Back on the space-front, Everspace 2 just popped with the largest discount I’ve seen them offer (20% off) since they went into Steam Early Access and is currently on-sale for $31.99 until next Saturday.

It's been that sale price about 4 times now. I keep waiting until it's closer to release. Or if I could use a coupon or something

Everspace 2 is still part of Game Pass, right?

Yes, it is on Game Pass.

Veloxi, or anyone else... Space Haven thoughts?

Still early access, but 50% off at GOG this week, lowest price ever.

I f*cking love Space Haven. To me it is like FTL but better.

Yeah Space Haven is f*cking great. Buy it you f*cks and all that.

Rude, but also compelling.

Does Terra Invicta count for this thread? Found out about this game and the demo for it from youtube. Basically a sim about dealing with first alien contact. You control one of the factions that wants to deal with the aliens while competing with the rest. Very xcom meets EU IV. No squad battles but I think there's ship battles. Didn't get to that point. The aliens just kept crashing onto the planet without me able to do much.

Demo is super long played 10 hours total and didn't finish it. Although I did restart once. Manage to make my own space station and a mining base on the moon. For some reason I couldn't get enough supplies into space for a proper attack ship.

Overall had fun with the demo. Although I think the pacing is super slow. On my second try I was running the game on max speed and still only got half way through the time limit. Gonna keep an eye on this one.

Terra Invicta link

I kickstarted Terra Invicta and get a notification about the demo and tried it a bit. There is an awful lot going on there. It almost seems too complicated at first glance.

I also kickstarted this as it’s made by the people who did the excellent ‘Long War’ mods for the XCOM games. I checked out the demo last night - it’s about as complicated as I was expecting- very complicated! - but as you can’t save I didn’t get very far. It does look intriguing though.

Damn good price. At least 60+ hours of value and they're still adding features.

I tend to think of it as Banished in space with a whole lot less people and in a sci fi setting. The fun is in learning all the different systems, balancing resource depletion/acquisition, then optimising as you ramp up.

It's quite heavy on player manual control to get things done though and pathfinding can be a bit wonky.

You can't save? I didn't have that issue. Or maybe that was cause I played the steam demo. It is complex but not as bad as the paradox games. Only managing countries gets messy and you can ignore that. It's the ui that is so messy and complicated that the real pain happens.

So I sold my copy of my favorite MMO ages ago. So glad to finally have it back in my collection (not the original of course, that would be insane).

Loved that stupid game

Someone resurrected it, so you can still play it!

Sounds about right.

Haha yeah. We had an emote to salute with pants whenever we saw another ship in system.

To be fair and clear, someone re-created the old squad in this new version, as none of the player records or anything from the old game survived. It needs more players though, sadly.

Yeah I caught that. Just saying at least one of the dozen or so of us that played has been back in and remade us.

And yeah I looked earlier at players online count on the web and it was just 1...

So I’m planning my next tattoo. It’s from Star Fleet II (your battlecruiser with its four destroyer escorts) so I got a henna version this morning. The final version would be a lot smaller with the symbols heading the other direction, but you get the idea.

Here's the original for comparison:

Maybe I should get the TIE Fighter Secret Order tattoo eh?

NO DO NOT DO THIS. I almost got that tattoo. I got a henna version first and showed it around.

Apparently, it's VERY close to a symbol used by the f*cking German SS in WWII.

So whatever you do. DO NOT GET THAT TATTOO. EVER.

Yikes.

Maybe just the smaller Galactic Empire logo then.

Even then you're permanently putting the symbol of a fascist dictatorship on your body. Nooooot the best look.

I had a lot of time to think about this over the years.

God I know that but I can't place it. What is it?

You must first defeat... THE GUARDIAN!

Randomly started a new game of Rebel Galaxy tonight. Had always wanted to try the pirate route and get those last few achievements. A couple hours disappeared. So fun. I love that silly naval combat.

Looking forward to trying out some different ships this time around. May not complete everything again but at least the first sector and see if I can get pirate allied

Looking for advice on the next 4x game. I have been reading some David Weber, that and many hours of tabletop gaming has left me with a desire for a game that allows, rather requires, ship design and construction. Emphasis on design. Emphasis on fleet level action.

I'm not looking for the level of detail that Aurora gives (great game, just not what I want). Gratuitous Space Battles and Master of Orion both have good system, but not detailed enough for what I'm wanting. Sins of a Solar Empire would be good if I could design the individual ships.

Brain fuzz from the cancer (f*ck cancer) and the treatments I'm undergoing leave me not wanting multiplayer, so great solo play would be good, something I can pick up and put down as needed.

Any suggestions?

If it's ship design you want, you can't get much better than Star Ruler 2.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2...

If you snag it be sure to get the Open Star Ruler launcher and install the modpack.

https://github.com/OpenSRProject

It's an excellent game.

Oh Interstellar Space Genesis also has excellent ship design, I'm told.
