Supernatural - Salt and Burn All

Pages

SOMEONE had to do it, makes sense to take the conversation out of the Netflix thread, especially since season 8 just started last night. What did y'all think of the premiere? I LOVED it but the girlfriend isn't buying it yet.

Bah.. still have three episodes of S. 7 to watch, and then I can join in

Just finished Season 7 myself. I've enjoyed the crap out of Supernatural, but think it really peaked in S5.

Alrighty then, let's make this about ALL Supernatural then! And yeah, I agree about season 5, holy crap that was amazing. That was still under the show's creator though, and was meant to be his last chapter, so it makes sense. I still get misty when I hear the music they used in the final episode, with Chuck's voiceover about the Impala and such. *sniff*

I'm starting on season 7 now. The first two episodes were okay. At this point they seem to have their formula down. You pretty much know in Supernatural that at any given moment, one of the two brothers is going to be suffering from angst.

I'll also give the show credit for giving unknown actors some meaty recurring roles to play with during the seasons. The producers have never felt the need to add big name guest stars to play Lucifer or Crowley or Death.

Heh, bigger stars also cost more.

So season 8 spoilers...

Spoiler:

Anyone else speculate that Dean and the vampire guy (whatever his name was, can't recall at the moment) killed/blood drained Castiel as a means of opening the portal back to earth?

Spoiler:

Great call, but Cas is never really gone, so we'll see. I also think he doesn't wanna admit to Sam that he LIKED being in purgatory because it was so "pure". No moral ambiguity, no civilians to avoid, just all out combat. We know how he liked torturing people in hell too. ;)

I'm only 143 episodes behind yall!

If you're a Hitchcock fan, Netflix just added Dial M for Murder to Watch Instantly.

Oh, wait. Wrong thread. I got confused there for a second.

This image never gets old.

So, you guys don't like Cas? I really like Cas.

Cas is the best.

Cas, get out of my ass.

Who doesn't like Cas? I love Cas. My girlfriend, humorously enough, isn't a Sam girl, Dean girl or a Cas girl...she's a Jimmy girl.

I'm a haircut away from having my Cas cosplay ready for NYCC

Finally finished catching up through the Season 8 premiere.

Spoiler:

Lots of questions:
1) What happened to Cas
2) What did Dean and Beni do to get out, that bonded them like that
3) Did Sam get religion, along with the girl and the dog?
4) What's Crowley's goal? Hellgates?
5) What's up with the vampire Alpha? His 'see you next season' in S. 7, Ep. 22 was ominous

Spoiler:

1 and 2. Someone brought up the VERY likely possibility that Dean needed to kill Cas to open the gate back to our world. I LOVE that idea.
3. Religion? What?
4. To keel the hellgates as open as possible I'd guess.
5. I'm sure we'll see him again.

Spoiler:

2. I'd be more inclined to think he's dating a demon since he didn't look too thrilled at the idea of locking them up forever.

Yeah, I don't want to say it's jumped the shark because they are still doing interesting stuff, but it's definitely lost some cohesion.

And I love Cas.

Test shot of my Cas cosplay - I'm getting a haircut tomorrow, so don't factor that into it:

NICE!

Just watched the S8 opener and yeah, this one looks like a doozy. Glad to see that they are back to fighting demons again. Regarding Deans stay in

Spoiler:

purgatory, I think it's a very likely hypothesis stated above. When Dean cut his arm to let the other soul through, the red glow was very reminiscent to when Cas healed Sam in the mental institution in S7. Wouldn't surprise me if they had to sacrifice Cas to get out.

So Im coming late to the game and am still working my way through season 3. My dilemma is that while most of the episodes are great, there are a few that fall flat. But I'm scared not to finish watching an episode that doesn't seem promising because maybe there will be a tidbit I really should know down the line. So I guess I'm wondering is how much is Supernatural like X Files where there are common themes but you can skip around, vs Lost where you've got to watch past episodes in order.

I would go episode by episode, frankly. Quite often they stop on a cliff hanger which leads up to the next big story episode and if you skip an ep. you might wonder where they came from.

Yeah, the flatter episodes are often set up for something else. The serialisation isn't as strong as Lost, but I think you gain more from watching all the episodes.

+1 Yeah, gotta watch 'em all.

Also, the latest ep was awesome.

I think you'll be ok skipping any you're not enjoying. They have a one minute "what you may have missed" montage at the start of each show that should catch you up on any important info.

Just watched Episode 2 last night and I really like this new season, I have to say. The flash backs to Deans stay in

Spoiler:

purgatory are really well made. There was a quick flash to Cas being left behind. I wonder if the Leviathans caught up with them instead of them sacrificing Cas to get out.

Spoiler:

Yeah, I was wondering that as well. Maybe Dean has to make a deal with the Leviathans to sacrifice Cas in order to get out. Also, did y'all see Dean's SMILE as he was interrogating that vampire for Cas' whereabouts? I'm telling you, he really liked it in Purgatory, and that's gonna be an increasing problem.

Someone put Reverend Horton Heat in my Supernatural!
