Random thing you love right now that doesn't deserve its own thread

Fire Pro Wrestling World. Holy hell this game. I missed out on Fire Pro when it hit the US back in the early 2000s, and I'm really sad that I did because this is exactly what I want out of a wrestling game. Add in the fact the community have already been customizing tons of classic wrestlers and I'm in wrestling heaven. Such a good game!

This! (Although my brother DID work retail for a considerable while, and we got all of the horror stories, so that probably helped a lot too!)

I hate to break it to you all, but people don't come out of assholes.

Reproductive education in this country is terrible.

I suspect I could turn the love thread into the loathe thread, for a little while at least, if I posted Tenacious D's "Butt Baby" video.

Or 'Bad Milo'... Wait, that would still be a 'love'.

Bosch, and all the actors from The Wire that are in it.

Black Sails. I never got around to watching it, but started it recently. If the qualify remains anywhere close to the first five episodes, I'm really going to enjoy binging the next couple of seasons!

My brother has been trying to get me to watch it. He loves the ending, apparently.

Yup!

My elite controller was messing up and malfunctioning. I was pretty bummed because it is a great controller and expensive (even with the fact Jayhawker sold me his refurb one cheap). A buddy told me to see if i could get MS to service it. Sent it in to them and they sent me a new one, free. Yay!

I'm working through season 4 right now. It's such a good show. A bit dramatic for pirates at times, but the production is top notch. Also the opening credits are gorgeous.

Oh god it gets quite a bit better actually.

bug zappers.

I left my bedroom window open a tad too long and just looked up at the ceiling, suddenly realising it was literally crawling with annoying tiny little flies (thunder flies? or something?) D:

Anyhoo, I pulled the bug zapper from the kitchen and it's sparking away merrily to itself quite effectively.
I dread to think how long it would have taken to take care of the buggers if I didn't have one of them available :O

Bzzt Bzzt.

Totally agree! I've been planning to dig around when I get some spare time to see if there's any sort of documentary regarding how that was made. The fidelity of the facial expressions and the use of faux-marble is a remarkable feat of artistry.

SHMUPS, Maaan, I love SHMUPS.

Forlorn Hope gifted me a copy of Super Galaxy Squadron EX in the key exchange thread, so I fired up my old arcade stick and gave it a spin. I don't know why, but I just love that style of game. Simple idea, clear goals, but really exciting and tight execution. They get better with knowledge and can be surprisingly deep.

Well, that and I like the feeling of arcade sticks. That clickety-clack of buttons is just really satisfying.

I wonder, is there much of a community for those games on these forums?

My musical taste recently has tracked in the direction of traditional Japanese instruments mixed with rock/metal arrangements, which is perhaps a logical progression of the delightful classical instrument/rock mix that we've enjoyed over the last couple of decades in the West. The video linked below is a wonderful example of what I'm listening to right now: it has a guy wailing on a shakuhachi flute, the dude behind him thrashing a bass guitar, and a couple of gorgeous kimono-clad women on vocals and lead guitar. Best part? The "story" part has guys fighting with various classical weapons, including kusarigama. It's like watching real-life Nioh with an amazing sound-track. Good stuff!

I should talk to you. I love rock music mixed with traditional Japanese instruments, but really know of very little of it outside of Wagakki Band.

Not exactly what you are looking for, but completely amazing nonetheless if you haven't seen it:

Seeing Kiki's Delivery Service in a real movie theater tomorrow. Part of Ghibli Fest 2017. This is one of my favorite Ghibli films.

Don't spoil it for me! I will see it Monday!

I just came across Intro-Inspection by osymyso - 15 minutes of musical introductions mixed together. I'm smiling so much.

Got to go see Dunkirk 70mm at Hollywood Theater with my dad and treated him to a little bit of sushi (his first time eating sushi!) at my favorite place in Portland (Zilla Sake). It was a great afternoon.

So you're seeing it with OG Japanese dialogue and English subtitles. I have to admit, I would love to see it that way, but I'm having hernia surgery on Monday.

I'm seeing it in Aliso Viejo, CA. Just curious, in what city will you be seeing it?

Wow! You really get around, Tuff. Movie in Hollywood, sushi in Portland. All in the same day? That's amazing.

Hollywood Theater in Portland is the best.

I have returned from the wilderness! I took my family camping for the last 4 nights, and it was amazing! Okay, in honesty, it was painfully hot, very frustrating at times, and a lot of craziness, but yay for getting away!

We're just waiting a word that flooding has subsided, and we're heading for a three night hike. Also also hoping it'll get a bit warmer as days are currently around 10C and at night it can drop to zeroish. This place is pretty strict as it's a restricted reservation area, you take out everything you bring in and camping only allowed on designated areas. As the terrain is pretty rough and daily hikes are long (15-20km) the kids are staying with the grandparents.

Can't wait!

Can't say too much now, but expect a long post in the "Self indulgent parent thread" in the upcoming months. With pictures...lots and lots of pictures.

And thank you to all of you who have been well-wishing, thinking and praying for my family--something apparently worked.

We're considering going to Tokyo for the Olympics in 2020 and we've been watching a show on NHK called "Tokyo Eye 2020" that's half "here's cool stuff to do as tourists" and half "here's how we're preparing for the Olympics."

They had a recent episode on music and they talked about a bar near Koenji station where folks who like to do things with traditional instruments hang out and jam.

Go to about 6:00 for the segment:

(Edit: oops, pasted the wrong link to the bar the first time around...)
