Random thing you love right now that doesn't deserve its own thread

Hushpuppies sans corn.
Done and done. Don't bring that weak sauce when it comes to southern food.

Eh, all the traditional southern restaurants I've been to in downtown Montgomery do it with corn. Not weaksauce at all, considering that they're fried ground cornmeal to begin with.

I say the claim was weak sauce. I personally have liked some with and some without corn.

We have a Skippers here in Boise, Idaho.
Solved.

Today is my 1 year anniversary of being a GWJer. woo!

I'm so sorry.

And Saturday you get to celebrate with a S&T! Maybe we should treat it like an elementary school birthday and you should bake us all cookies or cupcakes!

Name em. I'd bet most of those are chains.

Dixie Bell's in Apex.

Speaking of good work by the BBC, the new series of Last Man Standing. I freaking love this show.

Though the Chicagoan reminds me why I hate Cubs fans.

I don't even want to know now. Stupid Cubs fans ruin everything!

Best goddamn thing ever.

I always eat them first.

Then the little breadsticks. I always end up with a bag of the actual chex pieces that I don't want to eat.

They don't ever pack those into the sweet flavors, which confuses and disappoints me.

Steam's graphical user interface. It doesn't quite trump NXE's ease of use and functionality, but it looks gorgeous and I love seeing it open on my desktop.

It's the future of gaming!

I used to like those best, but I've found myself more a fan of the actual Chex lately.

I pointed out earlier in the thread that you can buy entire bags of rye chips from Gardetto's:

BBQ here means slow cooking with indirect heat & smoke, at about 225 F for 1.5 hours per pound of meat. The last pork shoulder I smoked took almost 15 hours. And it was goram delicious.

Mmmm.... that sounds amazing. I don't know why we don't have that here, but I think it's a major flaw in our cooking. I can see why the BBQ sauce discussion earlier got so heated. :-D

Supposedly BBQ in the U.S. is an outgrowth of slavery--Africans coming from the West Indies to colonial S. Carolina brought with them the tradition of slow roasting pigs (barbacoa). In the south you do the same thing with otherwise all-but-inedible cuts of meat, like beef brisket. I bought a large smoker after moving to Kansas City, because even though there's some pretty good BBQ here, it's impossible to find decent brisket.

I've got to stop reading this thread while hungry! What's weird is that I remembered that there are a few places here that do what they call BBQ ribs, but I think they're still cooked under an electric grill.

Also! Random thing I love: Ribs from Hurricane's at Bondi Beach. A bit overpriced, but oh-so-good. Probably paying mostly for the location.

A good friend just sent me this, made my evening ....yes that's me

25 cent tacos and and 50 cent taps of Premium. One of the few things I love about still living in a college town.

Freebirds now has $4 pitchers on weekdays. SCHWING!

Chosen because it's the most recent, but they're cornbread. Corn is a necessary part of the hushpuppy, kernels present or not.

I like those cheap Hostess Apple Pies in the Green Packaging.

Your link is (oh so sadly) broken.

I would like to extend this to The Hostess Outlet Store, where you can buy such diabetes inducing treats, along with many others, very inexpensively.

I don't think they have Freebirds outside of TX and OK.

Mini-corndogs.

That is all.

That doesn't mean you can't respect $4 pitchers. And they are rapidly expanding. 5 new stores last year alone.

Well, good then. Some of that Chipotle love on this thread will disappear when Freebirds hits other states.

Err? Not sure what you're trying to say here. Can you clarify?

I have some fond (if hazy) memories of $5 buckets.

You can't make cornbread without cornmeal, and you can't make cornmeal without corn. So, you can't fry cornbread without corn. And since you can't fry cornbread without corn, you can't make hushpuppies without corn. Thus, Chewbacca is a wookie.
