Space Sims/Strategy Games Catch-All

It's just a simple, relaxing puzzle game with cute mini-stories and decent music.

Any thoughts on Interstellaria?

Steam reviews mixed.

But it's FREE on indiegala right now. I added to my account but wondering if it's worth the time hehe.

It's got a nice Starflight aesthetic that's fun for a little while, worth checking out for free.

While I slowly lose hope that Distant Worlds 2 will get its act together and at least be as good as DW: U with a better UI, I thought I'd pick up Endless Space 2 in the Steam sale and give that a try.

Turns out I already own it, and put 40 hours into it at some point! The fact that I have no memory of doing so doesn't bode well for the likelihood that I'll enjoy more of it. I think instead I'll check out that open-source MOO1 spiritual successor that released earlier this year or late last year.

Remnants of the Precursors!

Have you played recently? Like post v1.0.4.8? I think it's pretty close, I've put ~175 hours in at this point. Of course I have not had any of the many many issues people had with it on release, so consider the source.

Thanks Veloxi! Giving it a try.

I haven't, but I definitely will. It's a game I want to love. One of the things that bothered me about the initial release was how sparse it felt when it came to faction choice. So I'm hoping if nothing else some mods will come along and add some from the original game back in.

If that's the issue, then you may want to wait some more. The last 2-3 big patches have been the first to not be OMGHAIRONFIREFIXTHEBUGS updates. I kind of feel like now they are where they hoped to be at or shortly after launch. Factions are still limited to the starting 8 that they shipped with.

Despite that, the game works pretty well now, at least for me. There is still some more polish to do and then I hope they add more playable factions, new mechanics, starting eras, etc. From what I have read, though, new factions are a lot harder to make in DW2 than they were in DW1/U, so I am not sure what to expect on that front. I do still have faith it will become better than DWU; it took the first game a good long while to become good (after the first DLC as I recall).

Endless Space 2 is an over produced glossy looking game without any real substance behind it. I don’t know why it’s that way - it really shouldn’t be - but it never held my interest beyond a handful of playthroughs.

Remnants of the Precursors, Stars in Shadow and Interstellar Space Genesis are all much better games and worth checking out. They might not look as good but your getting a full experience out of it.

What Science Fiction 4x doesn't end up with you having to have a zillion ships fight a zillion others? I played Stellaris, but it just got to be too much having to build and build ships to succeed. Is there a grand strategy one where they take into account that no matter how great your economy is, building space ships takes an extreme amount of resources. And going into battle (if diplomacy doesn't work) should be a rare, and done with care thing because of the possible loss of such resources. I mean I dig space battles, but not with a thousand ships.

Drox Operative is just you in the one ship. But it does have the 4x ways to win with other races thing. If you haven't tried it's ridiculously fun

Starships Unlimited, which you can now get for free:

Ships are few, expensive, and VERY valuable, plus can do a lot on their own so you don't have to micro them.

Oh good call, Drox is an ARPG in which you play a lone ship while the AI plays a 4X around you, and you can help or hinder them as you so choose. AMAZING games.

It's ironic that the game called Starships Unlimited is being recommended because of the limited number of starships you need.

So sad.
