Random thing you love right now that doesn't deserve its own thread

Just finished week 1 at my new job after 5 months of looking. I’m thrilled to be back in the office (YMMV ) and my job feels like someone made it up to appeal to me specifically.

So far, so good.

Went to Ikea to pick up a utility cart to put my art supplies on. They had the one I wanted (Räskog) in three different colors: white, black and a weird brownish-yellow that I think should be named "hospital yellow".

That last color is really, really ugly. So of course it's the one I picked.

And I had fun assembling it.

Visited the Swans again at the local duck pond. Their plumage still heads pleasingly towards white. I fed them some chopped up old cabbage. The parents weren’t impressed but the kids loved it.

History Report
When I Was A Boy, Back Before Earth Got Too Hot To Live On...

Today is my 20 year GWJ account anniversary.
20. Years.

I love you all so much! Thanks to all the people who keep this place going and all the users that make it a nice place to be.

You got me curious, so I checked, and I've been here since 2007. That's right about the time that I worked out with my psychiatrists (plural...) the cocktail of meds that mostly keep my depression and anxiety from being utterly debilitating.

Then I started reading and posting here. One step forward...

We love you both!

15 years coming up next week. Dec 10.

Which was actually the air date of Community, Comparative Religion.

Hmmm. December 30th will be 21.5 years on GWJ for me. And then June 30th, 2025 yes will be 22 years, but first 2 years of that I lived in US, and then 20 years of Legend of Roo-ing it here in Greece. The amazing community here is a huge part of me having the guts to go find the love of my life here in Greece, so cheers you cool people.

I’m totally off social media. I guess my Facebook and Twitter accounts still exist but I haven’t logged into Facebook in a decade and Twitter is such a cesspool now I am done with it. I still have Reddit to look up weird board game questions but the only place I actually post is here. It’s so freeing and thanks for being the last refuge of sanity for me in the digital space.

Technically GWJ is social media!

True it’s just highly curated social media without bluetick sex bots talking to each other ( unless there is a specialised thread I missed)

I just deleted my Reddit account, the only social media I still use is Facebook, but that’s mostly just to stay in the good graces of the clumber spaniel mafia.

GWJ: The only social media platform where the user's average age is greater than Facebook.

I talked about Hundreds of Beavers in one of the movie threads last week but goddam I love this movie so much. I’ve already rewatched it multiple times and have found myself randomly humming the opening song:

Love you too, this is one of my favorite places on the net.

Just checked, January will be 22 years for me.

Glad you loved it but man I had to tap out after 15 minutes. There isn't enough weed in the world to make that movie work for me.

Fair enough. Apparently the first act was filmed separately a year before the rest of it and shown around to raise funds for the full film, so the first 20 minutes or so is fairly slow and feels different the rest of the story. Once Jean joins with the Trapper it really picks up and starts building exponentially.

20 years for me tomorrow. Time flies

Yes it does! Back in September I passed my 20 year mark. It is actually kind of shocking

Tomorrow is my 21st anniversary here.

Next year my tenure here will be old enough to vote.

I have just picked up my first ever pair of glasses (god bless the optician for skirting so diplomatically around the phrase "at your age") You just don't notice how blurry up close things have gotten till you put a pair on, but work is so much better today.

I got mine earlier this year. So true!

I got my first pair of glasses about 3 years ago. I hadn't realized how hard my eyes were working to compensate for my astigmatism until they didn't have to all the time.

I got progressive bifocals a couple of weeks ago. Those I kind of hate. I'm not seasick any more, but I don't like how the ground is blurry or how I have to look through the top of the frame to see clearly at any kind of distance.

On a similar note, the hearing aid functions of my AirPods Pro 2 do work as advertised. It turns out I've inherited my mother's congenital hearing loss and it's just starting to hit me. Now the ear buds that I've liked for a few years now are a valuable tool for dealing with that. I don't think I'll be wearing them constantly, but they'll give me a good frame of reference for knowing how bad my hearing is getting and letting me know when it's time for a set of wear-it-all-day hearing aids.

Wow, missed that I had crossed the 21 year mark of lurking around here. Gotta be careful or I'll actually get tagged one of these days!

My account is now old enough to drink.

My account is old enough to plausibly try and use fake ID to buy drink in the UK, or wait 6 months to do it legally.

This movie feels like the closest thing to a modern version of Loony Tunes. Not just the cartoon physics, but they way the sight gags play out, and just the overall cleverness.

It definitely did take a while for me to get into it, early on I was going back and forth between wanting to turn it off and wanting to give it a little more time. It definitely accelerates and just gets more freakin' WEIRD and hilarious as it goes along, in the end I loved it.
