Random thing you love right now that doesn't deserve its own thread

Aspen and right are good starters. But I'll also add doubt to the list.

I like OCEAN as a first guess because it tests three vowels right off the bat.

Took all my inside holiday decorations down last night. It is nice to feel like I have my house back from the grips of Stanta.

Made it to Epiphany, you did good.

Just busy with work so doing ours tomorrow

I like TASER as a starting word.

I was going to do the outside today but it is raining.

I like STARE, because E is a super common last letter in 5 letter words, and S is the most common starting letter of all words.

This is one of the toughest ones that I totally pulled out of my ass:

So since Christmas 2020, I've been making stollen, a German bread that's kind of like a cross between a Danish and fruitcake.

This year I made eight of them, and shipped a bunch to family.
I received the highest praise possible from my mom: "A lot of times, stollen can get sort of dry, but yours was perfect. It was like when grandma [who passed away last year from covid] made it, she would put cherries in it too."

I gave some to our neighbors, too; the wife is currently fighting cancer and sometimes we make them treats since she loved to bake and doesn't have much energy for it at the moment. She said, "Eatin’ a piece of stollen from Germany…yours was so much better! We really nursed that thing!"

Dang it feels good!

Did you need my address again? I haven't received my batch
I wonder if the delivery guy swiped it?

It must have been stollen

Good thing it had cherry so they can be caught red handed!

Yum

My wife just started watching Avatar: The Last Airbender without my encouragement. Woohoo!

Dang it feels good to make a stollen
A real stollen baker gets the mix right
A real stollen baker adds cherries if he wants to
'Cause real stollen bakers flavors don't fight
And bakers always know by feel
Kneading the dough and letting it rise
But real stollen bakers don't brag much
Cause real stollen bakers get high fives
It's a good stollen in the mind of family members
Better than from Germany
It isn't dry, it's perfect
Cause real stollen bakers need sleep
And all I gotta say to you
Wannabe, gonnabe, kitchen tyro, pastry making bakers
Is when it's stollen time what the heck you gonna do
Dang it feels good to make a stollen

Trader Joe's It's Sedimentary My Dear Cookie! Cookie Mix. This stuff is so good. I just wish it wasn't a seasonal item or that I could find a copy cat recipe (all I can find is a gluten free one).

Also the post above this one is amazing.

I just discovered that the walking/biking trail that goes along the Ottawa river in Summer becomes a cross-country skiing trail during Winter.

Glad I did not sell my skis a few years ago like I was planning to do.

Also: Wordle in 3 tries for a second day in a row. No way I can maintain that streak.

Wife just got a new job at significantly above her asking price. Woohoo!

Nice, nice, nice!
My wife has a final round on Monday for a new job

Stunning film.

Two other good big-wall climbing docs are Free Solo and The Dawn Wall, both trad rock climbing on El Capitan. If you're unfamiliar with the subject, I suggest the Dawn Wall first because their segment explaining the process (e.g., what a "pitch" is) is the best of them IMHO.

Great thanks. I don’t do any climbing myself but my uncle was a big climber, including climbing in the Alps and potholing (spelunking) and a cousin ice climbs when it’s wide spread enough and hard enough to be safe. I clearly have something in me that’s fascinated by it because I devour climbing films.

14 Peaks: Nothing is Impossible is a superb film. I think it’s on Netflix.

I do sport climbing, strictly indoors because I'm an anxious mess. The big wall stuff is fascinating but I don't think you're ever going to see me up there! But indoor is a lot of fun, and it's a supportive community.

14 Peaks is next on our watchlist!

The Dawn Wall is very good. My hands actually started sweating watching it. Free Solo was interesting too but it seems like the camera crew missed the ascent because it happens so quickly and rarely changes angles.

Also interesting to note that The Alpinist and The Dawn Wall share directors, as does Free Solo and The Rescue, the very good recent film on Disney+ about the Thai cave rescue.

Yes, The Rescue is also phenomenal/edge of your seat scary but for different reasons.

There is an Alpine rescue documentary series that is good, but the name escapes me. I think it's on the Matterhorn.

I'll add another plug for The Rescue. Thrilling and terrifying.

Learned yesterday that two Belgian climbers are currently attempting the Dawn Wall. It's only been climbed twice before, by Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson (see the documentary), and by Adam Ondra.

The views are stunning.

That feeling of transferring a good chunk of cash to my retirement savings account and my tax fee savings account...
