Trader Joe's also has a slightly more eclectic beer selection than your standard store. Don't forget about 2 Buck Chuck!

Amen.

My five-month-old now has a passport. The photo was taken when she was 3.5 months old. She can use this passport until she's 5. This completely cracks me up. Every time I look at it I start laughing.

Hah we did ours' passport when he was about 1-2 weeks old, he's now 7 months. Could totally be a different baby, no one would know.

Does the cosmic rule of passport photos hold true for babies too? i.e. worst photo ever that makes them look either retarded or like it's a mugshot?

This feels like a point of revelation during a Law and Order episode. Someone get on that spec-script!

I've been without heat in the office for more than a month now. I really miss it, especially now that the temperature is consistently in the 30s. Still, I just got a pair of these USB handwarmers, and they've made the work day almost tolerable again:

We've got two; the weak one is on, the strong one consistently blows out its circuit.

I'm disappointed that this is referred to as 'obamicon.' Shepard Fairey deserves the credit.

It's superseded by the cosmic rule that halfie babies cannot ever be not especially cute. Unfortunately she didn't take advantage of her one legal opportunity to smile in a passport photo.

I installed my new dishwasher. My father-in-law did the electrical (mainly because I thought it would be more complicated than it was) and I did the rest. Water in, drain out, securing it to the countertop...all me.

In other news. I love not being gored to death:

We had an interesting encounter with a Bull on the ramble last Sunday. We'd heard a loud bellowing sound in the distance for some time but presumed it was a cow or a male deer way in the distance.

After walking on for some time we arrived at a field with a few chestnut coloured cows in it. I noticed that one calf was a bullock. Bullocks can be excitable and dangerous but that one looked calm. We entered the field in the top right corner and the cows and calves retreated to the bottom of the feild. As we walked down the woman next to me said, "There's the noisy bull." I looked into the top left corner and there was an enormous, muscular, chestnut coloured bull facing out of the field and making muted bellowing sounds. "He hasn't spotted us," she noted. We walked a few more paces and I looked over to him. He was still facing out of the field. I checked the fence to our left. It was low, with a combination of hedge, wooden fence and barbed wire. I was sure that, suitably motivated, I could easily get over it. I looked back to the bull again. He had turned around, "He's turned around," I said. "Keep walking," someone nearby said. I looked back again. He was walking out of the corner of the field. "He's walking towards us," I said. The lady next to me happened to be wearing bright red gloves and a red hat. "Keep walking calmly," she said.

I started to seriously consider my options. One was to give the general command 'raise walking sticks!' in the hopes of fending him off. The other was to turn and bodily heave as many fellow walkers over the fence as I could before clambering over myself.

I looked back again. His huge form was trotting down the field. He looked agitated. I noticed that the fence/hedge ahead changed from being low to being a high and probably impenetrable. I could jump out of the field there and then, and possibly be stranded, or carry on and risk not having an escape route if he attacked. We kept walking. In that moment it felt like one of those stupid decisions that you admit to while people are signing the cast on your broken leg.

The bull drew level. His eyes were wide as he looked at us. Something told me he was more scared than angry. We arrived at the bottom of the field and the shelter of some old farm machinery. The bull passed us and stopped close to the cows. He stared at them as if to say, " Gee thanks guys. There's me having a good old bellow and the next thing I know you've all buggered off and I'm surrounded by multicoloured ramblers with sticks!!" We exited the field with a sigh of relief.
