Random thing you love right now that doesn't deserve its own thread

With the Current Situation, I've been listening to Sigur Rós a lot lately, as their music always has a calming effect on me. It's hard to believe that Takk… was produced fifteen years ago. Remember when it was impossible to escape Hoppípolla? It was everywhere. Commercials, movies, sporting events...

They have a history of producing videos with visuals that ... well, I guess the best way to describe them is that the videos have the same sensibilities as the music. Here's one of my favorites, from Takk… Glósóli ("Glowing sun," literally "glowing sole." Yes, it's an Icelandic pun.)

1080p Vimeo Link, because for some reason the YouTube video is 480p with crap audio

fifteen years... those kids have all grown up and some may have children of their own...

They're my favorite! Got all the vinyl and see them every time they come through town! Takk was one of the last ones I got. Try and track down that DVD/show where they have live performances all around Iceland. It's so good. Also, INNI is a perfect collection of live performances. Sigur Ros live is where it's at.

Jonsi's solo album is also great.

Vimeo is only giving me up to 360p

That's weird, Vimeo even let me download 1080p.

Maybe they are just opposed to your ideology.

May the 4th be with you. In celebration, my kids and I watched a ton of Star Wars over the weekend and I broke out Empire at War on my laptop and played through a few missions. This has brought me so much joy over the weekend.

I'm also hosting all of my Zoom meetings for work today from the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon. Here's a link to some official Star Wars backgrounds.

Lately, sprinkling cocoa powder on apple slices instead of cinnamon has been a fun novelty.

I'm going to take vacation next week. It's not like I'm going to travel or go anywhere, it's just that I won't have to work next week. I am looking forward to that so very, very much. I am very burned out by work, and I can't wait for that vacation.

Yeah I've been taking at least 1 day off every 3 week sprint to just be at home for a day.

Although I've had allergy shots a couple of those days, so not completely relaxed. But better than trying to fit in a full work day on top of that.

Thinking the Friday before memorial day for a long weekend would be good, even if we can't go to the beach.

Do something vacation-ish while enjoying your free time at home. Have a lemonade on the patio at that time of day when it’s not too warm. Bring a book with you to the patio. Take a nap in the shade in a lawn chair or on a blanket.

Go spearfishing in a puddle. Kayak down your hallway. Practice scenic macrophotography. Order dinner from a five star restaurant and have it delivered by an old man in golf shorts. Visit a museum.

Have a drink (or 3) at noon.

Not everybody drinks alcohol though. Some might prefer a tall cool glass of ice tea. Or mix the ice tea with lemonade. That’s called a Robert Plant. It’s named after the legendary rock vocalist.

I get to drive tractor-trailer at work all this week. I freeking love this job!

A Robert Plant? I've always known Iced Tea + Lemonade as an Arnold Palmer.

I always thought lemonade ice cubes and iced tea was a Payne Stewart..
.. I'll let myself out.

That's gotta be a regional thing, Rawk, because I've seen it all over the country in restaurants as an Arnold Palmer... He was famous for it even 50 years ago.

Yeah, Lemonade + Iced Tea = Arnold Palmer.
Lemonade + Iced Tea + Vodka = John Daly.

Both of these guys were famous golfers, but John Daly used to literally drink from his flask while playing in the PGA. There's a famous clip out there from ABC Wide World of Sports where Al Michaels sees him take a hit off his flask before stepping up to the tee and power-driving the ball straight up the fairway like 350 yards. Al couldn't believe his eyes and talked about it on air.

Oh. You’re right. What was I thinking. A Robert Plant is where you make an Arnold Palmer and take a divot of grass from a golf course and float it in the glass. But have you ever tased a Robert Smith? Generally speaking, I wouldn’t recommend this.

To be honest, he sort of looks like he's already been tased...

Yeah. From what I understand that’s how he gets his hair to do that.

He's such a sweetheart, though, I can't in good conscience pick on him.

No. That was in jest. That guy (Robert Smith) is actually one of my musical heroes. His early songs were far ahead of their time. His biggest hits are absolute masterpieces of pop music. His recording catalogue is ridiculously deep. He was always pushing the art of his music into new and innovative places. I believe that he’s a musical genius. Just go listen to his stuff. It’s incredible.

I'm just worried if Barbara Streisand got the last Triangle.

This is pretty cool.

I remember watching a TED talk by Jane McGonigal some years ago. She’s a pretty amazing human. She did a Reddit AMA today and mentioned her project SuperBetter, which has been around for some time, but this is the first I’ve heard of it. It uses gameplay theory to help people overcome personal obstacles. I think it might be especially useful during our Current Situation. Check it out.

I had a pipe burst in my backyard last night. My oldest kid literally tripped/fell and landed on a chunk of PVC that was feeding the sprinklers and BAM! Water everywhere. The valve above the break was frozen and would not work to stop the tremendous flow of water now spewing rapidly all over my backyard. There is no available valve anywhere along the line that would let me stem the flooding. The only thing to be done, was turn the water off at the main line cutting all water to the house. That main line valve next to my water meter coming into the house is some kind of crazy locking valve thing that no tool I own could turn. So, I called the emergency water line, and they had to send a guy from three cities over, who finally arrived an hour later to turn off my water.

Why is this crazy story in the Love thread? Because I fixed it myself!!

My workday is slammed busy today, starting at 7:30am and with meetings booked back to back all day until 6pm. So I woke my ass up at 6am, drove to my local home depot, and then bought a replacement valve and the specialized tool needed to turn the water back on at the main line valve. I got back to the house at 7:10am, with just 20 minutes to get the repair done. The old valve was stuck and wouldn't budge. I pushed, I pulled, I grabbed a humongous pipe wrench. Finally with an outburst of profanity that would make even the most hard-boiled sailor blush, I yanked with all my might and the old valve finally turned. I got the old valve removed from the pipe, applied some new Teflon tape, and quickly screwed on the new valve. Time check: 7:25am. 5 minutes to spare until my meeting starts, and with a quick turn of my new valve tool, water was restored to my house, and there were no further leaks. I ROCK!

Today is my last day of work before my vacation, and it is going to be a good day.

Don't ask what a Pete Townshend is.

I asked the internet, and instantly regretted it. I should have taken your advice.

I have a flagon of Arnold Palmer in the fridge. I like it. How would you make an Amanda Palmer? And if you did would would it come with a Neil Gaiman? My innuendo brain is overloading!

Not as of a couple of days ago, nope

A Laura Palmer is damn fine coffee with embalming fluid.

There’s a fish in the percolator.

As long as it isn't a Sherry Palmer.
