebel Galaxy and Rebel Galaxy Outlaw:

I cannot give it a bigger "Buy it You f*cks" recommendation.
Yeah might be worth buying again for PC even though I have them both for PS4 and Switch
