For me, getting a lance usually marked the end of the "struggling to survive" phase and the beginning of my rise to power.
...not least because lances and bows were the only weapons I ever got any good at using from horseback.
Same here. Although I did eventually get better with other weapons from horseback because of all the tournaments I fought in.
Get good at using swords from horseback. They're way more efficient.

Lances were best, at least in Vanilla M&B (they weren't nearly as good in Warband, probably because they'd have ruined multiplayer balance).
Yes, I was very disappointed when I played Warband. At least my shrewd arrow-to-the-face strategy still worked.

I liked lances for fun but I always felt swords where better on horseback. Two handers especially. Nothing like slashing on opposite sides on one charge destroying multiple foes. Great fun.
I loved a morning star from horseback. The thought of crushing skulls with that thing always made me feel a bit squeamish though.

Oh no doubt. I suspect that one of the reasons that I am spectacularly bad at games is that I will always choose the fun option over the effective alternative.
Never was great with swords when on horseback, I liked the big axes.
*sigh*
BRB, gotta go play some M&B
Pretty much.
Yeah...I started up playing again this weekend! I *always* go back to Prophecy of Pendor - I know the people and the lands so well by now, that its like coming home everytime I fire it up.
I hope the modding scene continues over to Bannerlord with just as many high-quality mods as Warband has.
I started PoP but kept getting curbstomped by random merc companies.

Start in Ravenstern area - stick around near that and the green area, and kill mountain troops and robbers either alone or with a few soldiers. After a level or three, do a few quests for the Ravenstern lords, until you get the mercenary gig, where they hire you as mercenary band. That will pay for your merry band of men, while you make some money, and purchase land in different cities.
Be sure to talk to the slavetraders about rumours. They will often tell you about a treasure in a city. One even has a treasure in it from the beginning, where you can get a Qualis gem.
The big thing here is to avoid those bands of knights you talk about. Run away when they come, and hide in a city, and come out again once they are gone. The start IS tough, but the game is more than worth it - There are SO many interesting things going on. Mystmountain armies, Elven armies, sacking of major cities (A great opportunity to take city yourself, since the garrison is all but gone then), hidden treasures, knightshoods you can join, knighthoods you can create yourself and of course, all the usual awesome stuff!
PoP is WELL worth it.
Holy hell that looks phenomenal. I'm surprised at how smooth everything in that presentation was. I was expecting huge load times and weird hitching. Maybe this is closer than it looks?
What the sh*t?! That's amazing!
I think its against the law to update this thread, until there is a release date!
Great interview on RPS:

Siege gameplay!
Still no release date?
Still no release date?
They don't even have that youtube clip up on there site and I couldn't find much else. So maybe RPS will have some coverage on it? They follow M&B pretty closely.
EDIT: I was right but they just post that video and say there is no release date.

Booo! Just release already!

Video from Gamescon:
That watercolor style color pallet is great.
Game of the forever confirmed...again.
I just wish I could say this game's name out loud without it coming out as Mountain Blade.
Man that does look fantastic. Still surprised they can keep working on it for so long.
Looks like it will be coming out on console as well:

Looks like they make the official console announcement on the 16th, still no release date, they parced that really poorly in the press release there.
From what I can tell Warband will be releasing on console soon, but I don't see anything about M&B2 getting a console release (though it stands to reason...).
Whoops, looks like you are right.
It's happening?!!!!

System requirements seem low except for the 40 gigs of space. Those high quality assets.
