Space Sims/Strategy Games Catch-All

Very cool. Doesn't look like it'll release for a long while though.

I wish all these lone wolf devs would form a pack.

I always figured the weakest part about any indie group/developer tends to be their organizational skill. They are usually not 9 to 5 or have a great structure and guidelines. Hence large groups of them getting together to work for extended periods would probable end in failure. Not too mention a whole host of other reasons (no clear leadership, too many cooks in the kitchen, money supply, lack of cross over in talents).

I wonder what's considered the ideal number for an indie developer? I suppose it would depend on the goal, but I would guess 3-4. Say leader/designer, artist/music, and programmer.

I'm gonna say four. Business/Programming/Art/Sound. And you're right about the other things you said. Why does it always seem like it's the coders (by trade) who think they'll do a game all by themselves?

And a writer. Most of us coders suck at actual writing, and if you want a story, don't have them do it.

{wavy lines doodle lootle loo! doodle lootle loo!} Flashbacks to Gathering of Developers {/wavy lines} 1998, geez. I didn't think it was that old.

Anyone looking at http://www.stardrivegame.com/? It looks pretty interesting.

Huh. Hadn't heard about this game before, but I'm always up for a little 4X

Also, samurai bear. That is my race. Already called it.

I think Star Drive did a Kickstarter already. I think I own it.

Yeah, I didn't grab the Kickstarter but I've been watching and anticipating. I think it's supposed to be on Steam on the 29th as a beta and out in February.

Wrangling people is a pain in the ass. And independents are often doing development in their free time, because there's no publisher money paying their salaries (unless they can get a kickstarter). It's really hard to tell unpaid people what to do! These are my experiences anyway when I was lead on a mod team in the heady days of UT99.

Yea, I think I've looked at it before.

Very nice Q&A. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this one.

Thank you very much!

Hey y'all, my review of Strike Suit Zero is up:

http://www.spacegamejunkie.com/revie...

I hope y'all enjoy it, and thank y'all for visiting if ya do.

Looks like it unlocks tomorrow on Steam.

No price or pre-order options displayed either.

Ah Digital Spy says $19.99 or £14.99 for you British types. :p

It also says "A stunning but frustrating space shooter" so that jives with Veloxi mostly.

Yeah, visually it's stunning, but yeah, it can be challenging.

Hey y'all, another review for y'all (I'm on a staycation to get caught up on blog content and for my general mental health). This one is a video interview of Drox Operative:

Enjoy!

Are you going to review this one Veloxi? I'm so glad you're here dude, so you can try and I don't have to buy

And I'm glad I'm here too, thank you.

Oh my goodness, you're a bona fide internet celebrity now, I assumed you hadn't reviewed it yet because it wasn't unlocked on Steam yet.

When you say "joystick", what exactly were you using? Would a gamepad suffice (although I do have a joystick, it's long in the tooth and I wonder if it still works well, but it does have force feedback, which is awesome).

I have a Saitek X-45 currently, but I think it does support gamepads, yes.

Hey party people, I got some coupon codes for 25% off Strike Suit Zero, so I figured I'd share 'em. Use this code, KS3PXKRJR, on this page to get the discount. I've no idea if it only works once or if it can work multiple times, though. :/

Worked for me! I'm a sucker for a sale.

So APPARENTLY, in today's THQ auction, Volition went to Koch Media for around $22.3 million. Koch Media are the folks who publish the X series through Deep Silver. Since they have an interest and investment in the space game market, part of me is PLEADING that somehow, this leads to a Freespace 3.

But hey, a guy can dream, right?
